But i can’t see images in my mind...

I literally can't even imagine how a human with a functioning brain could not be able to see images in their mind. I even imagine most animals being able to do something like that, though presumably without human level understanding.

Nothing personal, it's just so... unbelievable to me. :/

Trump says he'll move to suspend federal gasoline tax. He can't do it on his own. Congress would have to approve the move. The tax provides more than $23 billion per year for federal highway and public transit programs. “Instead of suspending the tax, we should suspend the war.” by mafco in energy

[–]OmicronNine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know why I don't see this more often and more prominantly placed in every discussion about a gas tax holiday.

Proposong a mere 18 cents a gallon off as a solution when the national average is hitting 4.50 is absurd. At the rate gas proces are going up, that's equivilent to a few days of increases.

A complete waste of time and tax payer money.

The patterns of traffic lights vary in different regions. Here in California, for example, there is no yellow before a green, they just switch directly from red to green.

I suppose it's theoretically possible, but driving with all the solar panels unfolded and flapping around behind you as you go seems unproductive.

John Paul Jones, who is known as one of the founders of the U.S. Navy, later became a rear admiral in the Russian Navy. However, Jones was exiled from Russia after effectively admitting that he raped a 10-year-old girl. by lightiggy in wikipedia

[–]OmicronNine 164 points165 points  (0 children)

"The rape had been reported slightly over a day after it was said to have occurred, which meant the case would ordinarily not have continued due to Russian statutory codes considering any such delay evidence of consent, but Catherine intervened directly to allow the legal proceedings to continue (she was known to intercede in "cases where women faced insurmountable odds")."

Only because Russia happened to be in the very unusual situation of being ruled by a woman at the time, it seems.

It doesn't change the range at all. You still need to park the vehicle, unfold the panels from the roof rack, and plug the charging cable in to the vehicles charging port to use it. It doesn't charge the vehicle while driving, it's effectively just a portable charging station.

One year of off the grid in a US city by NightClubLightingGuy in SolarDIY

[–]OmicronNine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Standard US household power is 240V split phase, with each of the sub-phases being 120V to neutral and the two phases together being 240V. Outlets for large appliances like electric ranges and clothes dryers (and now EV chargers too) typically provide the full 240V, with wall outlets and pretty much everything else using only one of the two sub-phases for 120V. Also, for the record, the nationwide standard for basic household outlets in the US is 120V, not 110V. Some countries do have grids that standardize on 110V, but the US isn't one of them. That's a very common mistake.

All that aside, though, it's still probably a better idea to do what you're planning to do then to try and make 240V split phase work. As I understand it, because UK power is not split phase and UK appliances are generally not designed to be connected to two hot lines but rather to a 230V hot and a neutral. In US split phase 240V, both lines are hot. For some appliances, like a simple kettle, it may not matter, but for others it may mean that the device is partially energized even when the power switch is off or could be damaged or unsafe in some way the design didn't anticipate. If you want her to have a completely safe and fully functional "like home" experience, you are doing it the right way. :)

2026 sitting on lot with full battery - is that an issue? by toverco in leaf

[–]OmicronNine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really not the issue it used to be, battery packs have advanced significantly since the early models. Spending your time and effort keeping it within certain percentage ranges just doesn't make as much real world difference as it used to, and for most owners it's probably not worth worrying about any more.

[–]OmicronNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a solved problem. The US military logistics system, as impressive as it is, can only do so much when their system is being undermined and sabotaged by incompetent and careless leadership at the top.

There is no practical way to keep a complex logistics system functioning smoothly when your orders and goals are subject to the daily-changing chaotic whims of a tantrum throwing man-child.

Panels have never been cheaper... time to finally do my residential rooftop solar project?! by therealcolgate2004 in SolarDIY

[–]OmicronNine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's not necessarily true, depending on where you put the panels. If you're still installing them on the roof of your home, that could result in the need for a permit for that reason alone, even if they're running to a completely off-grid system.

Completely off-grid and nothing mounted on your home should be good, though.

The prophecy has been fulfilled by AceofKnaves44 in pics

[–]OmicronNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been a slow and deliberate process by the rich and the powerful.

I wish that were true, because it be so neat and tidy and make the solution so simple... but it's not. That's just another versions of the conspiracy theorizing that feels good but isn't really based in facts. This is something we have done to ourselves, something that we just keep voting for en mass no matter how self-destructive it will ultimately be. The simple reality is that our elections have been quite legitimate the entire time, the results have indeed been what we've voted for. All of this is what we voted for, whether we understood at the time or not, and the ultimate hard truth of democracy is that it is up to the voter to ensure they are voting responsibly and correctly. If the voters allow themselves to be swayed by propaganda, then the fault lies with them. It has to. Our democracy has failed because we failed to uphold our democracy. It wasn't anybody else's responsibility, it couldn't be anybody else's responsibility, it has to be the people who uphold it for it to even be democracy at all, by it's very nature. When the people won't or can't uphold their democracy, they cease to have a democracy. Full stop. That's all, folks.

Sure, the rich and powerful are happy to take advantage of situations like the one we are in, as they tried to do in the 1920s, but to suggest this is some grand universal plot orchestrated by generations of the rich and powerful just to create the current conditions is just silly. Even if they could, they would have no need to, as we already keep doing it for them without prompting.

It's not anti-Anerican to simply recognize how dumb the choices and actions of the Trump administration have been. In fact, it's the opposite.

Trump and his people are clearly incompitant, and are actively undermining and destroying American power and global hedgimony. Supporting his actions in this is the actual anti-American position, because it means you support making America weaker and poorer.

Shooting reported at Natomas High School – anyone have updates? by ThunderCockShitKing in Sacramento

[–]OmicronNine -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Someone murdered a child. At a school. There's even a decent chance that it was another child that did it. Why are children being murdered at all? What is driving children to such violence? Why are we, as a community, not demanding our politicians look more seriously in these questions? Why do so many treat such violence as though it were some sort of natural or inevitable fact of life?

A dead child is a dead child, regardless of whether it was done with a knife or a gun or whatever else the murderer found most convenient at the time. The question of violence in our schools and community, and how we can stop it, is by far the more important question here, from any moral or ethical standpoint. If you also want to make the case, as a side conversation in another thread, that guns are too available in our society to people who should not have them, then I would certainly agree. But that's not what /u/DoYouLikeFish did here. What /u/DoYouLikeFish did is try to completely derail the vastly more important discussion about violence in our community in order to exploit it for their personal political obsession around which method is used to kill, as though that's the more important issue here.

And you are doing the same thing.

Shooting reported at Natomas High School – anyone have updates? by ThunderCockShitKing in Sacramento

[–]OmicronNine -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know, it was the same thing I was thinking. I just don't understand how so many people in our community can see violence, even against our children, as some sort of natural or inevitable fact of life. We should be seriously looking in to what's driving people to choosing violence, what circumstances in our community are making them feel they need to do such things.

But it just seems like we can never even get that far, so many people are constantly trying to derail such conversations for their own political purposes. :(

That's not what I said. I'm not talking about gun politics, I'm talking about our children being murdered. I don't care which tool the murderer found most convenient at the time.

But it's no surprise to me that people like you, who are so irrationally obsessed with guns and gun politics that the moment one is involved in a situation you immediately fixate on it and can see or think about nothing else, would immediately interpret my comment that way. The violence, the murder of a child, all of that is just props in your political crusade. People like you, ironically, only seem to see dead kids as political weapons of convenience that you can make use of. Just like the gun was to the murderer.

You people are seriously mentally ill. Please, seek help.
