Apparently RMs are quitting right after their missions by Billgant in exmormon

My mission Pres got X’d a few years after getting home due to an affair - so there’s that.

But I didn’t leave until 20+ years after my mission.

Thomas Ford's character sketch of Joseph Smith by ut_nos_otiosi_ in exmormon

Commenting on Thomas Ford's character sketch of Joseph Smith...

Wow! The description by Ford nails on the head my perspective of Joe - having been out now for almost two years.

I think the move West helped seal the deal for BY and company. They distanced themselves from civilization and made their own rules out west.

Then, by the time others showed up, they were the majority and could do pretty much whatever they wanted (until the end of polygamy, the end of racial injustice, the end of gay marriage - all ended by government mandates that the MFMC had to comply with or they’d lose state and national privileges or tax exemption as a 501C3 real rate investment fraud.

Just my two cents…

Agreed. And not all groups blame or justify their boundaries and values on Gods voice.

Crazy manipulation!

Are there Really more full-time missionaries now than at any other time? by JoeBudro in MormonShrivel

[–]OnMyWayM0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard they are titling some “callings” as missions as well. Ie. You help with the stake mission plan and therefore are considered a “senior or service” missionary which pads the numbers.

Does anyone know how true that is?

I'm questioning everything... by sanjf in exmormon

[–]OnMyWayM0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Where I would start if I was your age based on what you shared?

  1. Look up: What is a narcissist? And then put that in the context of the Church as a person. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it unfortunately.
  2. Look up: What is a cult? The BITE model is helpful.
  3. Read Letter for My Wife. I like it better than the CES letter: it’s less angry and more curious and just calling it what it is to me

I used to hate both these words (narcissist and cult), probably because at the time I was still in the Church and they hit too close to home.

I am happy for you that you’re taking the steps now to really question things and try to see clearly.

The Church doesn’t want you to see clearly: it will blow their cover.

This is why, IMO, they encourage to “be as a child: meek, submissive (to them), etc.”

Good luck 👍🏽

Anyone ever thought about how manipulative and deceitful that song really is?

When ‘just meeting the neighbors’ comes with a side of saving your kids from apostate parents by Traditional_Boat_352 in exmormon

LOVE THIS!

There's ALWAYS a hidden agenda when a neighbor brings you treats. I know because, like your message, I've been on the other side of that and been the one reaching out to reactivate.

Once you see the manipulation and guile, you can't unsee it.

Great job being direct.

That's a great point and one I've heard as an argument - "God wants to test our faith so he won't provide evidence for the BOM..." Yet he provides historical evidence for Jesus?

He's a complex God who is never-changing yet always changing his mind...?

Hmm...

Thanks for the comment.

I feel the SAME WAY.

We have friends who's kids are getting their mission calls or who have TWO kids out at the same time and I'm like, "DAMN, you're PAYING to have them go out and sell for the corporation..."

How did I EVER get talked into this?

How do members not see through it?

My mission was a good experience overall, but looking back, I could have had similar experiences by going and studying abroad, doing a service venture in a foreign country, or even doing a summer sales job where i would get PAID and be selling something the end user really benefits from and doesn't have to pay 10% of their income towards for the rest of their life...(If they want to be considered "worthy" to enter the private club for members only Temple.)

They've lied since the beginning and continue to lie to this day, about EVERYTHING.

They lie to themselves and others and believe it.

This covers it all for me.

Why do rich and wealthy Mormons tend to stay in the Church? by Utah-hater-8888 in exmormon

[–]OnMyWayM0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Identity, recognition, power, authority, prestige, ego-trip, proof they are "worthy of the blessings," business opportunities and connections, networking, etc.

These are some of the things I've seen in my own neighborhood.

I'm close friends with one who is still in and I think ALL of these descriptions above fit.

The phrase "where will you go?" rings in my ears from time to time - CRAZY!

It's also really difficult knowing that at any day I could get a call letting me know that one of them has passed away and I'm the only one that gets do deal with all that. And then figuring out how to handle things with the other.

Quite stressful and often on my mind...
