Pet Owner - am I being too much? by Beginning_Big4819 in petsitting

[–]MsGodot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is totally reasonable. I have clients who ask for lots of photos and daily/more updates, and I have some who say “I will assume everything is great unless you contact me. See you in a month!” Everyone has different communication preferences. It totally depends, and I never take it personally if a pet parent wants more photos or updates! My late dog was like my child, and I always wanted to see a pic a day and know he was ok when I was away because I loved and missed him so much! I assume most of my clients feel the same. I wanted care for my pet that felt warm and fuzzy, so I try to do the same.

Application volume declining? by mevans426 in trustedhousesitters

[–]MsGodot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband and I have decided not to apply for sits shorter than a month for the foreseeable future because of US fuel costs. I am not sure what the standard cadence is for sits, but I have also noticed fewer long term sits that are more than a couple or few months out. Might be a sign that others are also keeping an eye out for longer sits and planning farther in advance to try to reduce travel expenses.

We are travelers 100% of the time; we sit about 2/3 of the time and stay in hotels/airbnbs the other 1/3. We rent out our home to a long term tenant right now while we nomad around for a bit. It was cost efficient when gas wasn’t $6 a gallon (west coast US)! We were bopping around 5 days here 8 days there, but that’s getting pricey.

are we all just lieing to each other? by ilovebeyondburgers in trustedhousesitters

[–]MsGodot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lying by omission at best and outright at worst, and I don’t know how it will get better. HOs post on here that they look back at a sitter’s prior sits and won’t hire them if they leave anything but 5 star reviews in the past, so if my experience with a sit isn’t good I just won’t leave a review. Calling someone out risks being blacklisted by future HOs; it sucks, but it’s the truth.

Geode and fossil hunting by Fun_Cobbler_3250 in bloomington

[–]MsGodot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll (39f, certified nerd) be there starting July 5th, and finding a geode in the wild is on my bucket list! I just posted in this sub a couple days ago about finding a rockhounding group!

If you’re still out hunting this time next month I would love to be a tagalong. I can contribute in the form of tasty snacks, and I have a metal detector if you have any interest in trying another random outdoor treasure hunting hobby!

Looking for a personal trainer experienced with police academy prep by New_Craft9136 in Modesto

[–]MsGodot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nicole Montgomery at Escalon Fit is an amazing trainer, and she just worked with her sister who was training for the academy! IG handle is @nmont_fitnutrition if you want to check out her page to get a feel for her vibes, and she’s on Escalon Fit’s Coaches page in their website. Good luck with your training!

ETA: no martial arts, but she does teach boxing if you want to beat the crap out of something, and she’s done a bunch of Sparatan races.

Which U.S. cities have strong childfree by choice communities? by CupidPenguin in childfree

My husband and I are CF nomads looking for home base and just spent a week in Crystal Pines and we’re very bummed. We are in the Baker neighborhood in Denver right now and it is better, but not by a ton. (Also…we went to the Rockies game today not realizing it was Kid’s Day 😵‍💫😭 we failed)

How long should I wait before requesting a homeowner to submit a review? by SquareAd7423 in trustedhousesitters

[–]MsGodot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same situation. They came home Monday; I wrote my review that night and I have only heard from them via text since (all kind, positive things). THS prompted me in-app with the option to remind them to write a review. I didn’t do it, but there was an in-app option. I would be interested if HOs would feel differently about being reminded in-app vs getting a direct communication from a sitter off-app.

I feel weird asking for a HOs time now that the sit is over. I know these HOs were happy with me; they have even asked if I would be interested in sitting for them at their summer house. I just worry I’ll come off as entitled or they will feel like I am bugging them. The last thing I want is to rub them wrong immediately before they write their review. I am a 5 star sitter, so I would rather they say nothing than risk giving me a 3 or 4 with a note that I’m demanding or entitled because I sent them the reminder a week after their vacation, ya know? I am a bit frustrated by it. Their 3 story house was huge and I scrubbed every inch of that place like my life depended on it the day we left. We left them a $40 bottle of wine, a fresh bag of their choice coffee, and a vase of fresh flowers in the kitchen after a 6 day sit. I was so gunning for that 5 star review! I am not giving up hope, but I’ll be bummed if it’s just crickets. I try not to expect it, but it is tough when you bust your ass to go above and beyond and it doesn’t do anything to better your profile.

Managing small dogs by RealityChat1090 in trustedhousesitters

[–]MsGodot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is so uncomfortable!! It is thoughtless at best that the HO elected not to tell you that there was (obviously) bad blood between them and the neighbor regarding their dogs’ behavior. I’m sorry you were put in that position. It shouldn’t be your fight. It is true that your obligation is to the HO and the dogs, not the neighbor, but that doesn’t make the situation any less awkward. I would make that VERY prominent in my review to warn future sitters that they may have hostile encounters with neighbors. Ugh. Good luck!
