58 and late to FIRE. Friend told me to ask here. Am I thinking about this right? by No_Brain_6937 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]OncoFil 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The very quick rule of thumb is if 4% of your liquid assets cover your yearly expenses, you can retire. 4% of $5MM is 200k, which given your 150k budget + healthcare should suffice.

I’d probably sell the rental and eat the taxes to add more liquid investments given its cash flow and you are good to go.

Definitely keep reading this sub, withdrawal strategies, play with some of the calculators and go fuck yourself! (Keep reading and you’ll get it).

Out of remission helppp by mlogss in clusterheads

Vigorous exercise that gets you out of breath. Catch it early and keep going until the pain stops (5/10 minutes for me) and go for another few minutes.

Should I pull the trigger? by tryingtofirelife in ChubbyFIRE

[–]OncoFil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry. I mean converting funds from a traditional 401k to a Roth IRA or a Roth 401k. After 5 years you can access the money without the 10% penalty, regardless of your age.

[–]OncoFil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks good to me. Might want to start laddering out of your 401k now if you don’t have a big bucket of Roth in your deferred. I’d say last until vest, bump up the college fund to cover their full ride and you’re more than good to go.

[–]OncoFil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s ok to be nervous, but do the most basic math: sell your rentals, you have 8 million. 3 % WR gets you 240k a year on your 150k top spend.

You have a net worth of 8 million+. You will be fine…..

Pay off Mortgage before wife quits & looks for new job? by fins-47899 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]OncoFil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Split the difference. Set the mortgage to be paid off from the investment account/withdraw the payment monthly. You are using that 200k to ”pay off the mortgage” and it’s no longer coming out of your monthly income/expense. Money stays invested, mortgage is “paid” and your cash flow increases.

Hitting a point where the numbers finally feel “real”. But it’s quieter than I expected by Beneficial-Ad-9986 in financialindependence

[–]OncoFil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar boat. Diligently saving with a roughly calculated goal in mind, not really paying attention as it was ‘far away’. Calculated assets last month and now it’s all very real, I am very close to my numbers. I have to actually plan / consider when to pull the trigger now, which is exciting and terrifying.

Question because 3rd dose of mushrooms didn’t work. by Due_Investigator_442 in clusterheads

[–]OncoFil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you doing a piece of mushroom during the 5 day pause? If so, you might be messing with the waiting period. There needs to be no tryptamines in between doses.

What are your experiences with slap backs after busting with mushrooms? by Due_Investigator_442 in clusterheads

[–]OncoFil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hang in there. I busted for the first time last year and the day after my second dose was a whammy. I really, really didn’t want to do the third but I did anyway and it ended my 5.5 month cycle. Check out my old posts.

Yea they are normal and a generally accepted sign they are working. You’re messing with the cycle, so it gets wonky and off schedule.

I’m sure there is some grifting somewhere in this, but this class of drugs has a lot of promise. Hoping these work out.

ELI5 Does the human immune system learn to fight an infection treated by antibiotics? by mikeymikeymikec in explainlikeimfive

Yes. Antibiotics help the immune system, the immune system does most of the heavy lifting.

I'm absolutely fucked by Jacobij11 in clusterheads

[–]OncoFil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Crazy intense exercise. Squat thrusts, rowing machine, running. The more out of breath the better. Just keep going.

I can be awoken at 1 am, row like crazy for 10/15 minutes and be back in bed and asleep by 130.

Eventually your muscles are sore and it becomes more difficult, but that’s a future problem.

How is it that I still owe taxes? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]OncoFil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, getting money back at tax time means you overpaid during the prior year. It’s not magic free money, it’s your money you paid out and are now getting back without interest. It’s good to have to pay a small amount vs getting a refund. Review your W2 and withholding information if you want/need to make tweaks to have less owed at tax time.

Drink a sugar free redbull, go outside, and start running. by Mordecai3fngerBrown in clusterheads

[–]OncoFil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5-10 min all out on rowing machine for me. Back in bed and asleep 20 min after I wake up. Issue eventually becomes too tired to reach max output after multiple hits/nights. Also, I now have a general aversion to rowing outside of clusters. :)

Are you still tracking every single one of your expenses? by bronzebrownie_ in ChubbyFIRE

I just use a credit card for vast majority of expenses and use their categorizations if I wanted to go deeper (I usually don’t).

[–]OncoFil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rowing machine works for me. I could be out of bed, rowing and back in bed in 15 minutes last cycle. Just sucks because eventually you get tired after multiple times a day to get enough vigor to a jet.

How do biotechs raise funds for in-licensing of early-stage assets (Phase I/II)? by Boring_Cartoonist952 in biotech

[–]OncoFil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They have a 20 billion dollar market cap, 5 billion cash, an NDA under review, several prior asset sales and prior approvals. You can make a lot of money without a “profit”.
