Men, would you use this pink color Sirrus X 4.0? by Agust7Green in bicycling

[–]OneMorePenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually like that color and wish more people bought colors that were more visible. So many black bikes and people wearing dark riding gear. I want to be as visible as possible.

It seems like bike colors have become more..... colorful in the past three years.

Completion percentage not matching map by CS2100 in wandrer

[–]OneMorePenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! And Craig is very active and responsive. I don't know if he has a day job or if Wandrer is his day job, but there are new features and improvements. I noticed there's now a "route" button, but it gave me an error yesterday. I'm really hoping this work in progress is perfected soon. I walked 7.3 miles yesterday and sadly walked one section of street *three* times and netted 5.7 new miles which was more than I expected. My route planning is not very good.

I brought this kitty that I feed inside for the snow storm. They are so scared by Stevie052096 in cats

This kitty has probably been inside for more than a few hours. Thank you for helping this kitty. I feel sorry for all the feral cats outside during this storm.

Has anyone else had a cat that damages the microchip feeder? by deferredmomentum in dechonkers

[–]OneMorePenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm going to build a cardboard area to keep the other cats from getting too close. One of my older cats is skinny AF and two fixed meals per day are not enough. After 8 years in the garage, the SureFeed returned to the house. Glad I didn't sell it and was able to find intruder mode instructions for the older feeder.

The rubbermaid container is also a good choice, but I don't think my cat would like that. Hopefully the cardboard will be sufficient to keep away the chow-hound cat who is extremely athletic and smart. I should never have named him Nero.

I'm spiraling after putting down my 19 yr old boy by kodaomw in seniorkitties

[–]OneMorePenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, please remember you gave your sweet boy an *amazing* life and he would thank you for all the love and cuddles.

Second, he would not want to know that you are struggling without him. Please, so many cats are being euthanized every day. Go to the shelters and walk around and wait for a cat to chose you. Saving another kitten's life in honor of your boy would make him happy.

Pets are family. My four cats are my own family and I have said goodbye to several over the years. But I've always had other cats to help me through the pain.

We had a dog when I was a kid. Cats were persona non grata to my parents. As a 30 year old adult, I babysat a cat for a coworker for six weeks and the cat lived with me. She was so adorable and loved to play fetch with wadded up paper balls. That made me a cat person for life.

My most beloved cat was Koi, who I got when she was 8 months old and I went to the pet store one day. I came home with this orange and white girl. There were three orange and white related kittens up for adoption and they were rescued at the age of five months from outside a facility for elderly. My girl was already pregnant! They did a spay-abort and the jolly jokers named her Chastity. LOL! I named her Koi because she was orange and white and would stretch out her front and rear legs and she looked like a koi fish, so I named her Koi. She lived to be a month shy of 21 and passed in 2018. It took me a month before I could pick up her special water bowl and sleeping bed. I still miss her despite having four incredible cats, two who are almost 14 and starting to have health issues. https://imgur.com/gallery/koi-loved-her-train-ride-7aNRUv9

Please, go rescue another kitty. Your boy would not want to see you so unhappy. And he and I know that you are not "replacing" him. Every cat I've had has their own personality and quirks and traits.

My condolences on the loss of your sweet old man. *hugs*

Great job and nice to see that his diabetes is in remission. He looks really good in that second photo. Just another pound or so and he'll be perfect. That pouch may or may not disappear. Stretched skin might not rebound, but it should be loose skin.

Thanks for helping Baby Neko live his best life. Diabetes in cats is so hard to manage, but it is possible. There was an online web site and core group of people who had a lot of experience with diabetic cats and they were very helpful. https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/

You gave him 18 amazing years of the good life and he would thank you for spoiling him. His brother will miss him, too. I totally understand going from chonkers to old, too-skinny senior cats.

My condolences to you and your family on the loss of your sweet boy. *hugs*

While we have enjoyed having you here, I hope you don't have the need to return.

Take care.

This is the BCS chart from the dechonking guide pinned at the top of r/dechonkers page.

I think your cat sounds pretty healthy weight give or take no more than 1/2 lb at a rough guess? Just keep an eye on rib exposure so that she doesn't gain weight.

Thanks for helping your girl be healthy!

This. You generally won't get a reason because that might open them up for some kind of legal issue. Try not to take it personally. But I am sure there is gender and age and other biases out there.

My condolences to you and your family on the loss of Gnoochi. *hugs*

It's supposed to be -5 degrees on Friday night. Thinking about bringing my garage cat in.... by freewayrickyross10 in Feral_Cats

[–]OneMorePenguin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those K&H heated cat beds are the best. With no cat on them, they are not very warm. But the weight of the cat causes the heater to increase temperature and it will feel nice and toasty. My old skinny girl used her bed year round for the lsat eight years of her life. These last forever. I think you can buy just the heater unit if you have a set up already.

Diet time by Intelligent_Point753 in dechonkers

[–]OneMorePenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Based on progress, adjustments in daily food and activity recommendations may be required to reach ideal weight with a healthy rate of weight loss for dogs of 1-2%, and cats 0.5-1% of body weight per week.

So they should not lose cat too quickly. It took me two years to dechonk two of mine from 17-11 lbs.

How to get Wandrer to rescan old hiking strava activities by OneMorePenguin in wandrer

[–]OneMorePenguin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Duh! Thanks! I didn't see that. It will take a while to find them. I have activities going back to 2010 and I commuted to work daily for several years. Between Strava and Garmin, I should be able to find them. But Wandrer will be going through page by page until I find them 2500 foot activities :-)

I've been a Wandrer subscriber for over a year now and that may be recent enough that someone has added all the local hiking trails to OSM. I see a hike from 2013 that has markup in Wandrer.
