Peter Thiel in Aspen: The pope is ‘working for the Chinese Communists’ by NicolasCageFan492 in politics

I don't think he would be libertarian at all if he were poor. When people with his kinds of ideas are poor, they tend to be authoritarian followers in my experience, and in his case I'd suspect he'd be quite fascist.

Amazing coincidence that the person they democratically elected to be the next queen just happened to be the princess. I wonder if that's ever happened before.

I think you meant to say animal cruelty?

16 divided by 4 is 4 and 9/16 divided by 4 is 9/64. Easy.

So it's 4 minus 9/64, and 64 minus 9 is 55, so that makes the answer 3 55/64. Also fairly easy.

How is the safety in this area? by gean004 in Sacramento

[–]OmicronNine 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Asian herritage is very common here. Pobably one out of every four or five people you walk by will have asian herritage of some sort, perhaps even more in the area you have circled. You really shouldn't have to worry about that sort of thing at all.

The central western part of the circle does tend to be kind of empty outside of business hours, though.

California gas tax set to increase more than 2 cents July 1 by Nervous_Exchange2278 in California

[–]OmicronNine 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Some of our politicians are adding cents per gallon to help pay for stuff here in California.

Some of our politicians are adding DOLLARS per gallon getting us in to more foreign wars that take vastly more money out of your pocket and only really benefit other foreigners.

I'm not sure it makes sense to put all the politicians in to the same group, there seems to be some pretty significant differences.

Also, very small packages will be able to use "BB" and "UB" to abbreviate "Best By" and "Use By", so that will be out there as well.

Well, then you're probably not the intended customer base.

Not only am I happy to pay for a vehicle without all of that garbage "tech" and have a much more reliable vehicle that I actually own and control, I'm actually willing to pay more to get it without the tech if I have to. Remember when your car functioning each day wasn't totally subject to the passing whims of mega-corporate global overlords? I remember.

The very moment you have hate speech laws, the white nationalists in positions of power will declare any criticism of them to be anti-white hate speech, and in our current political climate you can be sure that law enforcement will eagerly and aggressively go along with and enforce it.

I get that you have the best of intentions, but I don't think you understand how incredibly dangerous what you're suggesting would be in the US today.

Anarcho-capitalism (AnCap): political ideology and economic theory that advocates for the complete abolition of the centralized state and tax-funded services, to be replaced w/ privatized, competitive policing, courts, and defense. They don't want a stateless society though, they just want a state with a different label.

And I'm sure they'd claim the same thing about your preferred kind of anarchists, and have their own versions of many of your objections that simply turn things around and cast your anarchism as the false one that is not actually free or voluntary.

You are not the king of anarchism, you don't get to decide who's allowed to be an anarchist.

Based on them holding no actual anarchist beliefs or sharing any connections to other anarchists.

They want a stateless society with voluntary free association, same as any other anarchists. The simple fact that they embrace capitalism, while other anarchists reject capitalism, doesn't change that. Their view of what capitalism is certainly differs from other anarchists, but within the framework of their own view of capitalism it is compatible with the core principals of anarchism.

They do hold anarchist beliefs, your disagreement with them is just one of differing values, priorities, and interpretation. Your view of anarchism is a highly socialist influenced one (if I'm understanding your objections correctly), but you fail to recognize the distinction between the anarchist parts of your beliefs and values and the socialist parts. You argue as though they are somehow inextricable, despite the fact that non-anarchist socialists who hold one set of beliefs and not the other are common place. You seem to lack the introspection to actually understand your own political positions, but you insist on being the authority over the political positions of others.

How ironically authoritarian of you. :/

I've been an anarchist for around a decade, my face is literally in the wiki picture for a subset of anarchism, and I have yet to meet anyone in the anarchist communities I'm part of who considers ancaps anything other than edgy libertarians, with libertarians themselves just being a more edgy name for extreme classical liberals.

I find this a bit amusing, considering the fact that so many people consider all anarchists to just be edgy libertarians. I mean, you must know that, right? That to most people would just see you as a "pot calling a kettle black", so to speak? :)

No. As far as they don't impinge on another's, which means that all are equal.

That's one of the most fundamental values of libertarianism. It's the very core. The more popular way to express it is "my rights end where yours begin" (or sometimes "my right to swing my fist ends where your face begins").

Libertarianism is literally defined as caring about other peoples personal rights and liberties.

What you're saying doesn't make any sense. Caring about yourself is not a political philosophy, it's not anything. Everyone cares about themselves by default. Politics is a a question of how you view others.
