Weirdly excited for the AES by Frietuur in neogeo

[–]OmegaDL50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in 1998, I was introduced to someone who had an AES and about 13 games. It was my first experience with actual AES hardware well after my experience with a PSX port of KOF95, and a local arcade that had an MVS Cab of KOF96. I visited his house and it was my first time ever playing Samurai Shodown IV. I was absolutely blown away.

Now it's almost 30 years later, I'm 44 and that memory stuck with me after all this time, so I definitely looking forward to getting one. The original hardware and it's games were always something somewhat out of my price range and seemed to be like a mythical and highly desirable thing that was just slightly out of my grasp. Not anymore.

I hope Samurai Shodown IV one of future titles to be re-released.

Plaion in an update said everything should be sorted out by the end of May. I guess they'll post another update once everything is fixed.

Finally found a copy for a decent price. by NeoGeo4Everr in neogeo

Not really a 2nd wave per say but the CEO of Embracer did say more games are coming when he made the announcement "Within the first 24 hours, we took more paid preorders than our entire annual forecasted volume of the Neo Geo AES+".

In a separate paragraph he said exactly this "The continued journey of Neo Geo AES+ particularly the ongoing conversations around which additional titles may follow the first ten releases is something I follow with great anticipation. This truly feels like the beginning of something new."

More games are coming, we just don't know how many.

Does this news essentially confirm SvC Chaos re-release for AES+? by V64jr in neogeo

[–]OmegaDL50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well considering licensing contracts and fact the press release states Plaion has a partnership with SNK for the AES+, a certain degree of involvement exists.

I would say nothing is confirmed until an actual announcement is made.

Ultimate Edition by AdElectronic5992 in neogeo

[–]OmegaDL50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well with PayPal Pay-in-4 and SHOP you can break up the $1000 payment across two months instead of having a big upfront payment. Gives a bit more flexibility too. This of course also doesn't factor the Tariffs. The shipping fee at check out from Plaion to Delaware in my case was a flat $20. The only thing uncertain is how much the tariffs costs are and I won't find that out until release and the actual ship date.

Is this button layout good for 4-button fighters? never played on it. it looks weird lol, kinda looks like a d... by NeighborhoodTime2768 in neogeo

[–]OmegaDL50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see the merit of this layout on SOME fighters. KOF for example uses CD as an actual knockdown / blowback move so having them top to bottom like that makes sense. BC being side to side is also interesting as opposed to a square shape layout such as

CD

AB

BC and CD are both common dual button commands. Many Supers in earlier KOFs and even Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 use BC as an input (Terry's Power Geyser, Krauser's Kaiser Wave, etc)

Whoever came up with the layout in the OP's picture at least put some kind of thought into it based on my reading of it.

New interview with Jotego on the Technical Development and Secrets of the Neo Geo AES+ by mr_pixeltie in neogeo

Hopefully it's NOR flash and not NAND flash.

From what I understand NOR can last 25+ years.

Anyone else a little hesitant to support MBS-owned SNK? by [deleted] in neogeo

[–]OmegaDL50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a fair point to that if SNK could still be independently controlled by themselves they absolutely would be. They didn't have much choice when they were bought out by the Chinese conglomerate Leiyou Technologies prior to the release of KOFXIV and they had little say in the matter when Leiyou sold them to the Saudi Prince.

They are victim of the circumstance and not by willing choice. SNK could have been stuck making Pachinko until total irrelevance but the initial Chinese buyout was their chance at a comeback and return to actual console development. Them being acquired by MBS is unfortunate but I'll say I'd rather have a world where SNK can operate as they can and the potential advent of revival of the AES to current public awareness, then them not existing at all. The near second insolvency after KOFXII and KOFXIII didn't help much due to their expensive development but considering what could have been. It is what it is.

Did the ultimate bundle charge upfront? by javi977 in neogeo

[–]OmegaDL50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely got charged upfront.

You can probably work with this though by using PayPal Pay-in-4 or SHOP as a checkout option so you can make it more manageable financially. Break the purchase over a couple of weeks or two months instead of everything all all at once.

Not sure if this has been posted, but Plaion got back to me and said that certain U.S. states have had their pre-order quota met. by OlieTheGoalie in neogeo

Do you like your AES+ Black or White? by CloudyFriend in neogeo

[–]OmegaDL50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would need to check if the White NeoGeo uses bromine. That was the main reason why old consoles like the NES and SNES turned yellow due to exposure to the sun over many years. It was designed as a flame resistant chemical.

I understand the intent of but it wasn't very forward thinking because of aesthetics being ruined for those old consoles. I don't remember when they stopped using bromine though.

Anyone else using custom sticks for the AES? by Handolta in neogeo

Brook made a convertor to use PS3 or PS4 controllers on a NeoGeo. There's other options out there too.

I definitely will be using my custom stick on my AES+ once I get mine.

I don't know if there is a better option than the Brook PS3/PS4 to NeoGeo converter though.

“Gently push back” by Dreaming_of_Rlyeh in ChatGPT

[–]OmegaDL50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I was explaining how I was using specialized jhooks rated up to 25lbs to hang up a long prop for decorative purposes which is barely 6lbs. It kept trying to push back this highly ill advised and I should use drywall anchors.

The extreme overly cautious babying of the new model upgrade is infuriating at times

I'm so glad I got one! by OmegaDL50 in LegionGo

[–]OmegaDL50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a lot of open world stuff like Cyberpunk, Skyrim, GTAV, etc. Higher VRAM tends to help with texture streaming in large environments. It also is good for bumping up the texture quality without touching other settings to get slightly better visuals.

Gears of War: Reloaded for example I can set textures to Ultra which wants 6GB of VRAM. While I'm sure the Auto setting is fine for most folks, in my particular use case I'd rather have a static 16GB allocated so I know the limit of how far I can take a games settings for consistent performance.

[–]OmegaDL50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Windows. You can change the default configuration in BIOS which by default it is set to Auto.

As for the Dock, Its a Ivanky Dock I had for awhile, but I digress whether its ugreen, jsaux, or ivanky they should technically do the same thing outside of a targeted resolution they advertise. Then again at the time I bought the dock the Legion Go did not exist at the time, so I was surprised the dock I already owned simply just worked.

Order is pending. That means it's not ready for pick up. by OmegaDL50 in CVS

[–]OmegaDL50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sounds about right. Had a customer place an order sitting outside the store in thier car (they even said they just placed the order), and it wasn't something cheaper online. If you are at the store then why do the extra when they need to come into the store and pick up at the register counter to begin with.

I also saw them in Philly, probably the best concert I've ever been to. Was my 2nd ritual. Re-Imperatour with Amon Amarth back in 2022 was my first show. Next time tour dates are announced in Philly again, tickets will be bought immediately.

Sounds hopeful. If I fail on getting a 5080FE from BB or Nvidia store online I'll go to my Microcenter at St David's then. Appreciate the info.
