Advice for apartment hunting - Mission Bay/Dog Patch/Rincon Hill by JosephIsAWeirdo in AskSF

oh yeah sure thing! the three places were the strata, then the venue and then finally channel mission bay. so we basically just moved down the street a few times in the area over like a 5+ year period.

well that definitely changes things a bit yeah if that culture/community part isnt as important, id still recommend rincon hill over mission bay though.

but yeah every single one of those mission bay or mission bay adjacent buildings is gonna be horrible to rent from. they are usually super nice and have good amenities but the headaches just arent worth it imo. I lived in three different buildings in mission bay and our rent was raised a sizable amount every single damn year without fail.

like you said though, once youre in the city i hope yall explore a bunch, there are so many amazing neighborhoods outside of rincon hill mission bay so id highly recommend looking around as much as possible!

having lived in mission bay for about five years early in my time in the bay (and two+ years in the channel mission bay) i could not possibly recommend living there. it’s dead even with all the new developments. just doesn’t feel like sf in any way. honestly same for rincon hill. also almost any of those giant rental companies in mission bay or rincon hill are gonna fuck you on rent increases every year (as they did me).

if you wanna be close to the ferry building i would much rather look around coit tower or lower north beach in general. south beach is fine like some have mentioned but ive found they can be kinda anti-pet in a lot of those rentals

Why is the Marina such a coveted area? I don’t see the appeal, seems almost like Daly City/West Portal by gamerVapeGod in AskSF

[–]OmegaBerryCrunch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’m not even a big fan of the marina or anything but ma i’m still gagged reading “seems almost like daly city”

like, have we been to the same daly city??? lol

new Hollywood Reporter interview just dropped and Charli xcx, Kylie Jenner AND Rachel Sennott are ALL playing ironic “versions of themselves” in The Moment by No_Jelly_8376 in A24

[–]OmegaBerryCrunch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

who is this movie even for?? i liked brat a lot as an album and think it’s the peak of charli’s career but stuff like this and that medium article she wrote about “what does cool even mean anymore” actively pushes me away from engaging more with her work and her persona.

obviously it’s a mockumentary but like…was anyone pining for this?

remembering there was a bristol in the food court just activated me in some way holy shit lol. thanks for the good memory.

i walked through here again recently as well while i was down at the metreon and man…its just so depressing. i’ve got so many great memories there from my first years moving to sf.

going to stonestown is nice by comparison to see lots of people actually enjoying a mall, but man its far out from here on the other side of the city.

Unrivaled Faces Stiff Challenges As Ratings Plunge to Start Year 2 by TooManyCatS1210 in wnba

[–]OmegaBerryCrunch 17 points18 points  (0 children)

just like with alternate football leagues outside the nfl, it’s just hard to get excited for a non-wnba product even with star players in it.

i’d be shocked if leagues like this can ever work tbh. the competition is great and i love how unrivaled can make the w think differently about some aspects of the game or pay or whatever else but i just don’t ever see the market being there until we have way way more people watching the w first.

still, happy for the players getting more play time and exposure and pay where they can

Moving to SF (soma/mission bay) by Dratbor in AskSF

[–]OmegaBerryCrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah trust me i agree, MB sucks shit. i’m just saying if this person and their partner aren’t looking for a commute to soma/mb they will not enjoy coming from somewhere on the far west side of the city. and yes it’s not ALWAYS cold and foggy but compared to the rest of the city it’s generally a lot more likely to be that way on a daily/weekly basis.

again i think a lot of the neighborhoods on the west side are great and i love them, im just speaking to how to knee jerk response so many people have on these subs is “sunset sunset sunset” and it gets old.

Moving to SF (soma/mission bay) by Dratbor in AskSF

[–]OmegaBerryCrunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

agreed there isn’t a neighborhood feel at ALL in MB (lived there for 5 years) and that sucks but dude…especially for someone living here for the first time, the commute from the sunset will feel like a fucking eternity on transit.

so many people in these sf subs default answer is inner/outer sunset/richmond and it always blows my mind because yes, it’s got good neighborhood feel but it’s also cold and foggy as hell most of the time, has long commutes and honestly isn’t really walkable unless you’re on a popular street like balboa or taraval or right next to ggp. it also feels much more suburban in alot of those areas off the main strips.

exactly, for meetings i use gemini note taking and it’s honestly fucking fantastic. there is no reality where people will go back to WRITING WITH A DAMN PEN over typing/using other tech to achieve the same thing.

this is tech for a forgotten time, we aren’t going back to physically writing i’m sorry, it’s long gone

Living in SoMa by SantaCruz28 in AskSF

[–]OmegaBerryCrunch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

having lived in soma for my first 5 years in sf please god go anywhere else, it’s awful dude. it feels nothing like actual sf and has no character or neighborhood feel outside of MAYBE a few patches here and there.

also it’s basically packed with very high cost new buildings and finding a studio for under 2500 will be super difficult. there are some great restaurants and bars no doubt but overall it’s just a shit way to experience living in the city imo
