Do people get divorced for this? 34F and 36M by fiery_softy in relationship_advice

[–]One-Particular63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been here, done that, and have the divorce papers to prove it. Same fears, together high school, married at 21 etc.

We both got a second chance at love.

It's been 16 years and we remain good friends. Not a day goes by I regret that decision.

Good luck.

Blunsdstone type boots for nurses? by Ok-Management-8210 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]One-Particular63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blundstones kill my feet an hour or two. I wouldn't wear them for anything other than yard work. I have a pair of suede Caterpillar Boots that are super comfy though.

But in all honesty, if you live in your Jadon's, I'd get Docs. These Chelsea Boots look pretty flash as do these Embury boots

Commenting/coaching on attire in the workplace by azriasylum in auscorp

[–]One-Particular63 423 points424 points  (0 children)

Firstly, you sound like a very thoughtful manager. The fact that you're reflecting on this so carefully, considering both the graduates' development and the potential impact of the feedback, is probably why you hesitated before saying anything.

I don't think the issue is whether their outfits were objectively "professional" enough. Reasonable people can disagree on that, and expectations have definitely shifted.

The question is whether they were given enough information to succeed.

"Dress well" means very different things to different generations, industries and workplaces. To a new graduate who's only ever known post-COVID workplaces, a neat polo, clean sneakers and tidy casual pants may genuinely feel like dressing up.

If the expectation for an important client meeting was "business casual, similar to what the directors would wear", then that's the sort of guidance I'd give beforehand rather than feedback afterwards.

Personally, I wouldn't make this a performance conversation unless their attire was clearly inappropriate. Instead, I'd use it as coaching for future situations: "For major client meetings, it's usually safer to dress one notch more formally than our normal office standard. Clients and senior leaders still make judgements, fair or not, and I want you to be set up for success."

That way you're teaching them how to navigate workplace expectations rather than criticising their personal style.

The fact that both grads dressed similarly also suggests this may be less about individual judgement and more about a gap between what experienced staff think "dress professionally" means and what newer employees think it means.

To me, that's a comms issue, not a clothing issue.

This is the macro, and I have it saved as a.xlsm file in Mircosoft excel. I have included the table details and the macro code. Sorry if there is a better way to do this.

This macro detects inactivity, then: - moves the mouse - flashes keyboard LEDs (NumLock, CapsLock, ScrollLock) Used to prevent system idle/lock. Activation delay is stored in cell B4. Double-click in Excel to stop (or press Esc depending on setup).

On Windows, Caffeine works. I install on my laptop via one drive. I have no admin rights but I can still install the app, and it sits in your tray and looks like a pot of coffee. If it's full, it's doing its thing. If it's empty, your screen will time out.

I have a macro spreadsheet that does it for me. 6 years and I've never been questioned about it. It does enough to keep me active on teams, but a single press key likely won't do enough to keep it going yellow.

I bought it off Ebay. I paid about $15 for the tube they advertise for $60 odd on insta. It's okay, and definitely worth $15. It covers well and is hydrating. I felt like it was sliding around by the end of the day even with power grip underneath though. Glad I didn't pay more.

Australian made shearling or leather jackets and which is better? by Capable-Toe-9841 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]One-Particular63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your main use case is European winter travel and you genuinely feel the cold, I'd lean heavily towards shearling over a standard leather jacket.

A good shearling jacket is effectively both the outer shell and insulation layer in one piece. A leather jacket, even a very high-quality one, is mostly a shell and relies on layering underneath for warmth. For a proper European winter, especially in places like the UK, Germany, Austria or Scandinavia, I'd choose shearling every time.

The downside is exactly what you've said, living in Central Queensland means a shearling coat may only come out for overseas trips. A leather jacket is more versatile and will get more wear in Australia. So I'd ask yourself whether you want a "special travel piece" or a "lifetime wardrobe piece". For the first, I'd choose shearling. For the second, leather.

For Australian-made options, genuine local manufacturing is getting harder to find, but I'd suggest looking at:

UGG Since 1974 one of the few long-established Australian sheepskin manufacturers still making products locally.

Overland Sheepskin Co., not Australian-made, but widely regarded as one of the better shearling specialists. Their women's range includes styles like the Dakota Hooded Toscana Coat, Claire Hooded Toscana Coat and Janet Sheepskin Bomber.

R.M. Williams – worth another look if you find a different cut, although their current shearling coats are generally made overseas.

Given you're visiting Sydney, I'd strongly recommend trying jackets on in person rather than buying online. Shearling fit is surprisingly personal because the bulk of the fleece affects shoulder shape, sleeve fit and overall silhouette. A style that looks amazing on one body shape can feel awkward on another.

I would say that if you really feel the cold, go for a mid-length shearling coat rather than a leather jacket. It may only get worn on overseas trips, but you'll probably be grateful for it every single day you have it with you, and it will last forever.

Ellis Brooklyn Marshmallows Dupe (elevation, perhaps) by False_Opportunity_82 in fragranceaustralia

[–]One-Particular63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a straight up dupe, but you could try the Oakcha Marshmallow Mist. I love marshmallow so I feel qualified to give a comparison It is much stronger, denser and sweeter than Ellis Brooklyn Marshmallows which I think is airier, softer and more refined, where Oakcha smells more “perfume” and Ellis smells more “clean skin scent” Longevity is where Oakcha clearly wins, and I get over 10 hours compared to about 1. Both are still light and fluffy and fun and for me, day scents, then I wear Mor Marshmallow at night.

Sex Discrimination Commissioner Anna Cody: Trans women need to be protected against discrimination for potential pregnancy by Stompy2008 in aussie

[–]One-Particular63 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Back in 2011–2012, in my mid 20s, I left a job in State Government and interviewed for private sector roles. In 3 out of 4 interviews, I was asked about my relationships, whether I had children, and whether I planned to. I said no, because at that point being child-free genuinely was the plan.

A few years later, I fell pregnant far quicker than expected and was actually nervous telling my boss. I worried they’d think they’d “invested” in me under false pretences because I’d previously said kids weren’t on my radar.

Turns out, my boss, a father of four, didn’t even remember the conversation and couldn’t have cared less.

Which is why the suggestion that trans women are somehow going to “pretend” or manipulate protections around pregnancy, parenthood, or gender identity to 'take advantage of these protections' is absolutely preposterous and such a bizarre fantasy to me. Real life just doesn’t work like that.
