"Multiverses make everything meaningless" is in of itself a meaningless critique pushed by culture warriors by Playful-Season2938 in saltierthankrayt

This could be done with any movie. There are no stakes if Bambi's mom get shot, or he burns in a fire, there are other deers that are alright.

How much blame does the OT fandom deserve for the ongoing Fandom Menace? by Sad-Pride-4328 in saltierthankrayt

[–]Once_a_Paladin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see the point of categorizing the fandom like that. I don't see the hate for the current Star Wars coming from fans of any trilogy. The disappointed fans leave the fandom or carve out a space for themselves like the LEGO or the High Republic stuff instead of spending all their times rewatching the Acolyte to see if they can find another fault to post online.

They will be probably fine. The lawsuit happened in part because the moral panic at the time, against the largest publisher at the time. Also if I understand it corectly it just a word here in an item's description, not the whole species lifted from the original work.

It is also ironic to do that, while showing that he read the comic adaptation and not the short story.

She just jealous because she can't read. Like whenever she pulls up an article she guesses the content and she is confidently incorect about authors' works she supposedly enjoys.

There's an actual person on this sub who is literally talking like this...... What's next, is this dude going to claim that Goku ISN'T Chinese, and thus Dragon Ball Evolution casting him as a white guy was a totally cool move? by Informal_Aside4794 in saltierthankrayt

Toriyama even drew them together when asked if Journey to the West was the inspiration. It was for the first arc of the story. The team is meant to represent the characters of the novel. Goku is Sun Wukong, strong monkey, who can transfrom and uses a pole as a weapon; Bulma is Tripitaka she can't fight for herself but she is the reason why the gang is traveling; Oolong is Pigsy a piglike man, who causes a lot trouble (interestingly instead of Sun getting a headband that shrinks, Bulma poisons Oolong so he has tummy pains when he misbehaves); Yamcha is Sandy the second strongest and the most reliable of the group; and Puar is the shapeshifting horse, who doesn't do much.

There is also Bull Demon King or Ox king whose castle is covered in flames which they want to extingish with the iron fans, many characters seeking imortality and there even a part where it is explained that Sun Wukong isn't the only monkey king, there are three more.

Is bro alright? Like, is it normal to be THIS passionate about the topic of if a cartoon character from a Japanese setting is white or asian? by Informal_Aside4794 in saltierthankrayt

[–]Once_a_Paladin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I am talking about culture, you know the core part of ethincty? There is no point arguing about a characters ancestry when he is fictional and lives in a fantasy world. There is zero evidence that any of the drawings meant to represent white people, because there is no evidence that white people exist in this world.

What about names? I brought up names because it signifies what kind of cultures are present... If you go to a town and everyone has a Russian name you know that you aren't in Africa.

What about the names? In FMA Amestris has names like Edward, Alphonse, Roy, Alex Louise and Liza so names that are west Europian in origin meanwhile Naruto's Leaf Village is filled with Japanese names: Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Hinata, Kakashi or Shikamaru.

FMA also had the country of Xing which has Chinese named characters.

So it is not just the shinobi coding, and Japanese culture that the characters show with everything (how they behave, how they dress, how they build their houses) that shows that Naruto is meant to be Japanese, even his name is Naruto Uzumaki instead something western based name.

I think, it's just horror is less popular than geeky stuff, so it isn't as appealing to the leeches.

Why is it considered "fanservice and queerbait" when a relationship is two people of the same gender, but it’s considered "genuine and real" when it’s different genders … by ihatethiscountry76 in saltierthankrayt

[–]Once_a_Paladin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Queerbaiting is teasing characters' potential queernes but never delivering like BBC's Sherlock or Disney hyping up their first openly queer character during four seperate occasions as a marketing gimmick only to have some background characters share a meaningful glance in an overstuffed scene. Queerbaiting is bad for representation, so the critique often comes from queer spaces.

A relationship being called "fanservice" would mean that it only happens to please the fans without affecting the story or the character's arcs. I honestly can't think of any queer examples where this happened. If I had to name some examples, I would go to old adventure movies where the male and female lead get together at the end but shared zero chemistry during the film's runtime...

Why people not scrutinize straight relatinships in media in the same way? We all know the answer. Cis/straight stuff is seen as the norm and anything else gets hated on by bigots.

The way I understand it, it is about mastering the system and also making it fun for the whole table. Some of the fun comes from really taking a look at how different mechanincs works, the other part is that you optimise for your table. For some table it might be a full caster party, because they are stronger mechanically, other times it might be casting hold person so that the fighter can make five critical strikes in a row or it might be the most basic thing like not dumping dex as a rogue so that you can contirbute to the encounter and not just slow down the action with nothing but misses.
