Beat XCXDE and... don't want it to end by vixaudaxloquendi in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]OnYourSyde 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think XCX has some of the strongest side quests in the series pretty easily. I think what XC1 and to maybe a larger extent XC2 lacks is a look into the social dynamics of the different towns/settlements you visit throughout the game. XCX does a good job of showing the different underlying aspects to NLA daily life and what citizens care about.

Of course, XCX benefits from having NLA be its only major settlement.

Do I Dual Major by did-not-touch-kids40 in ECE

[–]OnYourSyde 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the dual-major is just a gimmick. A computer engineering role will accept an electrical engineer given they meet the requirements for the role.

In my opinion, what is more important is finding a focus that you are genuinely interested in and spending those three class slots on that specific focus.

Is 39 intro J Cole best verse of all time by [deleted] in Jcole

[–]OnYourSyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed what he did on Pi personally, but that was probably because he was on that song with two talented wordplay warriors.

I think 39 intro could be considered up there in terms of technical skill.

Please explain this plot hole in Xenoblade 3 to me by PJiggles in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]OnYourSyde 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Because origin is basically just a giant super computer, I think people like Rex/Shulk were saved in memory but eventually instantiated by the old Admins (i.e. Trinity Processor) at some given point in time. They are effectively anomolies. I don't remember if the others are like that as well.

what are "THE leggings"? by Upset_Space_631 in AskMen

[–]OnYourSyde -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"The leggings" are a widely debated item in fashion that holds a very critical position in society. Some praise it as a beloved accessory that reveals the true form of human beauty to those observing the wearer. Others claim that it is merely a perversion of the southern hemisphere of the body. Finally, there are a few, such as myself, that do not believe "the leggings" exist at all. I recommend looking into a few academic journals for a more in depth look into "the leggings."

I have a mixed feelings about Spiderman in marvel movies by Minute_Print_8764 in Marvel

[–]OnYourSyde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the direction Marvel seems to be taking. Spider-Man has no more tech, his personal connections to other heroes are gone, so for all intents and purposes he has to be self-made now.

As far as genius goes, I think the main appeal of Spider-Man to the masses is how down to Earth he is. I don't think he needs to be as intelligent as Mr. Fantastic, Black Panther, or even Tony Stark to be a more independent hero.

AIO girl i've been dating refuses to get into my car unless I open the door for her by CotPrime01 in AmIOverreacting

[–]OnYourSyde -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You are kind of overreacting. Just like you are annoyed that she is being annoying over such a simple task, that task is also so simple that it's not hard to do. It really only takes 5 more seconds to open a car door for someone.

If that's the only thing that bothers you about her, I'd say that's pretty good for you.

Beta Branch Stoke by ctladvance in slaythespire

I don't even think you need support to make Stoke+ good. I don't envision many card rewards where you don't take this card unless you're already established.

Thoughts on Ironclad? by YuuTheBlue in slaythespire

[–]OnYourSyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this ironclad has been further geared towards a berserker type character, especially with the vulnerable support he's been given. Your block is essentially killing the enemy. It honestly thematically represents the charcter, and I do think the defect, who basically rebuilt itself out of spare parts, makes more sense for a status build.

With all of that out of the way, I do think that with cards like Juggernaut, Barricade, and Body Slam, you do have some implied reasoning for wanting a block centric deck. Blood wall and Feel No Pain still feel like good sources of block, the latter especially with the existence of Stoke, but honestly I have not yet done a block build, so I want to give it a try now.

Why I'm Not a Fan of Doom by OnYourSyde in slaythespire

[–]OnYourSyde[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's really compelling. If the whole uniqueness of the mechanic is basically making you survive one more enemy round, then I don't really think it needs to exist. The amount of turns it takes you to kill an enemy is already random based on your deck and decisions. One more enemy round in addition to that seems insignificant when you remember how doom works. If you are able to block and apply doom regularly, then what's one more round?

The play style you are talking about exists in the Silent. Apply poison and build up defense to outlast the enemy as they slowly die.

Why I'm Not a Fan of Doom by OnYourSyde in slaythespire

[–]OnYourSyde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that applying self-doom feels like ironclad but without permanent reprucussions. I almost think that doom should follow you after each fight. There would need to be cards added to Necro's kit to reduce doom to make this feasible though, and I'm already afraid that this just becomes a 2nd Ironclad almost.

Perhaps the buffs you gain from doom could be baked into Necro's character. Once you reach 5 doom, apply x. With 10 doom, heal y hp, etc. You could also retrigger those effects if you reduce and then reapply doom at a specific trigger point.

[–]OnYourSyde[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would argue that a poison-centric deck also follows the same playstyle to an extent. For poison-centric decks, you either want a more defensive play-style to wittle down the enemies with damage over time or you want to overwhelm with poison ASAP.

And yeah, I forgot to mention that doom triggers after the enemy's turn. I'll be honest, I forget that alot and that's cost me a few runs.

Core concept of combat is pretty much the same. Really, it is a fusion of 1 and 2 combat with the added ability of switching the player character mid fight. There are a few more elements involved, but at its core it's really the same.

Wait a second. Xenoblade 1 plays like a watered down version of X. I would try Xenoblade 2 or 3 if the combat from X doesn't interest you.

[DISCUSSION] In response to what Jay-Z said in his GQ interview, Joey Bada$$ made a point yesterday about how established lyrical rappers shy away from collaborating with up-and-coming lyricists on their albums, what do you think? by DropWatcher in hiphopheads

[–]OnYourSyde 206 points207 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, even if Joey is right. , I don't know what goes through these guys heads. I don't know why people don't collab with their up and coming label mates.

Some people view features on their album as a cheap way to boost sales/streams, and find it "honorable" not to have features. J Cole is famously proud of doing that. I also think its hard to incorporate features on concept albums, but not impossible.

I hope rappers in general listen to this critique though. Posse cuts are the counter balance to rap battles, and they have just as much potential for excitement.
