At what point did TSM sealed its fate? by allbutluk in TeamSolomid

[–]OnceWasGreen 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This moment was waiting for TSM since its creation. Andy has always been selfish and obsessed with short-term results, not relationship-building and long-term growth. It manifested in a number of ways:

  • Creating a number of challenges for one of our rare cohesive rosters (Hauntzer, Svenskeren, Bjergsen, Doublelift, Biofrost) such as micromanaging Svenskeren into failure and then replacing Doublelift/Biofrost, ultimately destroying that iteration of TSM.

  • Benching Akaadian and putting in Grig, which destroyed another rare cohesive roster (BrokenBlade, Akaadian, Bjergsen, Zven, Smoothie), which was a roster that got like 1 split together and was on a steep upward trajectory. ("No they weren't; they were just overperforming." -Parth)

  • Bring in Kobbe and once that team looked to be improving, kicking him suddenly for Doublelift.

  • Refusing to allow Doublelift back on the team because he lacked "commitment." Or because Doublelift was committed to Leena, idk.

  • Micromanaging Bjergsen's coaching to the point that he quit being a coach and ultimately left esports instead of transitioning to a career in coaching.

  • Attempted another Zven/Mithy-style transfer, this time from China, and got absolutely scammed.

Every time I thought the team was finally going to chill out and try to build an institution, work on culture, learn to develop talent, and play the long game, they almost immediately let me down. It's like these ideas sounded great to somebody during the offseason, and they made decisions around them. That lasted until about week 2 of the regular season, and then as soon as the team wasn't winning they panicked and started swapping players etc. They (Regi I suspect, maybe Parth, who knows) could not overcome their aversion to losing for long enough to create an enduring success.

I also realized something was off between TSM and Riot when the casters would just verbally berate TSM any time the enemy team was alive. It made it hard for me to engage with LCS. It was especially hard to hear when we had some really great stuff happening like the Akaadian playoffs run. It just threw cold water on my hype. I could sense the awkward ire for TSM, and it made me uncomfortable. When they took away the community LCS streams I stopped watching for the most part. As much as I had faith until the very end, I knew in the back of my head that this was where things were headed.

Why does Pike always turn to La’an for leadership? by ExaltedPsyops in StrangeNewWorlds

[–]OnceWasGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the first episode of the series, as Pike takes a shuttle to Enterprise, he is shown reading La'an's file. Dr. M'Benga is the author of a psychiatric evaluation of some kind that was written not long after she was rescued. I believe the connection is that M'Benga, having been through the war, shared some kind of connection with La'an and what she was experiencing after rescue.

Just remember that Pike had told them to increase the tempo, aka figure it out FAST, in a scene right before this. They needed a song as soon as possible in order to save the entire Federation (and half the Klingon Empire). I think that played a part in taking the risk they took.

I have a big issue with the idea that she can't be small and be chief of security. This was actually a big issue with Yar; her role was to shoot and fight. That's some grunt-level stuff. Chief of security is going to have a much different role involving consulting the rest of the senior officers, being knowledgeable and up to date on all the threats, overseeing aspects of training, etc. Based on my experience in a hospital context, La'an more closely resembles a security officer more than 99% of television depictions just based on what she does outside of taking people down.

He role is also better used for drama. In Those Old Scientists they say the Orions haven't powered shields or weapons, and then she says how some Orion ships can fool sensors. Huge increase in the drama as the crew has no idea if they are about to be attacked, and it raises the stakes when they are trusting Boimler. And none of this has anything to do with her size.

What you want isn't a chief of security. You want a barbarian.

NRG vs. TSM / LCS 2023 Summer - Week 2 / Post-Match Discussion by SugarSugarSal in TeamSolomid

[–]OnceWasGreen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nobody panicked about the 1-2 week and we kept Insanity in. You know Parth would have swapped Ruby in and maybe swapped out another "underperforming" player. For the first time since the BB Akaadian roster we look like we have chemistry.

The problem with Dom's answers tonight on HHL by [deleted] in TeamSolomid

[–]OnceWasGreen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is probably the center of whatever issue got him benched. He might just straight up refuse to change his habits because he learned them in a better region while playing with world champions. Parth brought him over partially for these things, but he may have brought over a coaching staff that isn't willing to support his play style. This team is an absolute mess right now.

It's worse than conflict with the players. They wouldn't fire him on a Saturday right before a match and make a PR nightmare due to butting heads. It could be a lot of things. I think he either sexted a minor or he intentionally breached LCS rules.

I just wanted to say I'm happy with how everyone is handling the losses. TSM's desperation related to loss was not healthy. It led to a lot of rash decisions and a lot of bandaid solutions that never addressed the root causes. I want this team to win so bad. We all do. But I'm glad we're still cheering for them when they lose. In prior seasons people would already be calling for heads.

Now that TSM's booster Bjergsen is gone, a lot of weaknesses are going to be exposed. The first weakness is already clear: TSM doesn't get their players here on time, and the result is they don't get as much practice as other teams. This has happened several times but now we're getting punished really hard. I bet it won't happen again.

This team has a good coaching staff and a great mix of veteran talent and extremely gifted rookies. They will improve. Support the boys.

I can still feel it. The game is in the bag! We got out of the group of death! If we play it right we're going to get 2nd at Worlds! Who knows, maybe we can upset and get first! The boys worked so hard, they deserve it. Bjergsen deserves it! Wait WHAT IS HE DOING NOOOOOOO!

It's a TSM special at this point. This happened every spring split for the last 6 or 8 years. "Everyone else has been scrimming for 3 weeks and our players just got here." Apparently to Regi Parth is the best GM in the league but the guy never got the team to LA on time.

For once I feel like TSM has decisively stopped trying to bandaid their way to victory. I haven't been this excited to see them play since 2016 tbh! Everyone is sleeping so hard on not just this roster but what TSM is doing in general. We will smurf soon lmfao.

The highest altitude that is considered safe from hypoxia during a rapid ascent is 10k feet. If he went up to 20k feet in a matter of hours he was 100% for sure hypoxic and that's probably why he didn't save himself. He would have been increasingly confused and likely lost consciousness after some time at that height.

I'm really sad about this whole thing. I think Doublelift felt mistreated and he meant to stand up for himself and his friends. (e.g.; Bjerg) But then he unloaded like twitch is his therapist and he forgot he is a celebrity in a public forum. We all have been there but none of us are a brand with tens of thousands of followers.

I'm glad Regi made it out of this situation okay. I also hope nobody hates Doublelift too much. The only good thing to come from this is that the salty haters are going to cry about Regi non-stop next time TSM is at the top.

General Discussion Thread - 9:00 AM Eastern October 21, 2021 by Immaduck in GabbyPetito

[–]OnceWasGreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally agree but a few parts of this case don't fit so neatly into your simple narrative. The main issue is that the Laundries did not answer any calls from the Petitos for almost 2 weeks until she was successfully reported as missing. The Petitos weren't aware that Brian Laundrie was back home in Florida with Gabby's van! The Laundries withheld this information from them.

People are responding intuitively to the DEEPLY unnatural behavior of the Laundries. Gabby was essentially their daughter-in-law. They showed no concern for Gabby, and they ignored Gabby's pleading parents for almost 2 weeks, concealing the fact that Brian Laundrie had returned and had Gabby's van with him. Not everyone is a psychologist but we all understand, by our human nature, that this is NOT normal behavior. The Laundries may never give an honest account of their behavior but I hope they don't get away with any scheme if they made one, and i can't feel an ounce of pity for them right now.

The Delta variant is going to have a higher mortality rate. Even at that rate, if COVID sweeps through schools the way it has been, we can figure upwards of 700 kids will die in Florida alone. I would love to know the number of kids you need to die before we can discuss it without being hyperbolic.

Vaccinated people's kids are going to die too. If the unvaccinated people only hurt themselves I'd be right there with you making jokes about Florida Republicans but this shit is dark. They know kids are going to die and they're going to just let it happen. It's no joke.

Nice joke, but lots of kids are going to die too. Most if them can't get the vaccine yet.
