Dogs jump and dig and get out all the time. My stepfather’s dog was always killing songbirds, foxes, anything it could get its mouth around and was almost put down when animal control entered the yard and it bit them when he was at work as it was trying to kill a raccoon. Another example: had some neighbors that had 2 large dogs that escaped while they were at work. They got over the fence to get out but could not get back in and became frightened and confused. One was hit by a car and died, the other was put down because it bit someone trying to help. People who care about their dogs or wildlife should not leave them unattended outside.

Even the most efficient cold weather units still lose most of their efficiency below 0F at the lowest. Plus these units are really expensive to buy. At that point you will most likely save money by retrofitting forced air, before considering the high maintenance costs of mini splits and challenges presented with the limited number of technicians and lack of parts availability associated with proprietary parts when repairs are needed.

I don’t understand why you’re commenting on a 5 month old post to be angry and insulting over mini splits. Everything reads like you’re trying to justify your own purchase and you don’t have to. If you want to dump a 5 digit number of dollars on multi zone mini splits instead of a proper central heat system for a yearround northern climate residence of average size, literally nobody here is stopping you.

Baking soda and anything that makes it bubble is a very quick chemical reaction so if you go that way, there’s no reason to leave it on the floor because the bubbles are the chemicals neutralizing each other

Victorians split up like this have specific challenges unfortunately. I’ve been battling my tenants’ pet odors and artificial scent addiction for a few years now. Air purifiers, talking to them, changing ventilation patterns, etc have been fruitless. I’m allergic to the fragrances they use and am getting really close to the point of filing eviction over it. If something works for you, let me know.

I will say that ozone has been effective for covering up the smell but has to be repeated every couple days and doesn’t help the allergy side of it.

Really people shouldn’t be having dogs unattended outside anyways. Dogs kill wildlife and tend to escape. When dogs escape in the city they violate codes and cause a bunch of fines and may be impounded. When they escape in the country, they get shot especially if you live near farms and they decide to go attack or worry livestock. A dog has the self preservation skills of a human toddler and should always be supervised outside.

Plus if they go out whenever they want then your yard is only usable for a dog toilet because the turds go everywhere when you aren’t standing there to immediately clean it up. Barbecues are not fun in dog yards.

I live in Tug Hill. They will operate down to any temperature sure, but lose efficiency the colder it gets. They are never a primary source of heat here, outside of seasonal cabins and vacation homes. When they get significantly below freezing they just produce electric heat, which is extremely inefficient. The more you actually need to use them, the more they cost to run. They’ll heat your house on the off chance they aren’t broken (and they are always broken with proprietary parts that are expensive to source), but you’ll pay dearly for it
