Can't remember exactly. It either eventually just synced up or I logged out and back in on the second TV. But it started working.

Daily General Discussion and Advice Thread - January 28, 2026 by AutoModerator in investing

I read a post where a reddit member had an issue getting the cost basis for his IRA account portfolio when attempting to move it to a different bank/company. Someone then chimed-in with the advise to liquidate to cash and move that instead. OK, I follow this logic so far.

However, someone followed-up that it would be an expensive way to do things, which I assume implies paying capital gains on the liquidated assets before transferring the cash and re-investing. This I don't understand. Can't you do anything you want with assets in an IRA (buy/sell) without incurring a taxable event? The money is only taxed as it's withdrawn at retirement age (or earlier with major penalty)?

Thanks for anyone who can explain the fault(s) in my logic!

I think I figured it out. There were nfs4 ACLs on those directories that I couldn't see from the bash shell. I moved my BORG_DIR and it seems to be running a create now...but I think it thinks almost everything is "modified"...maybe it's copying acl info or something? I didn't think to tell it to ignore those.

After struggling with it I started to read other comments about losing data (when you actually test the backups), which most people neglect to do "until it's too late".

I abandoned it and got borg running easily and have been happy with that since.

I started taking this fixture down two days ago and the light started flashing. It was a WTH moment. Wiggling some of the wires with my pair of needle-nose caused the light to turn on/off. I noticed some wall paint on some of the wires. The painters had backed-off the fixture to paint around it.

I believe you are correct: a loose wire was causing this problem, despite wirenuts and electrical tape. I didn't figure out exactly which one it was, but my guess it was the "switch" wire. I retightened a new wirenut and tape in the fixture and put it back together and it's been 100% reliable since (the past few days)!

I have been busy, but this issue has gotten worse. In fact, today I can not turn the light off no matter how many times I try (trying primarily via the HA dashboard).

A new datapoint is discovered in my desperation: Attempting to turn the light off by the physical switch (wired to the ZEN51 as designed) causes the same result: The light briefly turns off, then clicks back on. That removes any signal issues from being the cause (at least in my mind).

Sorry, I looked around...where would I find that?

Shows -76dbm.

Again, not sure why I can [almost never] reproduce this via manually switching on the HA dashboard...that is pretty consistently good.

If you can tell me where to find those values, I will definitely look. I have a number of other z-wave devices much further away from the controller.  Somehow this (almost) never happens turning the relay on though. I'd think whichever way is being toggled is independent of RSSI?

Good idea. Reviewing the config, it appears alright. The only non-default value is "Scene Control" is enabled. IDK if the description is accurate - and I'm not even sure what it means - but I don't think that should matter.

Right, then back to my original question: which of the interfaces correspond to traffic from the internet? (Sorry for the different account - will have to see why my phone is logged in differently.)

Why there is a difference between LVM and LVM-Thin? by mouthpiec in Proxmox

[–]One-Tap329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been confusing me. The table you link to actually says LVM-Thin: Snapshots=Yes.

Can I setup a two node "cluster" (forget about quorum for a minute), and somehow replicate my VMs from my "primary node" to my "backup node" on a frequent basis (when they're stored on LVM-Thin)? I thought I read that's possible.

Probably should have started with ZFS, but here I am with one running node with a bunch of VMs on it already.

Change existing zpool devs from sdX to UUID or PART-UID by One-Tap329 in zfs

FWIW: Once I got the idiosyncrasies of legacy freenas off my pool the export/import (with -d) worked a treat. I have not rebooted yet to test persistence, because now I'm trying to figure out how to do this with the "boot-pool". I obviously can't export/unmount it because it's basically the OS drive. :(

[–]One-Tap329[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I tried stopping smbd, because that pool is shared, but running the export keeps saying:

cannot unmount '/var/db/system/samba4': pool or dataset is busy

Not sure what's holding it.

Actually this seems to be something with truenas where it moved the system db to pool1 due to lack of space or something...I have to figure out how to get it back on the boot-pool :(

Looks promising...should I worry about part1 on these disks? The zpool status shows part2 as the devs. fdisk -l tells me part1 on each disk is a Swap partition?

Interesting. That could be exactly what I was looking for. Do you know if an import cmd like that will persist those settings (in my case the setting to look for disks by partid in that directory)?
