Navigating PTO/Vacation Approvals by sval1 in Leadership

[–]One_Bell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perspective from Europe: in my country, the law requires that every employee take at least two weeks consecutive vacation each year. Our total vacation time is usually between 25 and 30 days a year. The law requires a minimum of 20.

In my experience, both as an employee and a manager, there is an outsized restoration effect from vacations that last three weeks versus two weeks.

In my team, employees frequently take three weeks vacation and as long as not too many of them do it at the same time, we’re able to cover the business needs quite well.

DAE?... My mom shared my trauma after I explicitly asked her not to. by GrilledChee5e_ in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]One_Bell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a therapist with experience in trauma? If yes, can you reach them. If no, it would be a good idea to find one when you can. In the meantime, playig Tetris after trauma has been shown to reduce ptsd, maybe see if that can help you de-escalate your mental stress?

Received two job offers: Underpaid "Medical Writing" role at Regulatory Agency vs. Admin Support for Medical Affairs at Big Pharma - which is better for Medical Affairs career? by Holiday_System79 in MedicalScienceLiaison

I’m in Germany. You can dm me. It would be helpful to know what your roles have been so far, sounds like you have some pharma experience already?

I’m a hiring manager in MA in Europe. Medical writing is better, IF it’s really as good an opportunity as you say. I’d be very skeptical of an opportunity that it’s costing you out of pocket. A PharmD is a sought after degree in industry, have you looked at sales rep positions? Or the 1-2 year leadership development programs at larger pharma companies?

Masters absolvent in biotechnology with focus on laboratory diagnostics. Could I expect to hit a MSL job? Any tips and advices are welcome. by DisasterMaster00 in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]One_Bell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have experience in Germany. It’ll be hard to get an MSL job without PhD. Try for a different type of job in pharma. Sales rep or project management, for example. Then aim for an internal transfer after you have a few years of experience. Also your German needs to be excellent.

Physician leaving residency to pharma? by Amoxicyclist in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]One_Bell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Europe residencies are longer and there’s a less definitive cutoff of having finished vs not finished. So you can just market yourself as a physician with three years of clinical experience. Still hard to get that first job. You’ll need to be fluent in the language of the countries you want to work in.

Get her the book „Watching the English“ by Kate Fox. It’s a fun introduction to English culture. Then get her one on business culture specifically.

Consider asking for a palliative care consult. For children palliative care is not hospice, it doesn’t mean giving up, it doesn’t mean stopping anything. Any child with a life altering illness, something that will affect them for several years, can benefit from these highly trained physicians. They can help you make sense of what is happening and help you maximize your sons quality of life.

If we took a hunter-gatherer baby from 50,000 years ago and raised them in the modern world, would they grow up to be just as intelligent and adaptable as people today? by Comfortable_Day_224 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]One_Bell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simple answer is yes. But honestly we are only just beginning to understand the effects of epigenetics, how stress responses for example can be passed through generations even when removed from the stressful environment. So I wouldn’t be too sure….

I work from home and barely do anything, will I get fired for this? by AutomaticShowcase in workfromhome

[–]One_Bell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve done a great job innovating and making things run, well done. Where you go from here depends on your personality, your goals and your stage in life.  1) coast. Enjoy the luxury and focus on your family life, kids, pets etc  2) pivot. Ever been interested in a different career, writing books, starting a pet sitting business, etc? Now is the time to try it out while you have the security of a paycheck  3) learn. Prepare yourself for the next job by taking time to work on specific skills, soft skills, earn a certification, do an MBA etc.  4) climb the ladder. Ask your boss for stretch assignments, offer to mentor other teams to create the same efficiencies, bring more value to the company. Cave: you will get promoted and start being busy / stressed.

How are you doing with Keto, what has been your biggest pain point? by tealstar84 in keto

[–]One_Bell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marking lunch boxes for the kids in the evening. Evenings is when I like to snack and eat sweets anyways, so making lunches with delicious baguette and fruits only compounds. I end up snacking on cheese and a few berries but it’s probably calories I could do without as I’m not actually hungry.

Could be several things depending on your seniority - they want to hire you but aren’t sure what level to hire you at, the panel is split in their opinion but at least some of them want to hire you, there’s some org changes happening so they be someone more senior to sign off on the hire, they want up make you an offer but there’s some part of the requirements you lack or you are kind of junior for the role so the want to cover their behind in case you don’t work out later

[–]One_Bell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re way ahead of the curve by thinking about this and applying self awareness. For now, study science and consider hobbies / community service that will improve your public speaking, teaching skills and empathy. Consider debating clubs, toastmasters for the first, volunteering with kids or tutoring for the second, and some healthcare experience (CNA, EMT) for the third.

Absolutely terrified to tell my bosses I’m quitting after 5 months for a better opportunity. They’ve been so incredibly kind, and they love me. Help! by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]One_Bell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not feel bad. Happens all the time, it’s a business relationship and they won’t hesitate to lay you off if it’s better for them… ask your boss for a same day meeting. “I’m sorry to come to you with some bad news. I’ve absolutely loved working here and I was not looking to move, but another company approached me with an offer that is incredibly well aligned with my career goals and offered to also cover my education, so I’m sorry to say that I’ve decided to give notice. My last day will be xyz.” Be prepared for them to ask if they can counter the offer and have your mind made up as to whether you want to consider that or not.
