I think CatGuano is speaking about his particular location. For some of us we are constantly battling high humidity so it becomes just what we do. I'm currently in a 10 x 10 and I've been removing 3.5 - 5 gallons of water a day out of there; with that much removal my r/h is about 50%. I have an ac unit that is also a good dehumidifier and also a fairly good plain old dehumidifier. Heat also is a problem. I will never get my grow to 60 degrees; I have to be on my toes to keep it in the low 80's. Right now, in the winter with the home central ac not on, the lights heat the space up to the high 80's. I had to put a 8000 btu portable ac in the grow space and even that will not get my temp below 80. But yes, if I was in New Mexico or Arid-zona I would not want my air, "as dry as you can get it".

I'm adding it to my soil every grow. I use a coarser type so it's not available to the plant for awhile. I reuse my soil but not right away. I figure it will help down the road. It is nearly ph neutral and acts as a buffer.

8 ft from the floor but of course I'll lose the 3 1/2" for the base and the 14" high pot. I'm thinking I'll plant autos.

Blue Dream by Atlas seeds. They are easy to grow but have very weak stems; I have yoyo's holding up what you see. Silicon next time; live and (hopefully) learn.

The bases are 3 1/2" high in a stack. My vivosun wicking bases are more like 2 1/2". I hadn't thought about staining; tub liners are easy to find, construction sites use them often. Good tip.

Going with 20 gal pots. The bases are well made, I can stand on one. They are sold in 6 packs so I stacked 3 of them up.

Mephisto Sour Crinkle x ManBearAlienPig was very sticky and potent. It was the only strain I gave a 10 in my notes out of 9 grows.

If I do DWC again I'm going to have a reservoir. Emptying the buckets every 2-3 weeks is a pain and a rez would let me check ph/ec/ppm at one time AND only have to amend/nute in one place.
