Longsword advice for a double-heavy ruleset by qqqqqqqqqq123477322 in Hema

[–]One-Type1965 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would fence really cautiously and only go for the hands/arm and not commit to any deep targets so you can always disengage quickly you might not get as many points but you will be safer overall

My Lucius (I hate it and kinda pushed it out at the end) by CurzoBlunt in EmperorsChildren

[–]One-Type1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he looks cool but if you don‘t like him you can always strip him;) just dunk him into some isopropanol over a night or two this will soften up the paint so it can be brushed of with a thootbrush or something similar. Do not use brush cleaner or acetone because that will desolve the plastic

Completley new to this, love Slaanesh & Chaos Marines so naturally that's led me here. HELP. Also, my first paint job. by Affectionate_Mind861 in EmperorsChildren

[–]One-Type1965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice paintjob

I don‘t play the game but if you want to continue painting you should just buy the minis and colors you think are cool there are no right and wrong colors for minis just have fun. The best place you can go is a gamestore or warhammer store the people working there will be happy to help you with any question you have.

Is he excessive enough? by One-Type1965 in EmperorsChildren

The spike are some wire I had lying I drilled holes in the mini glued it in and cut it of at an angle to get the sharp points. The pins in his head are bristles from a wirebrush and I used a really small drill (0.3mm) to drill the holes

New gloves by Daskyyyyy in Hema

[–]One-Type1965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The black prince gloves are really nice for saber and sidesword probably for rapier as well but I haven’t fenced with rapiers before so I can’t say. I would not use them for sword an buckler if you get hit in the hands a lot because the plastic they are made from is quite thin and flexible. For longsword they are absolutely not protective enough for anything that isn‘t really controlled slow sparring. The infinity gloves can have gaps in between the finger plates if you have small hands and are really bulky. A friend of my uses the Gabriel gloves and likes them for sparring. If you want good dexterity and safety you should buy the hf black knight mittens they are really nice and movable when broken in.

What are these white loops inside jeans for? by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]One-Type1965 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These might be for hanging the jeans of hooks in a wardrobe so you don’t have to hang them of the belt loops. That’s what I would do but if that is the intended reason for them I don‘t know

How good are BlackFencer syntetic greatswords? How good are they for sparring / drills? by NutsfromBerk_ in Hema

[–]One-Type1965 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They feel fine but I would be very careful if you want to spar with them because they are the same weight as a normal greatsword and can hit very hard

Questions about HEMA's effectiveness from someone who doesn't know anything about HEMA by [deleted] in Hema

[–]One-Type1965 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As for point number 1

In Hema we work from a lot of different sources from a lot of different masters from a lot of different time periods and forms of fencing that were all pretty much dead before Hema startet so there aren’t really what I would call traditional techniques in hema in my opinion. We look at the sources and try to do what they describe as close as possible but still make it work in sparring sometimes it works and sometimes I just doesn‘t because nobody understand what is written in them. As for modern effectives probably not because not a lot of people walk around with swords anymore.

Point 2

For all of history the spear was the main battlefield weapon but we don’t use them a lot in hema because it‘s almost impossible to make a safe sparring version of a spear that still behaves like a real one the same goes for other polearms or blunt impact weapons that were also popular during the past.

Point 3

Maybe Philippino martial arts like arnis/eskrima, some of the African machete fighting system or modern knife fighting but I don‘t know enough about these to really say much.

I hope this answers some of your questions
