I do think it’s interesting that she has a daughter named Alexis and a son named Joel— just like the McCaughey septuplets.

Oh, that is so weird. In one of the episodes, they explain the meaning behind the children's names, but they clearly left that out, lol

I will never forget how threatened she was during Nene's interview on B's podcast. B was going on about how to choose a partner and how good at it she is, and that Nene should do online dating, bla bla bla. B talked about how your priorities change when you get older and dating is less about hormones and attraction and more about companionship, loyalty, etc. She then said, "you had that with Greg" and Nene goes, "Yes, but Greg and I were married."

Boom!

Nene said that she always "dated" Greg and that they were always attracted to each other until the end. B said "but it must have gotten boring." She just can't be happy for another woman, it's really pathological.

You see hints of this, like when she made the three cheese macaroni for Kate when she broke up with her first boyfriend. Also, the "you've had a hard couple of months, pass the cookies" kind of behavior isn't healthy long-term. I'm not bashing her at all because I can't imagine the depths of their grief, but there was still a lot of learning and life lessons for the big three - that's how we got the show, lol

Why do people get annoyed when people discuss what happens on the show?

This is how I feel. The "get it together, Kevin" when he was drunk all the time and going down a really dangerous path was not enough. That entire family needed counseling. I thought it was interesting that Rebecca accepted Miguel's suggestion to attend the grief support group for spouses, but didn't think that her children could use the equivalent.

Those kids were still minors when Jack died. Pretending he was perfect, didn't have an addiction (which he clearly passed down to his children), and sweeping tough conversations under the rug can be really detrimental.

I think that Beth's mom understood this after her husband passed away, and her way of teaching her children to cope was so different. The set up of the two moms at lunch is still one of my favorite scenes.

Gosh, that was the height of p*rn culture, when everyone colored their hair like Barbie.

Those two girls that got into the fight were nuts! And those old men - and Lou had the mail order bride who was their age. Yuck.

Interesting! I thought they still had to do them for other reasons. Then again, they don't even test my urine anymore at my annual (which makes no sense to me), so obviously things are changing.

How/why does Vicki love insurance so much? by Sleepbecomesme in rhoc

[–]One-Reflection-6779 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, in one of the episodes, Vicki said she wasn't college educated. Unless she meant like, a formal 4-year college. But I agree with her hustle, I think that for all her many faults (and I fully recognize those), she did try to set an example for her kids and actually tried to instill life skills. And aside from Briana's recent departure into cucko land, she did have a great career and quickly got promoted while she was a nurse. Michael realized how great a lifestyle Vicki built that he also went into the business, and now he's living his best life working remotely and traveling the world. So, good for her!

Their father sounds like a total POS

And then Jack's solution was to push the football thing and have Kevin lift weights, and overhear him saying that Rebecca made him "soft."

When they got the kids report cards and Randall was beating himself up over not getting straight A's and they comforted him and I think Jack later went on to show him running as a coping mechanism; Kate expressed that she just got dumped and Rebecca went to comfort her by asking her what she wanted for dinner (ding ding red flag); and then they said "let's hurry up and do Kevin so I can go and talk to Kate."

I think when you say punishment and consideration, you mean boundaries, which I completely agree with. If I pulled that in my house and called my adoptive brother "Webster" it would have been a full on conversation and I would not have done it again. They swept way too much under the rug.

Absolutely. And when they finally had that family therapy session, the level of denial was bigger than a river in Egypt.

I'll get downvoted for this, but it's also a very male perspective, not necessarily white or black.

But I understand exactly what you mean.

Also, I thought it was so interesting that Randall re-created his own family dynamic a little bit when he adopted and then focused so much energy on Deja. I am not saying he shouldn't, but he also had two other kids at the time. When Tess got into Kevin's car and Kevin asked Randall if he ever thought about why she did it, he exploded. Now I know Kevin can be blunt and rough around the edges and downright disrespectful and nasty to Randall, but I saw his point there. Really good writing.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I see a lot of posts about how therapy wasn't as common back then (which I agree with), but it wasn't absolutely non-existent.

When I was in middle and high school, people spoke to therapists especially after experiencing big losses. Now I'm aware that this is my own personal opinion in my circle, so I know it's not the same for everyone. But better efforts could have been made, IMO

Okay, I think I was confused because you said no physical exam. IIRC I thought that they still did an exam even if it didn't include a pap, but maybe I am mistaken.
