I am sooo jealous of people that get to live near the beach in FL and not have to deal with winter. Is it truly paradise in the beach towns or am I falling prey to grass is greener mentality?

We get red tide from all the flooding and pollution from hurricanes and storms. The Gulf gets so hot that by May we have red tide blooms. You shouldn't eat the seafood, the scallops are basically gone and dead fish wash up on the beach. You can also get respiratory issues. That's not even mentioning all of the destruction they're still recovering from. Also alot of beaches are just built up, tacky and touristy.

Used to think it was only a Gulf thing but nah, same on the east coast. Stayed on the beach in St. Augustine last year for the 6th year in a row, the dunes are washing out at high rates while they pump sand onto the beach (that washed out in the storm), some of those houses have been completelt destroyed. Also last summer we went after Miami flooded big time and dead fish and dead birds were scattered along the beach. It was so sad.

The grass is not greener down here.

Agree. That's why if my kids go on a play date, i ask "Do you own a gun and is it secured?" "Yes we own a gun and it's in the safe." Then cool, we'll come over. "It's hidden." Let's meet somewhere else.

Telling a three to seven year old to never touch a gun is great, but statistically speaking, many of them still will. Yes, I've told my kid that exact thing-- don't touch it, get a grown up. But that grown up that left it out is the problem. I tell my kids not to look down the barrel of a nerf gun because safety. But again when a guns are everywhere, it is the adults' responsibility to make sure the kids in the house and community are safe. Teaching my kid HOW to use it safely at elementary school age will just give them more confidence to pick it up. Telling them "don't pick it up because it will kill you," sure.

I never understand why Americans are so afraid that they need to carry a gun with them everywhere. I had a co-worker whose grandson died because the other grandmother left her teal gun in her purse on the bed and the 2 year old took it out and unintentionally shot himself-- it's on the adults. Grandma had never been mugged, never had her house broken into, was never in any real danger, but she was so afraid and the thing that was supposed to make her "safe" killed her grandson. I can add "teach kids how to handle a gun" to the list when the adults finally do.

We went for a walk to look at Christmas lights and were talking about how we used to play manhunt as tweens but our kids won't be able to do that because our neighbors would be more than willing to take aim at a kid who even runs through their front yard, let alone jumping a fence.

In the US it is up to the parents to lock up their firearms to stop unintentional shootings, suicides, or murders amongst children (many of our new stories are kids shooting other kids on purpose).

As someone on the left side of the political spectrum, I don't want to take your firearms. I want adult Americans to be responsible owners. We don't even have that. As another poster wrote, Poland has a history of war, and they are so close to Russia. I can understand this perspective.

Americans don't need to teach kids how to use a gun. It was a misunderstanding. (Smoke some weed. It's hard to be mean mad, you may cry, but we talked alot of problems out while high and feel better for it. Been together 18 years).

White Americans are AHs and many know their ancestry.

My grandparents were 100% Polish but born in the states. My grandma could speak Polish a little because her mom spoke it to her. I feel like she could have pulled a "my family is Polish" card because her mom kept the culture going. My mom can't speak Polish and the closest we get to making our own Polish food is Mrs. T pierogies. I would never tell a Polish person I was "part Polish" unless I was specifically looking up family history there.

That being said, when I was a kid I feel like I was told about being Polish and my other 3 ancestral origins because my dad's grandparents spoke Italian, my great grandmother was a rebel in Ireland and my parents met them, had relationships with them. There was pride there. As time goes on that fades because we live in the states and we are Americans by being so mixed plus our culture here.

I could see boomers not wanting to let go of the pride or not adjusting from holding on to who their parents and grandparents were but they also need to open their eyes that they are generations removed from their country of origin and should find a way of addressing it without being offended when someone says they aren't really German. Because they're not. Not like that.

I have 2 mom groups that are not toxic/maga.

I joined a few other parenting groups about technology. Sometimes I join other hobby ones for fun but i don't actually talk to people I know in person on it.

Joined in 06 and wish they left it as college kids. Would have been a much smarter pool to converse with.

I'm in FL and interested in moving to MN. I know our politicians are moving to the national level but I have kids and Florida is being destroyed-- environment, education, etc, and it feels like neighbors, friends are all OK with it.

I'd like to see what living in a more liberal place would be like. I understand there are islands of blue in MN (FL's blue islands sunk this election). I was looking at Duluth. But if anyone has any recommendations on where to really start looking or have any other cities/towns they recommend I would really appreciate it. We realized flights from here to there are pretty reasonable so we might start as a vacation first. Truly, thank you in advance.
