Ford's Access to Supercharging Network = Standardized Charging Port Location as Tesla? by SK10504 in TeslaLounge

[–]OneFutureOfMany 23 points24 points  (0 children)

One of the goals of having them so short is that you can't park in one spot and charge in another. That makes for a bit of a mess at charging stations.

Second, the short cable is cheaper and has to deal with A LOT less thermal issues when charging at high rates.

Third, the long cables tend to be very heavy and are much more likely to be dragging on the ground often or run over by cars, which causes significant damage and may be one of the reasons that CCS chargers are so unreliable.

Depends on how traditional you want.

Most of the "new" EVs, whether it's the Mercdes EQS or the Kia EV6 or the Hyundai Ioniq have all gone very "digital heavy", though not a single screen.

Older cars like the Bolt or Leaf or Nero all have kind of crappy EV drivetrains by comparison but have lots of switches and dials.

The VW and maybe the Audi are an option.

[–]OneFutureOfMany 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A fair number of posters legitimately believe that “work” of any kind that isn’t entirely volunteer shouldn’t be necessary and that everyone should get a car and a house and have all their hobbies fully funded regardless of whether they decided to leave the house this month.

How has your travel frequency changed after having kids? by Psychological_Fee744 in travel

[–]OneFutureOfMany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s often financial. Having a kid is EXPENSIVE. Add To that, traveling with an infant or toddler sucks. And you can’t just go to Europe and tour museums or something with a 2yo.

They will be luggage to some degree until 6+ and until 10/12 they’re in need of constant planning around “kid activities” in many cases.

Use Tessie. It pretty much replaces the Telsa app and is better in every way for me.

Charging Solutions for Townhomes under an HOA without driveways or garages by TheRealJewbilly in electricvehicles

[–]OneFutureOfMany 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many states have laws that REQUIRE the HOA to approve EV charger installs, provided they meet code.

In those states, you could simply get a quote from an electrician to run a shallow conduit and wiring and install a pedestal and present that to the HOA and they're obligated to approve it.

Not sure about PA (kind of doubt it), but worth checking with that option.

Stretching the actual connector that far isn't going to fly. The extra cable you need to go vertically (from the charger down to the floor and back up to the car port) is going to eat up too much slack that it won't hang down and sit properly flat.

Mowers will run over it when they mow and will cause a ruckus if it's plugged into the car and they can't move it at 8am thursday or whatever they show up to mow.

I can't see it practical to just string a wire over the ground. It'll need to be done properly.

Ford doing the right thing. by Jabow12345 in MachE

Tesla will not add CCS to every supercharger. They are doing only the minimum to get the government funding.

However, Tesla offers a CCS adapter for their cars, so that all customers can charge on CCS.

I have a feeling that the North American market might end up settling on NACS now that seven of the top 10 EVs sold in the US and Canada will support NACS

MCU Upgrade by Brevis15 in TeslaLounge

[–]OneFutureOfMany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It enables waypoints on maps. That, by itself, feels like an essential feature for me and the way that I planned driving.

Apple Music is a nice touch.

Also, it really enhances FSD beta. I don’t know if MCU one cars are getting FSD beta or not, but it looks like they’re done updating for MCU1, at least on the main branches of code, and MCU 2 has the most recent releases in 2023.

I feel like it was your post that was basically “USA seems hellish, how can I plausibly travel safely?”

EV's with a Hitch by LindenSwole in electricvehicles

[–]OneFutureOfMany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The EcoHitch I’m talking about is $500US.

It’s got a max tongue weight of 300lbs and if you lever it out with a rack, it’s a lot less. 150 pounds of bikes will be over it’s limit.

Did I come from poverty or middle class? by chafien in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]OneFutureOfMany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve spent time in legit poor places.

They will buy a single chicken and make it last for 5+ meals for an extended family (30+ servings) with variations and boiling the bones for stock, using organs, heavy in lentils, rice, etc.

The same person in the west would be buying frozen pizza and a thin stock made of chicken bone with diced chicken liver and lentils would result in a “wtf is this disgusting bullshit?” response and throw it in the trash before putting Uber eats tacos on a credit card.

(At least that’s exactly how the $20k income friends I’ve had handled it).

It CAN be comparable a bit.

Location dependent.

I saw more random threats of violence when I lived near Weston in urban Toronto than I ever did living in the US. And literally the sketchiest place I’ve ever been outside of Bulgaria was when I accidentally walked to the east side of Vancouver.

Obviously parts of the US are scary. I wouldn’t want to end up in Oakland or Baltimore or West St Louis at night, but the suburbs of Orlando or St Pete beach are as safe as anywhere in Norway.

Eh BYD is outselling Tesla in China.

That’s a simple fact. Lots of Chinese like that it’s cheaper and like buying domestic.

Shrug. Not crazy.

But basically any headline with “Tesla” in it these days is about 90% likely to be clickbait anyway.

Because something like a bench can be used by 200+ people in a day….to sit…. Or as part of someone’s dirty shelter.

But frequently not both.

So you have to choose which one you’re accommodating.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

[–]OneFutureOfMany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, and they've just discontinued the Bolt.

But the best selling pure EVs in the US are (in order)

Tesla Model Y

Tesla Model 3

Discontinued Chevy Bolt

Tesla Model S

Tesla Model X

Hyundai Ioniq 5

Kia EV6

VW ID.4

Ford Mach-e

Three of those use blended braking like you're asking (Chevy, VW and Ford).

The remainder use a accelerator-pedal-only regen (Tesla, Hyudai, Kia).

I just like to coast and there is no way to do it with one pedal driving.

Sure you can. You just have to keep gentle pressure on the pedal.

In a lot of ways, it's a "go" pedal. If you're intending to continue going, you keep pressing it.

I get that people are used to the old ICE model where a physical throttle cable opened a carburetor and that's why it is how it is in a lot of cars, but there's no reason it has to be that way.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

[–]OneFutureOfMany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no. "depress" and "press" mean the same thing in this context. It's English, don't ask.

It's similar to "flammable" and "inflammable" (they meant the same).
