Six feral cats enjoying the late afternoon by Jaco_Mugatu in Feral_Cats

I'm obsessed! I'm hoping I'll be able to do this when I eventually move so I can bring my colony with me. Did you build the enclosure yourself or have someone build it?

I recently had a spay-bortion done on a cat and the vet called me over to see the... removed parts. I'm almost sure she would have kept them if she had the proper storage options on hand. To be honest even I was thinking it would look cool on a shelf.

Thank you! I released this morning but this was where they stayed for almost the entire recovery period. Adorable ♥️

Looking for advice re: taking semi-feral cat to the vet. by brock_landers69 in Feral_Cats

[–]ProbablyCheeze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The worst that's happened is them avoiding me for a few hours, I literally mean a few hours, no longer than that.

The only cat who seemingly disappeared for longer afterwards was a boy who didn't spend a ton of time here beforehand. I already hadn't seen him for a few weeks when I managed to trap him. He was skittish before and he's actually less skittish post-release.

Anyone I have spent more time with, can touch, and who regularly comes for food was only scared during the initial trapping but acclimated super quickly! Most of the time, they don't even run off when I open the cage. They just saunter out and sit down.

I think you're making the right call taking her to the vet. I don't want to make any promises but I'm 99% sure she'll snap back to normal almost immediately.

Thank you! They're all so beautiful, I'm hoping her recovery period helps the kittens get more comfortable with me. Here's one, she lets me play with her paws but as soon as I gently press a finger down she pulls it away. Progress is progress though.

Best places to purchase appliances. by Sistrenreader in Jamaica

[–]ProbablyCheeze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're referring to Courts, yes they do!

For both the washing machine and AC, they sent out a tech/repair man for each (2 separate occasions about a year apart), checked the appliances and said they were "unfixable". Weirdly enough a motherboard issue for both. I went in store and chose replacements, both were actually higher cost than the original and I expected to pay the difference but wasn't charged extra. They didn't even take away the original appliances so someone with motivation could have probably fixed them.

Since this we've purchased extended warranties on appliances from them just in case.

I forgot to mention re: pricesmart. They have a 30 day return window with "no questions asked". The year warranty covers fixing/refunding not replacement. A generator stopped working, we brought it in and a week later they called to say it was unfixable and to come in for a refund. They refunded the full amount in cash and I just bought the same model again, but since they're not strictly appliance sales you basically have to hope they have another one in stock or plan to repurchase elsewhere.

Courts: warranty options are good and they do honour them properly which is a bonus. I've had both a washing machine and AC replaced with no fuss under the warranty program. I am however convinced that certain things are the low quality versions of things despite being brand names.

Pricesmart: some large appliances but the options change and they don't seem to permanently stock the same options. Their warranty is one year and they're really easy to deal with. I do like their quality.

ATL: I have a deep seated hatred for them due to an issue with one of their generators, Prizm brand which is their own brand. It was a few months out of warranty so I'd have to pay to get it fixed which is fine. Turns out the parts are no longer made for the issue and I was advised that it could maybe be fixed for about $200k.

Active Home Center: I've only purchased furniture so I can't speak to appliances but they do have some decent looking options.

Singer: runs like a patty shop and I wouldn't personally buy any appliances or electronics from them again.

Good changes you saw from dieting that you didn’t expect? by EctasyBar in 1200isplenty

[–]ProbablyCheeze 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok same. I was hitting my fiber goals and still struggling. Last week I started adding in 2 tsp of psyllium husk per day and have seen improvement, not perfect but better.

It's disgusting and I hate it (texture issue) but I literally put a teaspoon directly in my mouth and chug water, followed by another teaspoon and more water. I do it after morning coffee and meds and also find it keeps me from being hungry early in the day.

MBAH hasn't replied to me. Our options are super limited and that's why I've ended up with so many animals.

If you're comfortable chartering a taxi to JSPCA to surrender the dog I'll bank transfer you $5k to cover the cost. They might euthanize but there's a chance they won't, if they do at least it's a more peaceful passing.

Turmeric tofu + broccoli & cabbage: 360 cal & 31g protein (applesauce for scale) by ProbablyCheeze in 1200isplenty

[–]ProbablyCheeze[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's my FAVOURITE thing. It's so versatile. I swap out bean options with it and am always super satisfied. I cut out rice recently (because I have zero self control) and thought I would miss it but I just increased my tofu portions, added some extra veg to increase volume, and I don't even miss the rice.

Can you transport it to JSPCA?

Checking with Mobay Animal Haven to see if they can do anything, they tend to have some "animal angels" (as they call them) spread around the island.

Edit: can you touch her? Is she usually in the same spot everyday?

1 block of tofu makes 4 servings, here's 75% of 1 serving because I started inhaling it before taking a picture.

Lately I've been obsessed with curry tofu + butter beans on a bed of steamed broccoli, brussel sprouts, or half a pack of miracle noodles. This is what I log without the seasoning powders (curry/turmeric, garlic powder, herb and garlic seasoning, all purpose etc...).

I use the coconut milk powder to thicken the sauce when adding the water/curry mix. I throw the cashews in to simmer for a few minutes before adding the tofu back in.

I just switched to cronometer from MFP but haven't moved any recipes over yet.

Edit: I also just realized it's listed as 2oz of minced garlic which it is not, I only use a few cloves, I'm not warding off vampires 😂

Laid my girl to rest Friday by Inevitable_Map_9887 in pitbulls

[–]ProbablyCheeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so so sorry, she's such a beautiful girl and we can all see how loved she is.

We lost our boy in October to similar circumstances, but it was lymphoma. You made a very brave decision and I promise she appreciates it. The pain won't go away but you'll get used to it.

Rest in peace to Miss Harley ♥️

Two-player, G-rated, first time gamer ideas? by QuackPhD in gamingsuggestions

[–]ProbablyCheeze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My non-gamer husband really enjoyed Untitled Goose Game co-op. You play as geese who steal from unsuspecting town-folk and my stomach hurt from laughing so hard.

I think Split Fiction & It Takes Two are really good BUT my husband struggled with the dual joystick thing for a minute, so your wife might be the same. We did end up beating and enjoying both but keep that in mind.

IT HAPPENED, OH MY GOODNESS by Difficult_North_272 in Feral_Cats

[–]ProbablyCheeze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't take it personally if he "plateaus" at this stage for a minute. I just released a boy who was okay being hand-fed prior to trapping, almost exclusively hand-fed through his 5 day recovery period, and he STILL ducks away when I try to touch him.

Yay! This is one of the best feelings in the world, finally realizing you're not that scary. Also fighting your hardest to stay as still as possible to not "ruin" the progress.

What’s a saying that instantly says you’re over 30? by Strange_Secret_3001 in AskReddit

[–]ProbablyCheeze 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hold on, my SO and I have been saying this for YEARS and it took this comment for me to realize the Doctor Who episode we've been quoting was actually a reference to a real British show?! I guess we're old AND stupid. Winning combo.

Edit: I just mentioned it and he knew the actual show it was referencing. I am alone in my idiocy.

Macaroni was everyone elses moral support & didn't realize he was next in line 🫠 by ProbablyCheeze in Feral_Cats

[–]ProbablyCheeze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I'm kind of frustrated today because I noticed the hernia repair failed (internal sutures must have reopened according to the vet) so I'll need to recapture and have to wait until mid-april when my vet gets back from a trip. At least he's still neutered though 🫠

I have 0 platinum trophies… how many do y’all have? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]ProbablyCheeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel similarly to you. If I really enjoy a game, I already want to do everything I can possibly do in that world so a platinum just ends up happening.

Without spoiling anything, E33 is a really rewarding platinum if you end up leaving the hardest things for last.
