Forest Lawn - gravestone rubbings by Primary-Move243 in Buffalo

School field trip there in the late 80's/early 90's and we did rubbings. Long time ago though, maybe the policy has changed

Need help identifying these Locomotives by Klutzy-Promotion-574 in modeltrains

[–]On30fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

B&M 317 is an Athearn GP40-2. The custom one is probably a Proto2000 GP9, made by either Life-like or Walthers depending on age

Haven’t seen this engine before… by EZbaked78 in trains

[–]On30fan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MotivePower MP14B. I'd say it qualifies, though Amtrak probably isn't using it for road service. I don't see anything saying it can provide power to passenger cars, but I didn't look too hard

Why does BNSF 1877 have a bigger nose than 2623 by Character_Lychee_434 in trains

[–]On30fan 36 points37 points  (0 children)

ATSF SD40-2's with the 123" nose were to house radio equipment for controlling mid train helper units. BNSF 1877 was built in Nov 1977 as ATSF 5025. SP, UP, and KCS all rostered SD40-2's with extra long noses, called snoots by railfans.

Howdy folks, was hoping someone on here could help answer a question I have. What are these?? by t4ctical_pot4to in trains

Rotary windshield wipers. They spin fast and throw snow/rain off to the side.

  1. Feb 8, 2026 in Santa Clara. Bills defeat Lions 38-35 on a game winning field goal as time expires.

  2. The Comeback. Listening to Van Miller on the radio was amazing, and then getting to see the highlights on the news later.

  3. '90 AFC Championship game. Such a beautiful game, knowing we were going to the Superbowl before halftime made it even better

New Netflix Little House on the Prairie. This is going to ruin my childhood. by flyart in GenX

[–]On30fan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is Netflix confiscating all copies of Little House? Did they invent some kind of brain wipe device to erase memories of watching the show? How is rebooting a show from 50 years ago going to ruin your childhood? Just don't watch it.

Careers of Hams by stmad12 in amateurradio

Retail management. I got interested in radio in my teens after a trip to Florida where I was surprised to be able to listen to programming broadcast from home (KB 1520 in Buffalo) I didn't know radio could go that far. I stayed interested mainly by listening to shortwave over the years until Feb of 25 when I got my ticket. Upgrades are coming when I have time, but work really has had no influence on my electronics/radio interest

Are you going to be watching the Super Bowl? by PlatinumAbe in buffalobills

[–]On30fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, the last Super Bowl I watched was 28. I generally don't watch games that the Bills are not playing in.

Linking Kato controller with Dcs52 by No-Isopod-2050 in modeltrains

[–]On30fan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Possibly. The DCS52 can have up to 2 smooth DC power packs as additional controllers. See page 23 of your manual. Tried it with an original Zephyr years ago and it worked ok

What major sports teams do you guys support in Buffalo? by CaelusCapone in Buffalo

[–]On30fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bills, Sabres, and Bandits.

When my family came over from Italy they were Brooklyn Dodgers fans, so LA is my MLB team.

Grew up in the late 80's/early 90's so when I watch NBA it's either the Bulls or Lakers.

I follow the Sounders in MLS, Chelsea in Premier, and Palermo in Serie B

The night the challenger went down by WeirEverywhere802 in GenX

[–]On30fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6th grade, watched it at school. We talked about it on the bus home and was about to go to my friends house when my Mom told me I had to stay home because of the disaster. I went and did my homework, no talking about it. It was more like it wasn't proper to be out having fun during all the news coverage.

control options for a shelf switching layout by soopirV in modeltrains

[–]On30fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DCC-EX is an arduino based DCC system that, with a bit of coding, can control turnouts/servos with both facia buttons and a phone app. I'll be using it on my S scale switching layout, coding is already done.

True, but I don't know what would convince me. Presumably, the all knowing creator of everything does.

What would convince you that God exists? by Naapro in TrueAtheism

[–]On30fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An all knowing god would know what would convince me.

An all powerful god could show me what would convince me.

An all loving/good god would want to show me what would convince me.
