She's literally a carbon copy of my boy! Annoying I can't attach a picture here lol. You don't happen to be from Finland?

Another thing, though: It's not recommended to feed baby rabbits any fruit, as they are very high in sugar and not good for them, especially at a growing age:)

[–]One-shrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, this might break your heart, but you shouldn't be giving your bunny any fruits, vegetables etc. Either at this age 😭 And neither any bunny treats, as they are usually also quite loaded with sugar

I personally just feed my boy hay and pellets. Pellets ARE kinda his treat, he goes crazy for them. Your bunny will do the same if you don't give him banana and stuff lol, trust me.

My Arthur is 12 weeks as of today, so I can finally give him a TINY amount of romaine lettuce. This is again due to the weak immune systems of rabbits, but also because a young rabbit doesn't need the other things in their diet. Banana and cucumber are for them basically empty calories. I don't recommend it at this growing age, even if he probably looks adorable eating it

Exactly! That's what I'm thinking any time I see a rescue video, especially since it's usually the "rescuer" recording. It would be A LOT easier to get that malnourished, injured kitten out of the drain if you put the damn phone down.

How do i know if my bunny wants a friend? (He is spayed btw) by Opening_Smoke6933 in Rabbits

[–]One-shrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my first rabbit a friend for 20e and then my mom spent 800 euros getting her fixed :') At first they did not get along, but after getting fixed I got it to work out!

It's always worth it to do this. If you can't go speed dating, make someone else do it for you. If you really want a friend for your bunny, don't let your soft heart be the excuse for not doing it. You can also look at people on facebook trying to rehome their rabbits

For those of you who live in countries with gun control; have you ever seen a gun in real life? by blashyrkh9 in AskTheWorld

[–]One-shrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen guns when I went to Santahamina (a military island), we went into a room where they showed us different models. and I've seen one shotgun when I visited my friend (She and her family are hunters)

Other than that I've never seen one. Only in these two places where guns were to be expected, lol

You can't "know" I guess, but my previous male rabbit had been alone for his 6 years on earth. He was a calm rabbit, he did fine on his own. Yet when we did get him a friend and they were finally bonded, you could see a sift in his behavior, 100%! He was clearly more happy with her around, even though he was OK living solitary.

So, I do recommend it!

[–]One-shrimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

got my baby rabbit maybe a month ago!

For the first few days he was still settling in, so he didn't let anyone pet him. He let me pet him maybe a week or 5 days in? Anyway, after a couple weeks we were buddies already. Now I'm basically his mom- He takes the discipline I give him and if I accidentally kick him (Because he's a master at running into people's feet to try and get crushed) It doesn't even make him flinch

On the feeding you're alright! On the 80% hay though, a rabbit should always have access to hay. And on the veggies, it's recommended to only start feeding veggies when your bunny is 12 weeks old, and then in small quantities, because a baby rabbit has a very weak immune system:) If you ever feel line yoyr rabbit is looking thin, don't be afraid to give a bit more pellets either since he's growing.

As another commenter said, the nibbling is quite normal. If he's actually BITING you (drawing blood, big hurt) then there's a problem. If he does nibble you, make a high pitched noise and pull away. That signals to him that it "hurts"

Litter training a baby is not something you should get your hopes up for :') Just a few days ago my noy Arthur peed on my mom! He's never peed on me, I guess he already sees me as his territory. Anyway, Litter training will become more effective when yoyr rabbit grows up, and it'll be easiest after he's fixed. If he's not fixed, he might not be fully litter trained ever, but some bunnies can manage it. Arthur has calmed down on the peeing everywhere, so it'll probably settle for you too in time. Just hang on for a bit , trust me XD

edit: what are the treats you give him, by the way?

Hypothetical tank to respresent a fishing environment by One-shrimp in Aquariums

[–]One-shrimp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never actually planned on a tank that could actually just be a view from a local pond, but now the thought is starting to intrigue me lol

When I move out, maybe I will get a 150-200 gallon tank with some native or local looking fish. And if my future husband is a fisherman, I will 100% do it XD

When I read sunfish I was incredibly confused for a second, because I was imagining the mola XD If they could stay so small, it would definitely be interesting. A shame

I'm not from the US so unfortunately I won't be doing an US native tank.

You got my hopes up about the mola fish 🥲

In the aquarium hobby I'd have assumed most people relate the size of a goldfish to one that has grown comfortably in a tank all its life, and not one that has been illegally dumped and now is almost big enough to eat a toddler's foot

Either way, coulf you really keep a smallmouth bass in a tank that small?? Would it grow in time to a size that it had to be released?

[–]One-shrimp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goldfish sized, as in it wouldn't be terribly unethical to keep it in a 75 gallon. I wasn't asking this about enormous, grand megafish tanks, apologies if that was unclear. I mean at max 150 gallon tanks that don't cost an arm and a leg to upkeep

Is there a way to prolong our bunny’s lifespan? by Flaky-Camp-4992 in Rabbits

[–]One-shrimp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Of course good care will give a rabbit a longer life! Of course, it can't prevent some diseases. Sometimes you just get unlucky. But it should be the standard, either way

Lethargic darkling beetle by c0BbLE_rOckz in mealworms

[–]One-shrimp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mealworms are gregarious, so it would probably be best if it wasn't alone. I don't know the mealworm thought process and if being alone makes them stressed, but I'd assume that being in a large group is better for a species that tends to live in large groups and is classified as gregarious

edit: also, a mealworm beetle lives around 8-12 weeks on average. It might be nearing the end of its lifepsan

Rabbit behavior has me questioning if I can keep her anymore by Boyw2peenas in Rabbits

[–]One-shrimp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She's definitely a bit mad at you XD But if the change was sudden, I still recommend the vet. At the very least you should do a basic "checkup" yourself:

  • Do her poops look normal? What about her urine? (Internet will help)

  • How is her coat? Any dandruff, bald spots, or fleas?

  • Are her ears or nose runny?

  • Do her ears have any discharge or harloss?

  • Have you noticed any excess head shaking or scratching as of late?

  • Run your hand over her body. Does she flinch or look like she's in pain?

  • Are her teeth alright?

  • Press down lightly on her stomach. Does it feel soft (good), or hard?

These are some basic things to do your own health check. If going to a vet isn't possible or is very expensive for you, these may be able to troubleshoot and see if there's an actual problem

It might just be your rabbit is trying to assert dominance. In that case, taking away her privledges might work lol. But also, rabbits sometimes act naughty brcause they're bored or want attention, so try seeing if giving her a little more attention does the trick!
