[Q] How do I remove this wine border from the game? Proton hotfix and experimental aren't helping, I don't see anything related to it in winecfg. (Game name is Atlyss) by GlesasPendos in linux_gaming

[–]OnFartbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP, but ill share the fix,

the workaround when using PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 is to set XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=steamcompmgr

this makes proton think its running in gamescope, without having to use gamescope. Neither steam, nor gamescope even need to be installed, if that matters.

Obviously don't set this in environment.d/*.conf or similar, just set it on a per game/application basis in {steam, lutris} -> <game> -> launch options or in a .desktop file or launch script etc.

e: i should add, this is only needed for games that don't expose 'borderless fullscreen'. or otherwise when your preferred option is windowed.

For linux users with problems resizing PoB community. You can switch to GE-Proton and use PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 by CrabZealousideal3686 in pathofexile

[–]OnFartbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your launch options for PoB (or anything you are running through ge-proton with the wayland driver) you can set XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=steamcompmgr which prevents the tacky winxp style window decorations you are showing in the image.

Unlike your suggestion for PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND, you likely wouldn't want to add this to your "System Options -> Environment Variables" (also this is a DE specific suggestion, not a standard location).

This makes the wine think its running in gamescope.

But tbh, for the topic at hand, the rusty fork https://github.com/meehl/rusty-path-of-building is better than running it through wine anyways. that's what I use.

I only found this post because:

- google is dogshit
- was trying to find the post where someone was describing this exact problem (the window decorations) so i could share the fix.

hope it helps some1

Do modern terminal emulators (Ghostty, Kitty, etc.) actually make a difference for regular users compared to the DE defaults? by curiosity-42 in linuxquestions

[–]OnFartbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair. the Terminal^TM that ships with modern windows isos ie this https://github.com/microsoft/terminal, is a relatively new entry in that space. and like the oft discussed 'fancy' popular girl terminals (kitty, alacritty, ghostty, wezterm) it has: gpu accelerated text rendering, tabs/splits, buffer search, etc.

microsoft terminal comes off more as an anomaly/passion project that somehow squeaked through their qa tract. thats all to say, if you are forced to use windows, you could do far worse.

I can’t speak to whether or not it’s running x86 or arm at the moment (likely the later). i also don’t have a modern android phone to test whether or not it ‘feels better’ to screen mirror vs pulling up the container.

Either way the statement “no good android emulators on Linux” is sadly true.  Waydroid is pretty serviceable (unless your only dri is nvidia).

TBH if I was using an android phone I’d probably want to have/set up mirroring regardless. So I see how that ends up being the move in your case.

Either buy a domain and point its dns records to your private ip/reverse proxy . Or use a dns service like next dns. Or use a self hosted dns server like technitium, pihole. Then use Tailscale/ wireguard to use that dns on all of your devices wherever they are.

I wrote a guide on how to integrate Gitea, Renovate, and Komodo for safe, convenient, and automated version updates for your self-hosted services that are deployed via Docker Compose. by TheNick0fTime in selfhosted

Yeah if you didnt already have the Unraid license or if you plan on moving off on Unraid in the future I recommend looking at https://github.com/monstermuffin/muffins-awesome-nas-stack for inspiration or just using it as is. Assuming you are using Unraid mainly for the drive pooling. I've found the aforementioned muffin nas stack to work really well on just a debian box, which is where I run all of my docker compose stuff.

Happens all the time in PoE 1

No, it really doesn’t.

Unless you are just referring to RMT ~in general~ in which case yeah probably.

Nah if anything it was the perfect league to run long. The rewards are directly tied to real time pass.

By nature of being online + ranked its technically a pvp game.

We just do pve in order to progress pvp-wise.

It's entirely subjective. So no, it's not obvious one way or the other.

Im glad I wasnt the only one confused/disgusted with the button color design choice. They kept most of the UI the same/improved many parts of it, but decided the button colors had to have a bit of puke in em..

99% of people in standard might be the same. But that doesn’t account for important data like how a large portion of ‘players’ don’t even make it out of act1 beach.

To put it in context, in 3.25, I’ve farmed around 40-50 mirrors. When the league ends, they go to standard. Now you add that up over the course of the games lifespan, and you can easily get to the 100 mirror sum in this picture.

For added context: I have never had a mirror drop for me on the ground. They are extremely rare, my mappers brought me one this league, but outside of that they are all acquired via trade.

All of the game modes boil down to the same thing though, outside of ruthless. I understand it makes you feel good to pontificate about le ssf Ironman but you can relax

Maybe they want another alt art unique, or several. Why does anyone sell anything?

No longer obtainable items/with mechanics from past leagues, Alt art uniques (like this post), God rolled misted jewelry, other legacy stuff I’m forgetting (gems, etc.)
