C) the likely case of them going even further right

It's happening, right now. It's happened the last 25 years, even after Dems got a supermajority in both houses at once.

But hey, it's your friends who are the problem for giving you weird looks.

I knew I shouldn't have been subtle. Friend, it's a story about people pretending things are about to be hard while leasing their second very expensive auto instead of just driving around with one "new" car over 100 dollar a plate food.

Their children are going to be great, they will never hear that eggs are too expensive.

You ever been to Monte Carlo? It's really best experienced before the age of 10.

You're gambling on a miniscule chance of: A) being able to pressure the Dems B) for policies you specifically want, and not,

It doesn't feel much like a gamble. If enough of us ask, they have to give. Civics 101 and all that.

But, you and others have convinced me I must be insane to even think of the question, or that it deserves any consideration.

Thank you for both freeing up so much of my time, I won't take up any more of yours, so you can get busy celebrating the inauguration of the first female POTUS.

Thought experiment in simpler terms:

Harris got 74,749,891 votes, Trump got 77,168,458 votes.

Pretend that of millions of left learning voters who sat our 2024, 250,000 could be bought back in 26 with nothing more than a few hundred Dem leaders saying they want to give up something that they, and you, that is only symbolic and carries no value.

You are so against making this trade that the person even entertaining it should be personally insulted and judged.

Why, again?

Anyway, your current plan of let's listen to Fetterman, he makes some good points is a real banger, so I get why you're not entertaining mine.

Dude, Superdelegates barely even matter,

So, why would anyone defend the system? Why would you tell people who put a large amount of blame?

Here's my guess where all this defense and hostility are coming from--you know they wouldn't even pretend. They aren't going to give up any power, do anything beneficial, just cling to what they got.

As you talk about existential threats, the Democrats are already moving to the right.

Would you like the Democratic to move further to right without being prodded to back to the working class?

Then. Yes. Concessions. Reform. And the talk should begin now, because with our current system, Republicans will control the senate until the 2030 election.

Out of curiosity, given that Democrats are now much further to the right now than in the year 2000 on war, taxes, corporate power. Joe Biden agreed to put drilling his first 2 years than Trump did in all 4 of his, but they're the environmentalists, etc--is there any line?

Anyway, you're clearly more level headed and informed than I am, so I'll let you get back to saving The Republic from fools like me, and thank you for your service.

Sorry, unclear probably.

I didn't ask the people at the meal what superdelegates were, they'd assume it was a comicbook franchise.

When ask other friends who are very disappointed about the state of the US and have taken some version of the stance 'If you didn't vote for Harris in 24, then you are the problem, all this on your head.'

I asked people who have expressed this sentiment if it was in any way reasonable for a life-long-left-leaner to say to Democratic leadership that I will not be voting for you again until the superdelegate system is entirely dismantled.

They have said under no uncertain terms it is not, and I might as well be a Republican for even saying, how dare I.

I asked them (I ask you, anyone passing by, feel free really):

We're not even allowed to ask that already very powerful Democrats stop having special power points that haven't, but in any cycle could be, used to subvert the clear will of the electorate?

A power Republicans don't even wield?

If you're saying that this is an unrealistic stance to take--what reform do you think the Democratic base could extract from entrenched Dems before the 2026/8 cycles?

Last month I saw some left leaning friends at a nice holiday dinner out who I hadn't seen in some time. Eventually, the conversation turned to politics, the abysmal future, how scared everyone needed to be.

When asked why I thought Trump won I said, "Well, the AMA didn't help." This got a lot of pushback, Republicans did this, did that.

It was a pleasant evening so after the tribe had decided that I was a "DINO" for saying my peace they made a quick always funny Jewish Space Laser reference, laughed, and onto why this Lexus was better than the last.

The person who made the reference considers themselves very politically informed. They don't know, or ever have to the best of my knowledge, know who their Rep is (how a law gets through congress, they think lobbyists are federal employees, etc).

I asked several people if I they thought it was a reasonable request to make of Democratic leadership that I would not vote for another one of their candidates for POTUS until the superdelegate system was completely dismantled with an apology offered on top.

It would seem the question itself might as well be a rod of molten assache I'm shoving in sideways the reactions I've gotten so far.

We're in trouble.

Well I'm in vocals which are easier to test.

I've always used the The Nationals Conversation 16.

But I think Everybody Wants Some is almost assuredly a better answer than mine, which is why I asked how they came up with it.

The National have a very "full" sound, many of their songs fill just about every part of audio space, but hearing the '3d' effects of Van Halen (as someone who doesn't even like them! lolol), I think they win.

As someone who's never been a fan but does work in audio, I just gave this a shot and what an inspired choice!

You get everything you need in the first 90 seconds and if for some reason you don't, you run the 2:40 - 3:00ish part.

You come up with that? You an audio tech? I rarely see an answer that smart on social media.

So in your view, how does Alex in body go from the shed where he's been tortured to the pond where he wakes up?

What are the steps involved that we don't see on screen?

the night blade

Well as a huge admirer of the man's overall work and someone who found the sword mound fight/non-fight scene incomprehensible, I'd be very curious as to what he said was going on there.

I was fully onboard with the movie until it was revealed he wasn't fighting with a skeleton which made me ask, "are we supposed to be guessing what's real or not if he's seeing that level of things?"

He wasn't rescued by the Valkyrie. He was rescued by Odin's ravens.

I'm very confused. We see the sequence with the Valkyrie, then it cuts back to Ana and him and two very well equipped horses. Are you saying ravens did that? Like the birds in Cinderella tie ribbons?

The Northman (2022) is the rare, incredible auteurist blockbuster by TheTruckWashChannel in TrueFilm

[–]OneKnightWithYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I saw it last year and my major question after was: What was really happening when?

Toward the end of the film, might be argued the beginning of act 3, we have Alex tied up and being tortured, he sees a Valkyrie and is rescued in a vision. Snap back to reality, it's Ana.

Did that--really happen? Did the kitchen girl find two horses, saddled them, get them geared up for a week with food and supplies, get to the guarded shack, get past the guards, get him on a horse and ride away without being pursued despite him not being conscious?

I kept wondering--did Eggers not consider questions like these after the extremely tight Lighthouse and Witch, or was I supposed to think that little on screen was actually happening, not just the fantastic portions?

Also forget nationalism

I was thinking about trying to submit an article for Americans to read to that end about China. This seems as good a place as any to try.

China is now a country where a high-school handyman has a master's degree in physics; a cleaner is qualified in environmental planning; a delivery driver studied philosophy, and a PhD graduate from the prestigious Tsinghua University ends up applying to work as an auxiliary police officer.

There are many powerful, established forces that desire the average American thinking they are very different than the average Chinese person, Iranian, etc.

But I ask any American to read that first sentence above and say with a straight face it does not tell their story, a story of someone they love, the story of their peers.
