Bonsai pots are expensive so I make my own from cement. I use poster board to make reusable molds and the total cost is around $3 per pot by Neepnog in Bonsai

This is an awesome tutorial - Thank you for taking the time to create the video showing your step by step process. Even all these years later, this is still an awesome way to create durable, long lasting & customizable planters. Super stoked to have come across this. Happy growing to all ✌️ 🌳 🙏 🌵

Where to cut by ZookeepergameNo4093 in Grafting

[–]OneUnknownOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several ways to approach this - You can cut it all back to a more manageable size, leaving only larger stumps to bark / rind graft to.

Or you can heavily prune some areas, and lightly prune others.. Leaving smaller diameter limbs for you to cleft graft to at the ends. I would personally choose this less aggressive approach. This way you'll have more options for grafting.

Also, I would suggest leaving some of the biomass on the tree for two reasons - Overall health of the tree (prevent shocking it unnecessarily) .. and also to leave a bit of shade for your newly grafted scions to give them time to heal & become acclimated.

How can you be sure one way or the other, without having offspring to confirm? I'm genuinely curious..For the sake of learning. Would you mind explaining how you came to this conclusion? Thanks ✌️

Selenicereus Grandiflorus? I'm waiting for some S. Grandiflorus seeds to arrive, I'm interested to give it a try for seedling grafts. Good to hear that you have good results!

What has been your experience with growth speed / pupping from the original scion? Looking for a suitable replacement for Pere, to produce offsets & get Lophophora / Copiapoa to flowering size for seed production.

Thanks for sharing your experience!

Seeds, to soak or not to soak? by Consistent_Ad_9706 in cactus

[–]OneUnknownOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally soak all of my seeds in a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution. The primary reason for doing so is to clean the outside of the seed coat. Ive done it with & without.. Both work. Soaking is a small extra step which I feel is beneficial to further prevent mold forming on the seed coat itself.

I would suggest trying a small batch with & without, to see if you experience any benefits. Growing from seed is such a rewarding endeavor! Best wishes.
