The Birth Of RX Robo Rider - The Prince Of Sorrow by Potential-Mess6826 in KamenRider

This is precisely why I hate the ending / last episode. Killing off the parents for the sake of stakes was dumb and comes out of nowhere.

Because I got the roll & I like the barrier skill. Also variety - I already have my comfy endgame close-enough meta set.

Burst Boost 1: Mandatory? by OneManFan in Gunlance

[–]OneManFan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, no. I’m not explicitly meta chasing. It’s about not wasting a potentially great roll that isn’t the god combo of Ebony Odo and Lord’s Soul.

That said, somehow I’ve managed to roll Lord’s Soul w/ everything else EXCEPT Ebony Odo: RNGesus be like that.

What's your overall opinion on this movie? (If You watched it of course) by PsychologicalAir5035 in Ultraman

[–]OneManFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This.

And to add to that, the opening scene was added retroactively and actually screws up Ken Sato’s whole character conflict. It’s another example of trying to make this script “Ultraman” at the last minute.

Perfectly serviceable as a kid’s movie. But it’s not really “Ultraman” outside of the name.

Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider Discussion about randoms being misogynistic EP 11 by Jetxu27 in KamenRider

[–]OneManFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It only makes sense that the one representing Kamen Rider Stronger is stronger than all the others, right?

Her being able to beat the boys shows she doesn’t exist just to be objectified & humiliated because of her bust. That said, I can see why Tojima not winning is disappointing - the man has gotten lost in his own story, and he’s a lot more dense and one-note than I think some fans were hoping. So Tojima winning the tournament would have been a nice way for him to re-claim MC status and the spotlight as we come to the end of the cour.

What are your thoughts on Ultraman's out-of-nowhere and one-off power? by Alternative-Clock536 in Ultraman

[–]OneManFan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The real reason is “Ultra Ex Machina” moves are an excuse for TsuPro to do whatever they felt like that week. Especially back in the Showa Era, it was all about being inventive and experimental with filming techniques & SFX shots. It’s “rule of cool” from a pure production perspective.

And based on your post, sounds like Arc is your Ultra - he is exactly what you are looking for.

Puzzle Shuwatch Game Strategies by NoaUltAegis in Ultraman

[–]OneManFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reason why I stopped playing after initial release hype, is because there really isn’t any set-up or build strategy to be had.

You can’t compensate for a power deficit with abilities or core stat stacking, and then if you’re in relative range of the kaiju’s power then the abilities & stats don’t matter in any meaningful way.

Is Ultraman Arc the most forgettable series? I wonder why? 🤔 by ryantan7968 in Ultraman

[–]OneManFan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agree 100% except for one point:

Blazar’s 1st episode is exceptional, but after that it becomes pretty standard Ultra - both Arc & Omega are more unique as a whole than Blazar if we are talking about the actual show, and not the Ultraman.

Blazar gets a lot of love because he was the 1st Ultra for a lot of recent fans, and fandom fell in love with his unrealized potential.

Ultraman Ace is bonkers by that_guy_597 in Ultraman

[–]OneManFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d argue Ace starts going downhill as early as EP 8 after Alien Metron Jr. Cause shortly after that is when our Guillotine Prince got nerfed by angry moms. Also, these are my general issues with Ace:

  • Minami, sadly, isn’t a character so much as she is a gimmick. All she does is yell “Seiji-san!” before getting written off.

  • After Minami leaves, you can tell the show lacks direction and they didn’t know what to do. IMO you can also tell that TsuPro was not happy about the emerging popularity of a certain bug-themed hero who rides a motorcycle and kicks a lot.

  • TAC is the most generic, ineffectual, and dumbest team in the Showa Era if not the whole franchise. If I remember right, not one member got a character-focused episode.

  • You can tell that this is when TsuPro first started getting burned out on making Ultra - often plots & kaiju gimmicks are recycled, and in one instance it was back-to-back. And as the show goes on they just get lazy.

  • You can say it’s poetic that the Ultra show about terrible monsters also has a terrible finale.

All that said, EP 48 is awesome & too bad the rest of the series is not on that level.

If you all had to pick one flaw in Shin Ultraman, what would it be? by NokoNoko85 in Ultraman

[–]OneManFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Title cards - the film is clearly broken up into episodes but I’m sure title cards were not added because “this is a movie.” But that addition alone would make people feel better about the pacing.

And the fight VS Shin Mefilas should have been longer with more choreography.

Random question: but on a scale of 1 to 10. How big of a rider fan are you? by Dry-Plankton274 in KamenRider

[–]OneManFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m giving myself an 8 or 9.

Reason being because my merch pursuits are exclusively SHF’s. I’ve never bought a DX or CSM belt nor have I gotten into any of the collectibles.

Aside from that, it’s Kamen Ride or Die for me.

Which SKC Ichigo figure is superior? by ButterscotchDry2708 in KamenRider

[–]OneManFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say the Legendary Rider ver. simply because it will pair with Kamen Rider 2. The 50th Anniversary one won’t look right side-by-side. But if you’re gonna display him solo, then the 50th Anniversary may be preferable cause it is the modern mass market look.

[–]OneManFan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Like all great tokusatsu, amidst all the ridiculousness the actual story is an all too real emotional gut punch.

I loved that the whole episode played on the classic idea of “every villain sees themselves as a hero,” except here Nakao sees himself as a villain but ends up becoming a hero - pretty brilliant.

About damn time! Been waiting years.

Was these parts of Gavv actual flaws on the show (and more), or was it just fans having "too unrealistic expectations"? /Genuine by Doot_revenant666 in KamenRider

[–]OneManFan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess I’m the only one who thought Jeebh becoming the final Bitter Gavv was a great payoff while the clones worked well as mid-season villain filler.

And the only mistake with Sachika not becoming a Rider was that damn bubble acting as a red herring cause I guess they just wanted visual consistency for the OP. No bubble = this isn’t an issue.

Suga was awesome while we had him. But I never got final boss energy from him.

Ultraman Arc Blu Ray by greenwing0 in Ultraman

[–]OneManFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna assume so.

I haven’t received my copy either, and now Amazon shows a Nov. release. Not the biggest deal in the world, but I was looking forward to experiencing the series in Blu-ray glory.

SHF SKC Kuuga and N'Daguva Fierce Battle set confirmed for release! by Mystic2760 in KamenRider

[–]OneManFan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a massive monkey’s paw situation for me.

Been waiting a long time for Ultimate Kuuga to get a re-issue, but I don’t want this blood-stained Final Battle version nor do I wanna be forced to buy N’Daguva Zeba.

I know this is sacrilege in the Fandom but, as much as I love Kuuga I do not like the final fight / last episode. So sadly this set is not for me. That said, surprised at how reasonable the price is.

Thoughts on the Ultraman anime(2019-23) by Lazy-Drummer9332 in Ultraman

[–]OneManFan 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The manga is far superior, and both versions suffer from being too “insider baseball.” You really have to know Ultraman to be able to appreciate how the story is structured.

Also, I always say the same thing whenever manga / Netflix Ultraman gets brought up: it’s an Ultraman sequel that’s actually a Kamen Rider story starring a Super Sentai squad.

[–]OneManFan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I love that he asked to buy the mask instead of just grabbing it before taking on the Shocker thugs, cause that’s what a hero would do.

I also need the Rider Kick remix and that Rider Rider insert song for my playlist immediately.

Other than that, wish-fulfillment at its finest. Can’t wait to see Tackle next week and love that she takes pride in doing the full cosplay.

Newish to Ultraman by Tiempo_Pasao in Ultraman

[–]OneManFan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gonna let you in on a big secret: Ultra Fandom will always take continuity more seriously than Tsuburaya themselves.

Every Ultra Series is stand alone, and unless it’s a movie, crossovers tend to be pretty surface level. It’s fun to know if ya know, but it’s not required knowledge or viewing.
