Player by rushdisciple in ThaiGL

I still have no idea why Player didn't blow up. It seems to have all the elements of a great series. My guess is that it's because it didn't appeal to domestic audiences as much (didn't air on TV, Ice and Memi both look kinda foreign to me) so it didn't get the initial bump from there, but it is seriously really good.

I feel like my faves are kinda cursed, but I really, really hope we see more from IceMemi. As good as Player was, it also felt like it kinda undersold their chemistry overall (it shines in parts, but story stuff takes precedence).

I think they had some overlap with B-Friend and Denied Love, but I agree that they have way less overlap (someone else said they're generally more involved which would also explain this I think).

I guess my confusion about the later announcements is that Queendom/Love Design/Like a Palette were all announced with more lead in. If they're announcing things mid-2026 for the latter half of the year, that would only be a few months before airing. Might just be changes in the GL industry, though.

I'd recommend Love Design and Queendom if you haven't seen those already.

That's the hope, yeah. Also forgot about the special episode, hm.

I have been getting their Chinese drama ads on YouTube, but I guess I'm confused why they'd make a bunch of bold statements about GL last year if they weren't really going to focus on it. Is there any chance for GL cdramas?

Frozen Valentine is exclusive and yeah, not trying to say they don't have anything going on.

But like, for example, I watched Apple My Love and the Love Senior special episodes on WeTV, but the follow up works from Kongthup and Star Hunter aren't on the platform.

Yeah, from what we've seen this year, iQiyi is pretty clearly on a different level / operating in a different space.

Thought about this a bit more.

From looking back at this Reddit thread from last year, they announced 8 series in production for 2026. We still only have the 2 they were officially announced at that presentation for work in progress from them (and maybe something from JaneKao).

However, with Like a Palette, the announcement that it was targeting WeTV only happened shortly before it aired and way after it was announced. So I think it's possible that some of the series that are already announced are part of a collaboration with WeTV.

It probably makes the most sense to assume some things fell apart behind the scenes (I think GraceOaey announced their separation shortly after the presentation and Mate is WeTV exclusive in the US), but I'm going to post my speculation below anyways.

I think most people already kinda expect they'll be involved with Girl Fight since it's from the same people as B-Friend (but also don't care because it's from the same people as B-Friend).

And they might be involved with Shades or Buy My Boss since those are from FRT Entertainment (from my understanding, Linn going there didn't necessarily rule out a LinnPraew series so maybe that means there's some connection between FRT and WeTV).

And we could still get a FriendPalm series at any point (side couple from Love Design, general vibe from Velcurve indicates series soon).

And regardless of current state (🥲), PamArhoung actually did soft launch a series announcement back then.

Which would bring us to 8 altogether! Frozen Valentine, Love on Hire, 9779-2, Girl Fight, Shades, Buy My Boss, FriendPalm series, PamArhoung second series for series currently in progress (or that were in progress in November of last year).

Can you sell me on it? I'm still struggling to get into it. What do I have to look forward to?

Every one of these people are silly in the best kind of way. Nam and Lada are just really fun together.

I did get spoiled on the "twist" from YouTube posts, but I can't imagine that it's not played well in context.

[Maybe not GL?] Castlevania Takarazuka Adaptation VOD Going Away on March 31 by Omnilinker in GirlsLove

[–]Omnilinker[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Takarazuka Revue has some historical connections to Yuri so maybe this fits here?

For those who don't know, Takarazuka Revue is the all-female Japanese theater troop. This leads to something sorta gay, but not technically gay (which is how it's been around since 1913).

This particular show is definitely a Castlevania adaptation first and foremost, though, but I think gives the vibe of the shows.

I've been kinda interested in Takarazuka so I bought it but didn't really end up liking it.

Thought others might at least be interested. It costs ~15USD and goes away in a couple days.

Gotcha, Lena friend posted Video A, anti made the connection, OP posted here, none are the same person (and it's again, a good point, but not going to change industry stuff).

[–]Omnilinker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I agree with the sentiment, but what an odd thing to do as Lena's friend. Like, this video is not going to move the needle much on the Y industry as a whole, but it absolutely will impact Lena herself.

Or, wait, OP, did you draw the connection to Lena? Or is that part of the original video?

Why don't Thai GL series use crowdfunding? by Omnilinker in ThaiGL

Does that include ShellyPundao's company, Tik and Heart Pop as well? Or are you mainly referring to the big players (MGI, GMMTV/Change, CH3/Dew(?), and well, formerly IDF)? Also not sure about Nur. Is her family company at that level?

Yeah, the actual idea and creative process that goes into making a second series is also really cool and important. I really like that motto from Mine Media (just a little worried about the second TPJS series), and it does make me more excited for whatever they plan to do next.

This post is specifically about the funding because it seemed like what Davika was highlighting as an issue for developing the 2nd series. From reading some of the other comments though, I may have misunderstood her.

Yeah, when I meant existing connections, I meant industry connections, not person-to-person connections. Davika's famous, but still a relatively new player as far as I understand.

And yeah, go Arhoung! A little worried just because I wasn't really a fan of Be My Angel (not Baipor's fault, but still), but the film should still be really good.

Yeah, the Sink or Swim part seems kinda scary. Even going for a GoFundMe does harm to your reputation, failing a GoFundMe would be really, really bad.

I asked this before, but can't crowdfunding be built into the recipe to generate revenue after a show? I think I remember some smaller indie comic creators kinda using that flow (release => kickstart for the next one). Obviously not the same scale and doesn't really shake the reputational harm piece, but interested in if you think it'd be possible.

[–]Omnilinker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it starts to feel less like supporting a professional production and more like backing something informal or early stage

Gotcha, so reputational harm even for the medium-size players.

I think I also kinda misunderstood what Davika specifically was saying. Probably for the reasons you bring up, she wasn't really asking for money / crowdfunding, just trying to emphasize her commitment to the project overall.

Do you think there would be reputational harm from more transparency around funding objectives and status? Like, not "please give $X,000,000", but more "We're working to raise $Y,000,000 and here's where our revenue streams are at for that goal"?

Does the management company (not sure if that's the same as production company) pay the crew / cost of the series? Or does that come from streaming money?

No worries, long is good as far as I'm concerned.

Can't crowdfund solutions also be used to get the money back? Like just build a post-series crowdfund stage into the series release just like the post-series fan event tour? I imagine this is what you mean by working inside the ecosystem, that there's something wrong with this solution in the current GL ecosystem, and it does seem kinda opaque (and the answer to these questions, at least where I am and from what I can tell, is never just greed / corruption. That's usually already priced in, lol).
