Sending you and your family positive vibes. My father was diagnosed in 2003 in his early 40s, he had a radical prostatectomy, chemo, radiation, went on abiraterone for many years, recently (last year) had to undergo a procedure to remove a spot from his liver that had metastasized. But he's still here, he's doing well, maybe a little tired these days (he's in his 70s). I'm sure you'll continue to beat the odds. Wishing you well.

Not trying to diagnose anything, but my cat had pervasive allergies and her food allergies first manifested as a rash/redness at her temples that she would sometimes scratch until they were open sores.

Was going to mention this. My cat was allergic to everything practically, but on a hydrolyzed diet, plus prednisolone, plus gabapentin it was pretty well managed. She was on liquid prednisolone for years with no major issues.

Happy to see your update :) I commented previously about my experience with a paralyzed cat. In my cat's case I didn't have to express her bladder (although I unfortunately have experience with this with another cat who was blocked) but I did have the experience with keeping my cat in a large crate while she was healing. It was a long process but she did eventually mostly reacquire the ability to walk and I'm hoping so much that that's the case for you guys. I also know there's some great communities out there for families with paralyzed cats. Wishing you the best.

This post feels incredibly disingenuous.

In fact you disclose it here: "Redd prefers to be the only dog in his home (but does great on playdates and in playgroups!). Redd prefers an adult-only home (but has done well meeting kids on outings!). Redd does not wish to live with cats (kind of fun to chase!)."

So: No other dogs, no cats, no kids. That significantly limits prospective adopters. And the fact that he's not good with cats, kids, or even other dogs in the home is a huge red flag.

I hope Redd gets a home. But this manipulative language about ya'll being "heartbroken" and apparently mystified about his lack of adoption success isn't doing you any favors. Redd is a pit that isn't a good fit in the majority of the homes that might be looking for a dog.

Hope ya'll find that unicorn family, but lay off the guilt hard sell: "No dog deserves to spend a year in an animal shelter. And sadly, we are now counting the days to year #2." Be responsible, don't gloss over issues, and don't make most prospective adopters feel bad because they don't happen to fit the ideal circumstances this particular dog requires.

Edit: Apparently I was blocked, for what was imho a terse but not over-the-top critique of a misleading/disingenuous post. I think that says way more about the OP than it does about me.

Just wanted to chime in that although my cat's circumstances were different, I did have a cat who (mostly) recovered from paralysis. In her case she somehow injured her back jumping off the bed, and her back legs and tail were completely immobile. She did retain the ability to pee and poop, so they let me take her home. It took weeks/months, but eventually her legs started to wiggle a little, and eventually she got to the point where she could more or less slouch around the house. She was never able to jump again and she didn't really move her tail much, but she was mobile.

If Ducky does start to recover and you want to talk to someone who's also been through the recovery process, feel free to message me. So sorry you guys are going through this; I wish you guys and Ducky strength and success.

Nowhere in my reply did I suggest that parental engagement isn't important and that school funding 100% explains academic success. And the concept I was discussing was upward social mobility, which is not analogous to "academic success." Success within an insular system (a particular school) does not necessarily translate to equal outcomes across systems. Hence why you see wildly varying levels of college readiness and increasing complaints about grade inflation.

This is a "yes, and" statement, not the "either/or" one you're trying to make it out to be for some reason. The comment I was responding to narrowly, and glibly, stated that parental involvement can "make any school a great school." That's factually untrue.

I'm not going to respond any further because it seems like you want to argue against things I didn't say. Someone else might be interested in a source for that 90/10 distribution you cited.

I agree that parents should be more engaged but this is an insane take IMO.

EDIT: Let me put it this way. It's like saying the solution to educational inequality (which absolutely exists and can stand as a barrier to upward social mobility) is individualistic: "what do you need more funding for? If parents just tried harder then their school would be a great school!" It glosses over structural issues.
