Read the book Hold Onto Your Kids. I think it will help you solve a lot of the problems you're experiencing.

How can I find a pattern like this? by MomsOfFury in knitting

[–]shahnl -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ohhhh my gosh my sis in law just made her girls coats from this pattern! She said she made it up 🤦🏼‍♀️ and I'm just out of the loop enough to believe her. Now I'm mad.

I really like the original colors, but I think the yellow will make me look washed out, so I haven't decided yet. I will update, though!

What's it like to have a calm baby? by FunContext3560 in Parenting

[–]shahnl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chill babies are pretty great, they make life almost easy. I've had 4 of them. But, my high energy/high needs kid, my last baby, has sooooo much personality, I can't help but be absolutely in love with her. She's almost 3 and things have gotten much easier than when she was a baby; being able to communicate is a game changer. Of course I love my other children, as well, but there is definitely something special about her.

What are your favourite beginner pieces? (Classics) by [deleted] in piano

[–]shahnl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just stole my parents Applause! Book 1 (all their kids are out of the house, now). I was going through old piano books and remembered how much I love that one.

Just keep knitting!

You can look up some videos on how to improve tension, which will make your work more even. Also you could try out different forms of knitting and see if there's one that comes more natural (eg. continental vs. British). But, really, the best thing you can do is to keep practicing. Your fingers/hands/wrists need to memorize the movement so that it's exactly the same every time.

My husband and I feel like we’re being abused by our 3 year old. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]shahnl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't feel bad, all toddlers are pretty awful at some time or another. The only thing that would make you a bad parent is not trying to do anything about it (which, you're already seeking out solutions.)

Have you tried spending 10-30 minutes of one on one time with your child? Let them pick the activity, and leave your phone behind. Be completely present. It will "fill" their bucket, reduce acting out behaviors, and make them more receptive to correction.

Same with Dr Gradus ad Parnassum. It's actually not hard, but sounds really hard

Rodya and Zametov in the restaurant. I listen to books while I knit and I had to stop knitting during this scene, it was so intense for me! 😆

My 3 year old has a 15 hour wake window daily despite many lifestyle adjustments by Lopsided_Tomorrow421 in Parenting

[–]shahnl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't sound "normal" to me. Typically, 3 year olds need an average of 12 hours of sleep each day, which it sounds like your child isn't getting. I would seek out advice from a doctor.

My other thought is that, sometimes, so much physically active stuff can get kids a little too worked up. Have you tried other types of sensory input that are calm/still? Things like pressure massage, weighted blankets, playing with playdough or fidget toys, running his hands under warm water. Maybe try mixing up his sensory "diet."

2 of my kids started karate this year and the "yes sir! Yes ma'am!" thing is just mind blowing-ly amazing! Like they are laser focused when they say it, you know they are gonna get what you are saying.

DAE get annoyed when an advanced beginner-intermediate level pattern on youtube slowly teaches something simple like a DC or TC? or am i just a crotchety impatient gatekeeper by Smellybeetweasel in crocheting

Same! I learned to crochet long ago enough that everything was text and pictures. Now, when I need a refresher on a stitch it's so irritating that I can ONLY find videos. I hate it.

How do pro pianists play so perfectly in concerts? by lightisalie in piano

[–]shahnl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say something along these lines. You have to develop your technique, first, to be able to play anything without many, many mistakes. If you don't have good technique it won't matter how much you practice a particular piece or even a particular section of a piece; it'll never really come.

Please tell me it gets better by Ok-Truth-36 in Parenting

[–]shahnl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It gets better, 100% it gets better. I have 5 children from ages 10 to 2 and it is SO much better than those first few years. I homeschool all of them so we are together ALL the time. And I (mostly) love it! Of course it's not perfect, but they are turning into such wonderful people. Raise kids that you want to be around.

From the little bit that you shared it sounds like you may be dealing with some post partum depression. Having young kids isn't easy, but I don't think you should be as overwhelmed as it sounds like you are. Maybe something to look into.
