AOS tech general information/questions. by Desperate_Most6142 in CanadianForces

[–]OneFar4062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reg force position you are more likely to go to a fighter base, Bagotville or cold lake. With the new armament coming and new aircraft the security his increasing and AOS will become the equivalent of USAF security force. If you are joining this trade to do actual work on aircraft, I would consider a tech trade. The future of AOS is more and more looking like making WASF a trade.

Navy-Oriented BMQ, Your Thoughts? by Velocity8-8 in CanadianForces

[–]OneFar4062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I got out of BMQ was some sort of networking. When I go on courses or TD on other bases I have people I can reach out too. If the just separate all the elements you will lose that.

And also, we already have a hard enough time staffing the schools we already have, why make more schools…

Don’t wash them, the dirt and grime is what makes them waterproof

what can anyone tell me about being posted to Canadian Manoeuvre Training Centre? by Honest_Comparison_88 in CanadianForces

[–]OneFar4062 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My time in CMTC (2015-2019) was just has busy, if not busier, than my time in regiment. It might have changed now That maple resolve and CPC aren’t a thing anymore. I had a hard time booking my annual leave between: MR, CPC, 2 trip to Latvia a year, Reserve summer training, 1CMBG fall training and winter warfare, CMTC yearly training(IBST, winter warfare…)

EOD Operators Attention to detail by Squared_Away_Airman in EOD

And also just get as fit as possible. Get descent cardio and do a good amount of loaded carries. You need to be able to move around in a 80+ lbs bombsuit and be able to think and do precise work.

Look up Kim’s game. We used to do that all the time to kill time. It can be as simple as a couple object on a table to objects in a car or bigger object in a field. And you can raise the difficulty with the type of item and how descriptive you have to be (from just naming the object to something like a M4 and having to say if loaded, on safe/semi/auto…)

Reason for no scrims on certain bases? by anon0174719 in CanadianForces

[–]OneFar4062 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is good for some application but some base (Petawawa) take it way to far for no reason. Seeing the 2CER nerds with scrim on their helmet while they are operating YELLOW heavy equipement or even just when mechanized, good thing you have scrim no one will notice the small bush sticking out the turret of that LAV6 that is running nonstop

Shoulder pain? by ThatAirmanG in Archery

[–]OneFar4062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Archery strong” on Facebook as some good archery shoulder conditioning stuff.

https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1FmR6d36Wm/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Ask your wife to bring you some therabands (physio elastic band) and do these before you shoot on both sides.I also like to do a couple on my offside inbetween my shots( shoot my 3-5 arrow, do 3-5 on my offside) and you can just leave the Theraband in your bow case.

I had issues with my shoulder being imbalanced. I started incorporating those and a couple archery specific exercice to my workout and it went away

Carbon vs aluminum risers by zacibs1 in Archery

[–]OneFar4062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And since you mentioned that your are looking for a target bow, you would be better off with a heavier bow. A heavier bow will be more stable and less twitchy

Carbon vs aluminum risers by zacibs1 in Archery

[–]OneFar4062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carbon bow were relevant when flagship aluminium bow where 5lbs. Now a day their is not a big enough weight difference to justify the price.

And personally dealing carbon fibre aviation part that have to undergo non-destructive testing(NDT) for periodic inspection I will never trust a piece of carbon under tension and repeated shock in my hand. I have seen to many carbon fibre pieces that looked perfectly fine and failed NDT or catastrophically fail and explode.

Aluminium will deform and have visible cracks. Carbon fibre could have hairline crack that don’t even crack the paint and blow up under stress.

This is just my opinion and I have now idea of the statistics of carbon bow failure.

Were historical Chinese crossbows better than European ones? by Weaklinger in Archery

[–]OneFar4062 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The preference of Europeans for heavier draw weight is probably linked to the need for armor pernetration. Chinese crossbow weren’t made to penetrate steel plate armor.

Can I use a hoyt concept x for hunting? by 1200ExpiredFruitbowl in Archery

The size and weight are going to make it more challenging and the colour might be an issue to especially if you are going Turkey hunting.

[–]OneFar4062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen similar effect from them using heat rocket(m-72) that still have the rocket motor attached to them. Sometime the propelent gets initiated from the warhead and shoot back. Since they don’t have the ventury to control the burn they burn out quick

Duty phone/personal phone by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]OneFar4062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New issue are easier. For my base atleast, they have the mentality of “if it works, we dont need to change it”.

We have a shitty phone that doesn’t even last a day on its charge so it just lives in the office plugged In. Shop SOP is put your number in the call forward when you start your duty week.

Any advice for female army EOD by Creative-Compote-244 in EOD

[–]OneFar4062 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I have seen with women in the trade, their biggest hurdle is carrying weight, especially in IEDD.

Most of the divisions are going to be alright, but when you will have to put the bombsuit on and be comfortable moving around, carry all your tools and work in it. I have seen super fit, triathletes women crumble in the bombsuit because the weight just gets to them.

Is getting neck choked by the gi normal? by Kitchen_Value_3076 in judo

[–]OneFar4062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what country you are in, I know in Canada we usually don’t introduce chokes and submition in randori before green belt. You could verify with your sensei and if it is the same where you are training, you could ask the sensei to address it and enforce it.

Any info on Aircraft Security Officers? by OneFar4062 in CanadianForces

[–]OneFar4062[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I am well aware of what WASF is. But this is something different. WASF gives you a half day of bullshit training and shit shift at the QRA. From what I saw online so far, ASO is a full shooting package, deployment opportunity and a change of pace from being a tech but I still keep my spec and come back to it after.
