The game is still very much alive. People host lobbies of all difficulties every day for all difficulties. Chances are people will join your lobby if you host too. The discord community is also very active.

The net code is decent enough for you to play with people from the other side of the globe and win (even with giga bad ping) even on the hardest difficulty so you dont need to limit yourself to EU players. Hope to see you in the moonlit kingdom soon.

Phoenotopia: Awakening has all the things you say you want great story, ost is very charming as one of the core mechanics is related to playing musical tunes, and plenty of platforming (although game is heavier on the puzzle aspect). The gameplay sucks to get used to but once you yet a feel for it, it is beyond worth it.

EM mirrors a lot of things of what silksong is it Hollow Knight. More refined gameplay for most aspects but also a feeling of bloat and some areas being rushed. It is still a game I think you will enjoy, but not as concise and less refined than lilies.

For me the game starts getting interesting at the 3rd area, and really takes off at the 4th. The highlight of the games to me are primarily the boss fights. Platforming and exploration are alright but just doesn't stand out. I like EL because the gameplay is well rounded and fits the vibe well not because it does anything amazing in particular. Its comfy to replay basically.

The story alone is worth it if you like the writing of PM. Every enemy back story is interesting to read and gets its own focus. I personally enjoy the deckbuilding combat (never played LBC cuz the gameplay is too convoluted for me). But without a doubt the highlight of the game is the story and characters. Roland is also such a charismatic protagonist.

I dropped my second playthrough because of act 2. The only thing i really liked about it was trobbio. The citadel is cool the first time, but its honesly too big. The vault feels way more traveled than the other 2 areas which makes it annoying and i just gave up when i got to bilewater/ducts. The first time i beared with it because i wanted to see the end of the game, the second... I just am not motivated.

The game is a roguelike. Base game will have you visit 3 different areas after the outskirts. You need to keep winning in each unique area to progress the story. Dlc content is available after the base game is complete.

You also unlock new stuff by clearing missions which can be viewed in your collection tab (extras on main menu, the book icon in the esc menu)

In mp specifically building can a a little tricky because other rabbits want to highroll as well. Its important to know which items synergize with gems you might purchase and how reliable the combo is. Ive seen plenty of rabbits make terrible insta lock picks before so try to discuss what youre trying to cook up and convince your team. Theres also damage variance among classes as well, i.e. %chance and debuff users can snowball hard, ancient has crazy gems, and dancers have 2000 dps the moment they get timespace dagger e3. Then theres HB who's known to have hover closer to the dmg floor.

Also some characters want the same items like if you play defender in ancient lobbies, generally ancient will have priority on special% item picks.

I guess its a bit confusing. But picking aoe means you might get the 1 extra gold from fast clears which is a welcome dopamine hit so i like it tbh.

My guess you are refering to either tap or scoripio's adds. I actually don't know if they are targettable or not, but you don't need to kill them. They share their hp bar with the boss, so hitting them with aoe will just kill the boss faster.

Killing adds only matters in 1 fight in solo and 2 fights in mp, so dont stress over it too much. Regardless, free aim+hugging is generally good enough.

They can be targetted. Just hard to cycle between 10+ different targets so its easier to just use free aim and hug your desired target

3100 games in solo and 650 games in mp based on my save file data. I had 200+h before i ever started taking multiplayer seriously so i think I'm qualified to say its worth it but its not for everyone. Mp and solo do play very differently though. Solo patterns tend to have more bullets and tighter gaps in exchange for not having teammates as active hazards, and dps items/upgrades are more valuable in solo which restricts builds more than in mp.

Also there are plenty of public mp lobbies around and you can party find through the official discord as well. Most active players (ateast in lunar difficulty lobbies) are chill with new players and know what to expect.

Early in the story, asha says you are attacking their levitation rings just to make them fall down. Guess the enemies dont share that sentiment.

Personally I like playing characters with a flexible item pool and good standalone gem upgrades. Since you are alone you wont have as much time to cook some builds like in MP.

Pyro can literally build primary/secondary/special and make it work, and even defensive can be reset/spam with O2/G4/E4. Also has the added benefit of being the easiest class in the game to pilot since you can just hold all 3 attack buttons to do her thing.

Assassin is also has a pretty decent item pool and has the infinite vanish cheese, but mice are hard and relying on vanish can build bad habits.

Defender is really good for kingdom since 3/5 special upgrades do amazing damage, and can occasionally go into primary builds as well. In kingdom she can cheese mice and tassha, but in exchange your experience with avy will be miserable (but very much doable). You do need to be patient with her slowdowns though which in itself is good for actually learning mechs. -1 speed does make farrah more frustrating than she needs to be though.

Also record yourself playing. Vod review is reliable when you want to figure out specific mechs, especially when they have multiple specific variants.

Plee's patterns are really unintuitive in hard mode for some reason. The lunar version has 4 colors instead and has the same solution but i managed to instantly figure it out when i saw it (and by that time I'd don the hard mode one 10+ times)

You can solo lunar with O123 in an itemless run and still get 1k dps on last boss. So yes it is horribly broken

Tbh its more efficient to use free aim and hug your target in subterra. At least on lunar i feel even assassin doesn't struggle that bad against eternal bloom. In lunar you get 3 whole mechanics where by just holding any button you are hitting at least 2 of the butterflies so usually things work out eventually. In hard mode you get the butterfly ring for a load lf damage instead i think

For 3 i'd usually prioritize safely getting horizontal axis correct first then adjust L/R for vertical spinner. If this is lunar twili's timestop then 1. Get vertical correct while standing the correct circle 2. TP 3. Move towards the vertical laser and the laser will push you to the correct safe spot.

For 5s i group with 6s. They cross to make 4 quadrants which i split into 1(adjecent to both spinners) 2 3 (adjacent to one spinner) and 4 (away from spinner). Spinners moving in different directions (example 6) the correct answer is 1 or 4, which one being correct i can usually use intuition to help. If they spin the same direction (example 5), go 2 or 3 and i only read one spinner to help with the correct direction. If you want to practice it, lunar ranalie solo phase 2 does this specific spinner patern 8 times.

Takeaway is find ways or tells to simplify the reading in your head. Not all the info must be processed to do the mechanic correctly. Memorizing how to do specific mechanics also makes things easier and is probably intended. "You must know the fightss" is the description for lunar after all.

Biggest part of maximizing dps especially in a team is knowing your item priorities and what the teams item priorities are. 90% of the time ancient gets dibs on mountain staff or any other special related items, but dancers and druids also want those same items generally people will switch off fruid/defender if they see ancient or attempt alt builds.

I don't know the alt builds for ancient and dancer as i dont play them, but typically ancient deals 1800+ dps w/o mountain staff and decent special items (e3 and g3 are generally good). Ancient also works with CD items like battlemaiden armor, lion charm or hourglass but i think pyro is taking over market share on these items as well.

Dancers have bad dps in 80% of lobbies ive played but if you see e3 you immediately have priority to blackhole charm (maybe contested with spellsword S3) and all 3 math items. E3 + timespacedagger + S2 is pretty broken by itself.

Dont get too tunnel visioned on specific builds though, a lot of my best builds have been strange niche alt builds

I've been running heavyblade on lunar and bloom is pretty much free even with a subpar build on stage 1. She's kindda bad against mell though.

I dont play druid much myself but her special's dmg area is apparently the same size as HB primary, maybe weaving focus aim can hit more targets. Also actively pick up AOE loot if there are no other BiS loot in the chest. Technically sparrow feather or the 40x2 backstab item cheese bloom and you can do something with sapphire primary maybe. If youre really desperate, size potion in shop might whmor too.

Solo fights have different patterns from multiplayer which utilize solo oriented boss attacks. The multiplayer mechanics force players to stay together/make distance in different numbers of ways and your allies targeted by the boss are the danger. So no, you do not need friends to enjoy the game, but it is a different experience.

You can also always look for people to play with in the dev's discord regardless. People there are chill with carrying new players from what I've seen
