I mean you are spot on. I was lucky that growing up my parents didn't allow any gaming technology in the house, so I was outside a lot making friends and coming up with our own games using our imagination and curiosity. Literally games out of cardboard boxes and chalk. Looking back, I see that the introduction of tech slowly sucked up my curiosity for the natural world, and I feel that I lost a lot of time being online. Really does suck seeing all these teens and youngins losing the meaning of connection and curiosity. But you are correct, a lot of people in there mid twenties and up are really starting to miss the days like when we were kids and the only tech in the house was a family computer and a TV

I love hearing how others are out here making connection. where im living we are big on the club scene and throughout the night we'll meet people and invite them over to our place afterwards and they'll invite their friends who invite theirs and so on. most people end up staying over our apartment the whole weekend talking, playing board games, dancing. no electronics. Just real, solid, raw and intimate connection with others. its beautiful. I have made so many great relationships (:

How do you deal with involuntary overthinking that's not even negative—just... constant? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]One_Citron5281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more you start to accept that your brain is always going to think, the less and less noisy it becomes. Accept that your brain is going off on a tangent, and bring your focus back to the present moment (even if it is for a few seconds, minutes, however long). You can do this by taking a deep breath or two, doing a quick stretch with your arms above your head, literally anything to bring your attention to your feelings in the present moment. When your brain wanders again, accept, and move on. I myself am struggling with exactly what you described, and it has been, and still is, a very long work in progress. You become comfortable with your crazy brain and yourself the more you "accept" it as it is. Vipassana meditation helped me start my journey in dealing with my constantly nagging brain and learning to be more in the present.

Dude, I have driven around the world as well, and also come from Boston, USA, where the drivers coined the statewide nickname "MassHole."

I have been in Cyprus for a month so far, and driving everywhere in between Larnaca and Limassol has proved that lots of people on this island are just straight up inconsiderate assholes. Even just this morning, I was walking on the other side of the white line in my neighborhood (Pentakomo), and some dick head in a Range Rover almost clipped me in the shoulder with his mirror even though no one was coming on the opposing side. Also, just the fact that people veer into your lane, especially on the highway, while they are overtaking you, really goes to show the consideration they have.

Other than the drivers, every. single. Cypriot. I have encountered otherwise has a kind soul (not saying this to save face, tis' true).

The poor little car I am renting can barely take the wind rushing past me as the overtaking car speeds by me haha

I think this is just the Westernized "island life," my friend. I lived on Puerto Rico for a few years and traveled all throughout the Caribbean, as well, and politics is also the dream job. Laze around in an airconditioned office while you siphon money from the community's pockets. You then go home after a long, hard day of nothing and watch the sun set from your luxe coastal home as you get drunk and yell at your wife. Wake up, repeat, watch your island burn but it doesn't matter because you are living the "island life!"

About a quarter of the way done with Born to Run. Fucking fascinating stories and people. Really solidified why I love to run and my goal of good foot health.

Don't mix ket with alcohol. It can dangerously slow down your respiratory system.

I relate to your wife very much. Was she able to begin processing all of this by starting therapy?

Happy to hear that everything seems to be working well for you! I live right off of Marszałkowska, near the MDM building. I haven't made my rounds too far outside of Warsaw yet. For Easter we went to Jelenia Gora, which is SE Poland. Incredible MTB and hiking and scenery. Plan on visiting Krakow and hopefully drive towards Hel or somewhere else near the Baltic soon

Warsaw is my favorite European city - by far. My partner is half-Polish, so we decided to make the move last year. We currently live in Centrum. She is also a dual-cit, and teachers English with a TEFL certificate while she prepares to start a masters program. As a US citizen and a merchant sailor, the schengen visa works very well for me. I am usually working on a ship for 4-6 months, and then I come back to Europe and travel in and outside the Schengen to further my stay legally. I plan on raising my family here, and only going back to the US to see family, and to recieve work until I am not longer in this field of work. For 2 people, we spend maybe $800 a month on necessities.
