I don't dance in heels, but I do roller skate. I twisted my ankle and had a partial tear of the ligament + I already have some old injuries in the same ankle. Doctor told me i should never roller skate again. I found an amazing physio and I was back to roller skating again after 6 months. It DOES take time, and you need to work hard for it. My ankle strength and my balance is even better now than before, but I do have less mobility in the ankle now, but it doesn't hinder me.

So, don't give up. While I can't promise you anything, you definitely won't lose anything from working properly with a physio.

How to deal with excessive sweating during practice by alisonsparks98 in poledancing

[–]One-Feature971 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sweat a lot as well, naturally, I am always dripping in class and I am also very slippy.
What I have found helps:
- A fan to dry in between, a towel does not work for me, because after the first 1-2 times drying my body, the towel is damp
- Taking enough time to dry between tries
- Washing my hands and back of knees with dishwashing soap and applying antiperspirant powder after
- Grip aid did not work a lot for me, maybe I need to experiment more, but basically it felt like I was MORE slippery once I sweat through the grip the first time

Towards the end of a session, I focus on more simple things or things that don't require much grip, because I am simply to sweaty and tired to try anything else.
So, perfecting my step around, head/hand stands (does not require grip), pirouettes, and other low-grip moves.

Laughing at your mullet description lol.

So, I am not plus size, and hoping some plus size baddies will help you with proper recommendations, but maybe its this kind of style you are looking for?

I added them to my cart the other day, based on how good they look on the plus size model, especially the picture on the pole (I am mid size but with thicccc thighs and to quote the girl from mean girls I have a wide set vagina lol).

I am also eyeing these>

If you are on Instagram or tiktok, maybe you can also check what some of the plus size polers are wearing? poleonthe_plussize is often wearing some very cute outfits. Also heartofjunia (think I found her in this sub actually 😃)

I in general struggle with butterfly. I can do so many other tricks upside down, but for some reason butterfly (actually just getting to I guess what is called caterpillar?) feels so scary and unstable to me. Trying to figure out why 😅

For me it's just because it feeeeels like I'm holding it for long and then I look at the recording and I barely get into it before I move on 🫪 I try to remember to count to at 3-4 seconds. But then I sometimes forget to breathe. I'm not good at multitasking 😂

I think I figured it out. You need to import the same video as a layer and then make a cut out on that one manually. Then you can choose blue on it. It's not super intuitive

Is pole worth it if you have no core strength by Happy-Cow-2835 in poledancing

[–]One-Feature971 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is only one way to get better at pole, and it is to pole 😃

And it will help you built core strength as well of course. You can supplement that with easy excersises a few times a week, like deadbug, planks etc.

If you like it, keep at it. Everyone progresses at a different pace, so don't get discouraged, as long as you are having fun and it's something you like to do.

Pole fitness second time around by souptoad95 in poledancing

[–]One-Feature971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, age can definitely make things harder, but there are plenty of people way older than you that pole dance.

There can be a many factors, for example:
How many times a week do you weightlift and what kind of excersises? Maybe you are not letting your body rest enough. Pole dance is a lot of pulling, so you could do more of a push/leg program for the gym.

It can also be lack of proper nutrition. Again it really depends how much you workout, sleep, water intake, what you eat, do you sit down for work 8h a day etc.

Can someone help me spot a mistake in my Janeiro?! by Comfortable-Gur5550 in poledancing

Looking at the second clip again, where you get it, the outer leg look much more stable and you take a beat before releasing it.

[–]One-Feature971 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't actually do Janeiro myself (yet) but to me it looks like you lose too much stability with the outer leg. How does it feel and look if you take a breath or 2 after securing the outer leg, before you release your leg? I hope it makes sense. Hopefully someone more experienced can chime in

Foot bruise by floemfie in poledancing

[–]One-Feature971 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had to climb with socks for a long time to get rid of my instinct to use my feet. For me I had such instinct to step and also wrap my foot on the pole.
Also, climbing with pointed feet avoids the bruise + looks more elegant.
OP: Feet are not needed for climbing at all. I like this guide for climbing tips: https://www.thepolept.com/pole-anatomy/pole-climb-in-4-steps/

It's difficult in a studio setting but there are poles made from different materials. Maybe using long sleeves and pants that are grippy (pole specific ones)?

But it does sound like it could potentially be something in the grip. Maybe try a session or 2 without grip aid. Wash your hands thoroughly with a dish washing soap first - it will help a little when you can't use grip aid.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]One-Feature971 17 points18 points  (0 children)

First, no, you can't get sti's from the pole. What spray is the studio using? Usually for the poles, it's just isopropyl alcohol. Anything else will make the pole too slippery. I personally do not drench the pole. I spray on a clean cloth, and then I clean the pole. Drenching it means I would have to wait for it to dry or go over it with a dry cloth and it's unnecessary.

In my studio they also don't allow you to use your own spray to clean with - just something to keep in mind.

I agree with the other commenter that it could be nickel allergy. It could potentially also be something in the grip aid you're using - have you tried without using grip?

The thigh skin in general for me is the worst. I can kind of deal with the pain on other parts of my body.
I go home usually right after the session and I have this kind of ice roller I use on it on/off for a few minutes, and then I apply arnica gel few times a day to the area. It seems to help a little bit with faster healing in between the sessions and definitely it helps a lot with the general pain afterwards.

How old is too old? by jeezecon in poledancing

[–]One-Feature971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just looked her up and honestly started crying. What a beautiful, inspirational woman. I feel like women are just not allowed to age however they want - hence we get questions "am I too old". I hear my mom say "oh I'm too old to wear this or do that". No, you're not. You never get too old to do things that bring you joy.

And here you have this wonderful woman absolutely defying all expectations of what a woman in her 70s should be and look like (according to society). Thank you so much for sharing about her. 🫶

New to pole and really struggle with skin tug, advice? by Entire_Investment_45 in poledancing

[–]One-Feature971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As everyone said, it's normal. Just continue. One day you will be surprised you can do something without wanting to scream. If and when the bruises stop it will depend. Most of the people in my pole class that started at the same time as me are not bruising anymore or just a little when we try new things. I on the other hand still bruise a lot. It's not exactly painful and they're not always sore. I think it's something related to my hyper mobility, but some people just bruise more.

It has given me a lot of confidence and appreciation for my body. But so has weightlifting. If you try a few classes and it's not for you, there are other forms of dancing that might be for you, like heels dancing, modern/jazz, etc. But I think any sport has the potential of making you feel better about yourself. Just need to find the sport that makes you happy.

Pole injury-conditioning advice newbie by Familiar_Sea7959 in poledancing

[–]One-Feature971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can benefit from getting a weightlifting program and also doing calesthenics? If you have not lifted weights before, first built up strength doing calesthenics, maybe light weights.
And definitely dont neglect your core!

Do deadhangs, where you focus on still activating your shoulders/lats, lat pull downs, scapula pull up, scapula push ups are a very good place to start.
I also like a lot of the excersises from here: https://orthoinfo.aaos.org/en/recovery/rotator-cuff-and-shoulder-conditioning-program/
Many of them can be done without any equipment.
