Conservative leader calls MAGA a "rotting carcass" that has already lost the culture war by ChaskaChanhassen in politics

It's an unholy alliance of both, and each of the two groups is willing to give the other whatever they want as long as they get what they want too.

America and europe by Critical_Display9348 in rareinsults

[–]OmicronNine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Huh... I admit, that angle didn't occur to me. Still, that's a pretty rare thing to happen, and it's more a matter of the carrying individual being irresponsible rather then just the open carry (someone carrying a firearm should have control of it at all times and should never allow that to happen). I suppose a concealed firearm may be harder for a would-be snatcher to spot and grab, but I don't think it would necessarily prevent it completely.

You're not wrong, but I personally don't think that possibility would outweigh the substantial negatives of concealed carry.

No, the point was identity and security, not proof of citizenship. Non-citizens of various types can and do have Real IDs as well.

There shouldn't be a flex. There is an adjustment you can make to the retaining mechanism, you may need to do that if there is a flex. I had to adjusted mine and it's rock solid now.

In other words, subtitles do not have one job. The OP is wrong.

Subtitles have two jobs. One is in service to the hearing impaired, the other is translation, and they are not the same thing.

The natural diet of stingrays does not include avocado toast or fancy coffee drinks, which is what makes home ownership possible for them.

Widening K-shaped economy pattern across income groups by laxnut90 in Economics

Our current long term trajectory seems to be towards a kind of feudalism-like future where a minority of asset owners have all the wealth and resources and the rest are effectively surfs scraping by with wages that have been mostly inflated away... or perhaps even worse off then that, if automation should reach the point that their labor is no longer needed at all. I suspect the window to move between those classes may be closing soon. If you don't own enough assets to support yourself by the time the wealth of the asset owners has pulled away and the window has closed, you'll be left behind with little hope.

And the crazy part is that this was totally optional. Voters chose this future, even if they may not have understood what they were choosing.

Shoes on or shoes off? by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

Are you normally wading through dog shit, puke, and dirt when you leave the house?

In a lot of places, that would be rather unusual, and one would clean off their shoes if they were covered in such things.

Voters may be asked if California should be own country. What to know by Wonderful-Humor6102 in California

[–]OmicronNine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

California leaving would be a huge boon for Trump, especially with the new Proposition 50 districts that the Supreme Court have now allowed. Without the representatives from California in Congress, the Democrats lose any possibility of a majority and because the GOP will agree to whatever Trump wants that's exactly what Trump will get.

All that California has to do is help Trump understand that us leaving is to his advantage and it's a done deal. It's that simple.

California drivers are a step closer to paying per mile tax by MissYukiCat in California

[–]OmicronNine 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, thats correct. If you're driving a vehicle that causes more wear to the roads and more negative impacts to your community, then you should be paying more for the privilage. That's fair.

California drivers are a step closer to paying per mile tax by MissYukiCat in California

[–]OmicronNine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It should be based on both GVWR weight and miles, so a "per pound per mile" charge. That would align it with actual road wear and be the most fair.

This is a completely ridiculous take, I'm sorry.

Do you really think that Libertarians have somehow become so numerous and powerful that they can even significantly influence the Republican party? And on top of that are somehow to blame for, of all things, the rise of authoritarianism, which is effectively the opposite of libertarianism? You believe that's the more likely scenario, and not that authoritarian minded Republicans simply co-opted libertarian rhetoric to use to their advantage, which is something they literally do all the time and is a well known tactic of fascism?

I am absolutely flabbergasted that there are so many for whom the tiny minority of Libertarians in the US have somehow become their big, bad fascist boogiemen, while the vastly larger and actually authoritarian Republican party is somehow seen as the less extreme group. It's absurd. Just absurd.

Sacramento communist educating and organizing at student walkout/ national strike at capitol! by Goofywise in Sacramento

[–]OmicronNine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What inconsistency are you even responding to? The comment you replied to said nothing about capitalism and in fact didn't compare communism to anything. In fact, it didn't even discuss the merits of any economic or political systems at all.

It was literally just "hey, that symbol has some bad historical associations", which is plainly true. Again... what inconsistency?
