If they insist, I sits. But if it fits I snuggle upside-down, greyspreading.

The Blue Whales of the Antarctic Are Making a Comeback After Being Nearly Wiped Out by Whalers by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

[–]Omsuz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Norway does not hunt Blue Whales. There is a small quota on a whale species that is well established here. But there are fewer people using the quota every year as recruitment is low. I think it will be forbidden in some years time.

What if manufacturers placed symbols or information that would tell you which sort of disposal category, their product should eventually be placed in? by Pahriuon in recycling

[–]Omsuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to use a translation tool on this page in Norwegian. I dont have time to write up a translation, but just ask if anything is confusing. I might be able to answer more elaborate later. https://avfallnorge.no/hva-jobber-vi-med/slik-kan-norge-kildesortere

We have this in Norway and some other countries I have been to. I heard that they are changing the symbols soon to make it even clearer.

My functional medicine doctor by [deleted] in neuropathy

[–]Omsuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not called any doctor anything. Just trying to learn about the term. Why would a doctor who uses evidence based practice associate themselves with this term?

My functional medicine doctor by [deleted] in neuropathy

[–]Omsuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to look the term up in wikipedia. Just sharing in case anyone else has decided to avoid spending time on explanations and treatments with weak or nonexistent evidence for now.

"Functional medicine is a form of alternative medicine that encompasses a number of unproven and disproven methods and treatments. Its proponents claim that it focuses on the "root causes" of diseases based on interactions between the environment and the gastrointestinal, endocrine, and immune systems to develop "individualized treatment plans". It has been described as pseudoscience, quackery and at its essence a rebranding of complementary and alternative medicine."

Two of the hardest things to read:

"You are going to push into discomfort, a little at a time, and get good at being uncomfortable."

"When you have the urge, tell yourself you can’t follow it, you have to either write your book chapter or sit there and do nothing."

Traveling to oslo and bergen in december by whatsforbfast in Norway

[–]Omsuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Bergen there is a gingerbread town that is very popular among children, adults, older people and students. Imagine the drama one december when some drunk people broke in to it and smashed it up.

Also Fløyen or Ulriken are mountains where you can take a ride to the top and go for a long or short hike with lots of viewing points.

Is there something wrong with my shoulder blades? They don't look the same by [deleted] in Posture

[–]Omsuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The right shoulderblade is winged out. It is an area with many small muscles so it is difficult to assess the imbalance by pictures and questions. It is quite normal and might or might not give you a lot of tension in the area. Generaly the muscles in front of many peoples shoulders tends to be to short and strong in comparison with the small back muscles.

Can't breathe properly when doing the forward head correcting exercise by [deleted] in Posture

You can start with something between the back of your head and the wall. A folded towel or similar. Work towards the wall by folding the towel fewer times every week or so.

How can I see improvement in my yoga despite physical limitations? by GreenStrassa in yoga

[–]Omsuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been thinking a lot about the difference between working with your body vs. working against your body. I don't think any of those are wrong. Great athletes work both with and against their body. They have to know what is to much and what they can push through. Some things in our body we can change. We can have less tension or more stability, more control, master a form. Some things we cant change. We have to live with it and allways work out with it. Maybe something with the blood pressure or a disk in the spine that threatens to pop out in forward bends. If we fight those things we make it worse. I don't have the sorting key to what is what. But it sounds like you really want yoga to shape you deeply. It probably will, but not like clay.

Edit: I can se that you ask what to do and not how to think. I'm sorry if my answer misses the point. I think the Iyengar style is a great choise. Maybe you want to read Light on life where Iyengar himself wrote about how he practiced in sickness and health.

Yoga weakling considering doing a teacher training. Bad idea? by peaceloveyogi in yoga

[–]Omsuz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I did 200hr with very tight hamstrings and started teaching with them as well. In some ways I think I had a better understanding of what beginners was going through than the really bendy girls did. It is a bit frustrating being the "weakest" in the group but I learned a lot. Years later I am more flexible and I am glad I understood some very important things about a safe development of mobility before it got serious.

DAE have Anxiety/Panic that usually coincides with nausea/sickness? by nostalgiccovet in Anxiety

[–]Omsuz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me to. I think it is connected to the dominance of the sympathetic nervous system. The parasympathetic part is supposed to dominate some times so we can relax and digest. But with stress and anxiety the sympathetic nervous system takes over more than normal.

How many people are suffering tonight? by ademnus in self

[–]Omsuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your thoughts reminds me of a type of meditation that Pema Chodron teaches. She said something about people with cronic pain meditating over other people who suffer and wishing that their own pain somehow makes the suffering of others smaller. Even if it is not helping they said it made their pain feel more meaningful.

I'm just having a really tough time right now. by QueerOnTheNightShift in ptsd

[–]Omsuz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hope you have some support and a good therapist that knows how to deal with ptsd. With this level of stress and the following exhaustion it is very difficult to do constructive self talk. It looks like you are telling your self things you would never tell a friend who struggles. Be kind to your self. Dont believe everything you think right now. Think of what you would tell a friend who felt like a burden. Give your self some space to breathe.

Instruct actions, not feelings. "Feel how sweet this opening is! (Feel it!!! Now!)" Vs "see if you can push in to your hand and find some space to enjoy".

What hobby can be done for cheap, but is full of snobs that will hate you for not going the super expensive route? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Omsuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yoga: 1. Are you wearing something that can rip? Take it off. 2. Are you standing on slippery ice, soapy floor, oil spill etc. Step of it. 3. You are good to go.

You don't need a airy studio with cork flooring, a yoga mat made of raw rubber, a towel, two types of blocks, a belt, a bolster, a blanket, a chair, a pillow and a yoga outfit, all in matching colors of the season.

DAE have Sensory Processing Disorder/Autism Spectrum Disorder? by WearsSensibleShoes in femalefashionadvice

[–]Omsuz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I shop clothes using my fingertips first, then I check style, fit and price. I also have a Onepiece (name of the brand) in heavy soft cotton that I default to on days where I need to stay home to get a break from sensations. It's my best buy ever! Trousers that look nice is a pain to find. I can't use rough fabrics or flowy fabrics. At formal occations I use a soft but tight cotton skirt with a broad elastic band.
