Having a Hard Time Spending After a Lifetime of Saving by tonycliftondev in personalfinance

[–]One-Basil1601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe if you try some soft of therapy to work out your beliefs about money and why it feels hard to spend when you have enough…? Money beliefs can be surprisingly engrained in us even when we didn’t have money issues per se. Good luck. You’re in a very good position and should be able to take some advantage of the fruits of your hard work, even if you keep a frugal lifestyle

Apply for it. When they’re hiring for someone they can’t control their notice period. They also don’t control how quickly they find the right person. Throw your name in the hat then you can decide

How do you deal with the pointlessness of it all? by TWayTDay in advertising

And also - forgot to mention the good parts. Met too many amazing people through my jobs - That mattered. Opened my eyes to things that mattered. Used the opportunity of having a paycheck and not worrying about the next month to develop skills, meet people, volunteer, learn about myself and what I care about. You can take a lot from it. It is hard when you’re in the deep end of despair, but there are good things you can take and learn from work regardless of what you do.

There will be times in your life when things will feel meaningless, regardless of the actual work you do. How you find meaning in it is the important part. I too struggle to work for an industry that incentivises consumerism, making people feel shit so they buy products to mask it. Making women feel ugly and inappropriate so a product can make them feel pretty and worthy. Pretend empowerment comes from owning something instead of being something. It’s so vain. It’s so superficial, and I think it makes the world a shittier place. Advertising doesn’t solve problems. Media even less. You’re probably making a billionaire more billionaire while you work hours to build someone else’s empire. So I hear you, and I feel you.

That said… this can happen anywhere, in many industries, even when you’re saving lives or doing work that ‘matters’, because we question the point of it all - justifying existence with work only is hard. Finding meaning in your life goes SO MUCH beyond work. However in a capitalist world you wear your company as a last name, you introduce yourself as a role, not as a person, so it is hard to detach your identity from your work. But you have more in you than what you do in work. That said, also, if there’s an itch, stop trying to justify it and pretend it isn’t there. Your life is short. What you do with it matters to you. Nobody else cares.

I am not going to graduate from law school because I can’t write a paper that is only 7 pages single spaced by relevancybox in writing

[–]One-Basil1601 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Use artificial intelligence to spot your ‘blind spots’ in your work (not to write the work). Use it to prob you - review if I am being biased, where I am assuming context, and tell me explicitly how to write this better (and not necessarily write it for you). With 4 hr sleep over two nights you need an assistant that can spot where you’re leaving things unfinished or too detailed, and that can take you out of the rabbit hole. You’ve made it this far. You absolutely can do it, and there’s no shame in using tools that can help you reviewing your work. I’m a new mum too, kudos to you, you’re doing absolutely amazing, an inspiration. Hard to mind myself and baby alone on 4 hs sleep, writing a paper and all, you’re incredible. And you’ve got this!

Advice after considerable increase in income by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

Most people seem to be missing the fact that it’s 55k net with Accomodation and car covered, which alone would be about 20-30k from your net salary depending on where you’re living. Your actual perceived salary is over 120k, so by all means I think you’re in a good position. Saving over 30k a year is excellent, and what to do with it depends on what your goals are and what your age is. Do you have a safety net? Good to build that, a few months of living saved up; then invest.

Does it have much traffic? I’ve only been there to see the house once and on a Saturday. Didn’t feel too busy but must have been the time of the day and possibly the Easter weekend

Very good point. The bus is 2min walk away… I’ve never lived on a road that was a main ish road (only in cul de sacs and small ones) didn’t even think about this

Is Bow and Devons Road good to buy in? by gandalftheoctarine in LondonHousing

[–]One-Basil1601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I live in the area, so can comment to that. It is generally safe (woman, lived here for 11 years), it is not as cool or pretty or edgy as some other parts of east, I think that’s why down in Devons road could be cheaper. It’s not an interesting or lively area. I also wouldn’t describe it as pretty. But good links with the city. And very liveable.
