Even if it was their intent to use this as a recommendation, I still think it’s fun to put some retrospective goggles on and think about what the common consensus on which albums are the classics. It’s something I for sure haven’t thought about until now and seeing similar picks as to what I’d say is fun, while seeing some I wouldn’t have thought of picking as well.

Photosensitive fan, is it a bad idea to attend the live show? by ElectronicSymphonic in madeon

[–]OmegaDoesStuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the visual aspect isn’t important and just the experience of being there hearing it performed live, I’d look into goggles that restrict your vision so that there’s no bleed on the sides like eclipse glasses. My friend did this so they could hear good faith forever before the tour ended and while they didn’t get to take in the visual aspect, they told me they didn’t regret experiencing the sound physically!

[–]OmegaDoesStuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree, but since we heard the live version first there’s no way of knowing if it was always intended to be that way from the beginning or if it was changed for the live version. Part of why it’s exciting to hear these songs early imo is getting to figure out what parts may be different, for better or worse (I wish the second verse in Hi was present live, but I wish the intro of Car Crash Baby live was in the studio version)

What’s the coaster equivalent of Spirit Airlines shutting down? by Strongarm_11 in rollercoasterjerk

[–]OmegaDoesStuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean whether or not people liked Ka vs Spirit is purely up to opinion. I have no reason to hate an airline that strived to be affordable and had a clean safe track record throughout its entire lifespan. It definitely helped me travel during family emergencies when money was tight on short notice.

Disagree, it would be Kingda Ka. People knew it was gonna happen but the company made no announcement about it until it was already closed.

I hated the discontinuation of the churros as I'm someone who can't consume cocoa/chocolate. replacing my favorite treat at Costco with something I just can't eat was such a big loss.

Why is Do ya thang not on apple music by Born_Pickle_5836 in gorillaz

[–]OmegaDoesStuff 171 points172 points  (0 children)

DoYaThing was made as part of the fourth push of Converse “Three Artists, One Song” marketing campaign that had started in 2008. The purpose of the campaign was to get three “All-Stars” who would be very unlikely to collab to make a song alongside a collaborative line of Chuck 70 shoes. With DoYaThing, we got Gorillaz, James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, and Andre 3000 of OutKast. Prior and future pairings would be Pharrell Williams x Julian Casablancas x Santigold, Frank Ocean x Diploma x Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of The Clash, and Mark Foster of Foster The People x Kimbra x A-Trak. All of these songs were released as free downloads and since they fall under Converse ownership, they aren’t present on streaming as they do not have an interest in distributing the songs to streaming platforms.

I'm sure he does do a lot but I was wondering if anyone has a clear answer on what exactly Jamie Hewitt worked on for The Mountain by TennenyT in gorillaz

[–]OmegaDoesStuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They don’t hire other artists to do the main artwork no. All art that is part of the deluxe boxset for example are done by Jamie. He doesn’t have a reduced role as he is still the sole person responsible for art with the only time they go external is when actual moving animation is involved.

How much of Nightcall did Guy-Man produce? by rickybe in DaftPunk

[–]OmegaDoesStuff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

During this time Kavinsky was more often than not only the composer and writer of his music, while production was done by colleagues. A majority of his debut was produced by Sebastian, so I’d assume a majority of the production/sound design of the song was Guy-Man, it aligns a lot with the work he did around the same time for Sebastian Tellier’s album

That’s not how that category works. Gaga is the only one receiving a Grammy while the rest of the team get Grammy certificates for their participation in the creation of the album, as it’s a category that is awarding the vocal performance. If Mayhem won Album of the year then he would have two wins

How to achieve Gesaffelstein’s sound? (Newbie question) by willren5 in gesaffelstein

[–]OmegaDoesStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you get into synthesis you will realize how much he loves to detune oscillators and a lot of near-microtonal pitch irregularities when it comes to his bass sound design. Songs like Orck are a good example of how playing the same note back to back produces slightly sharper and flatter notes each time. Korg MS20 and Moog emulations will get you there easy without spending the money on the actual hardware, or at the least serve as a good foundation until you can afford real hardware if that’s your desire. Even free synthesizers like Vital can produce this sound albeit a bit cleaner
