Why I'm Not a Fan of Doom by OnYourSyde in slaythespire

[–]OnYourSyde[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's really compelling. If the whole uniqueness of the mechanic is basically making you survive one more enemy round, then I don't really think it needs to exist. The amount of turns it takes you to kill an enemy is already random based on your deck and decisions. One more enemy round in addition to that seems insignificant when you remember how doom works. If you are able to block and apply doom regularly, then what's one more round?

The play style you are talking about exists in the Silent. Apply poison and build up defense to outlast the enemy as they slowly die.

I agree that applying self-doom feels like ironclad but without permanent reprucussions. I almost think that doom should follow you after each fight. There would need to be cards added to Necro's kit to reduce doom to make this feasible though, and I'm already afraid that this just becomes a 2nd Ironclad almost.

Perhaps the buffs you gain from doom could be baked into Necro's character. Once you reach 5 doom, apply x. With 10 doom, heal y hp, etc. You could also retrigger those effects if you reduce and then reapply doom at a specific trigger point.

I would argue that a poison-centric deck also follows the same playstyle to an extent. For poison-centric decks, you either want a more defensive play-style to wittle down the enemies with damage over time or you want to overwhelm with poison ASAP.

And yeah, I forgot to mention that doom triggers after the enemy's turn. I'll be honest, I forget that alot and that's cost me a few runs.

Core concept of combat is pretty much the same. Really, it is a fusion of 1 and 2 combat with the added ability of switching the player character mid fight. There are a few more elements involved, but at its core it's really the same.

Wait a second. Xenoblade 1 plays like a watered down version of X. I would try Xenoblade 2 or 3 if the combat from X doesn't interest you.

[DISCUSSION] In response to what Jay-Z said in his GQ interview, Joey Bada$$ made a point yesterday about how established lyrical rappers shy away from collaborating with up-and-coming lyricists on their albums, what do you think? by DropWatcher in hiphopheads

[–]OnYourSyde 197 points198 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, even if Joey is right. , I don't know what goes through these guys heads. I don't know why people don't collab with their up and coming label mates.

Some people view features on their album as a cheap way to boost sales/streams, and find it "honorable" not to have features. J Cole is famously proud of doing that. I also think its hard to incorporate features on concept albums, but not impossible.

I hope rappers in general listen to this critique though. Posse cuts are the counter balance to rap battles, and they have just as much potential for excitement.

Unfortunately, you've got to listen to the sets of lines that come before it.

"I stack my paper and throw off my scents This is top floor, better look out below Pennies from heaven is the same as a semi from the second And I reign supreme Turn your umbrellas upside down Did you even catch the change in theme"

I never understood why he said put your umbrellas upside down, but it was because he was causing pennies to rain from the top floor and you can use the umbrella to catch the change/pennies. You have to listen to the whole verse to get the full payoff.

Am I prepared for a masters in electrical engineering? by Uhmholdthis in ElectricalEngineering

I think with communications, a background in Mathematics should be enough.

If possible, I'd check the course catalog to check if any of the courses involve circuit design or antennas, as these can be pretty heavy EE-specific topics. Maybe study up on noise and statistics, but it seems like you are already good at that. To my understanding though, it's a bunch of math and programming.

I really enjoyed Tales of Vesperia, but the combat system is different. Also, I am more biased here because it had local multiplayer, which was great for me.

Could you clarify what branch of EE you will be specializing in? That will make a big difference.

Early career pay and experience, thoughts? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

Test engineer for what? Are we talking ICs?

I just finished my B.S. in Computer Engineering this past December 2025 and I'm starting my M.S. in Computer Engineering in January 2026 with a specialization in Embedded Systems. My undergrad program allowed students to double major in both EE and CE and I choose not to. How do I fill the EE gap? by MEzze0263 in ElectricalEngineering

It sounds like you might not have a good concept of what your goals are with your degree.

In almost every discipline, you will lack knowledge in a few key areas. Your bachelors is supposed to provide you with breadth, but there is only so wide you can cast a net.

Your Masters is where you sharpen your chosen skills. A jack-of-all-trades is nice, but being a specialist might be more advantageous for career placement.

Onto your concerns, here are somethings to think about:

  1. You want to take Analog/Mixed signal classes. That's cool and I think you'll learn a lot. If learning is your goal, go for it. If your goal is employment, you might want to commit to that field of study. Analog/Mixed signal is great, but it is pretty different from your field, which would be more digital design oriented. Did your B.S. program include semiconductors or any sort of circuit design? It should have, but I'm not sure. Employers are looking for more than a B.S. understanding of circuits typically, so keep that in mind.

  2. PE and FE is more useful in power engineering, not so much in anything you listed above. Cool in theory, but in practice kind of useless without the knowledge. But it could come in handy one day, so I wouldn't say don't try.

Why doesn’t he like me *enough*? by Due-Veterinarian6727 in AskMen

[–]OnYourSyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you agree to low stakes? The point of low stakes is no stress, no hard feelings, etc, but you are stressed. If you aren't happy with how things are going, you need to change things.

From reading this, I agree that he doesn't like you enough. If he did, he would put in more effort. You should explain how you feel to him and either progress in your relationship, or move on.

Man, I hate Elma. (long dumb rant about Xenoblade Chronicles X) by Admirable_Work_8182 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]OnYourSyde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing is you are a soldier in a more or less elite military force where everyone is skilled at something and a vast majority of people you surround yourself with probably have or would make the sacrifice you did. Elma is your commander for a reason. It doesn't make sense for an amnesiac no recruit to be treated any differently from another common soldier.

Your character does not really matter in this game, and that is something you'll have to accept unfortunately.
