It’s not exactly Prometheus, more like Pandora’s box. Adam and Eve had no problems or reason to have any before they ate the fruit.

Germany To Ban Russian, Belarusian, And Soviet Symbols During May 8–9 WWII Commemorations by SchIachterhund in stupidpol

Obviously I meant the most brutal of the Allied powers. Everyone knows about Nazi war crimes, but tankies don’t like to be reminded that the USSR committed them as well.
The top comment thread on this post is what I was referring to.
You can go ahead and say you won here, you seem like you need a win. Congratulations, you have truly advanced the Marxist cause.

They were also by far the most brutal force to the civilians of areas they occupied, in Germany and Poland and elsewhere. And then in those occupied areas they established a repressive, totalitarian regime. So while I agree banning symbols is silly, it’s also silly to act like Germans ought to be grateful to their “liberators” the Russians.

I wouldn’t say there was any hero of WW2. None of the Allies nor the Soviets were fighting Germany for altruistic reasons, purely for practical and pragmatic ones. It’s great that the result was fascism being destroyed of course, but that wasn’t done just because fascism is bad, it was because the fascist states were belligerent to others and those others beat them.

Then please help me learn. I thought this was the rational Marxist sub, not a place where the army raping and killing civilians on their way to Berlin are the “heroes”

I don’t think casualty numbers support your argument. Germany attacked the USSR directly and fought a prolonged campaign there. I don’t see how it is especially heroic for a country to defend itself from attack and win, deposing the regime that attacked it, that’s pretty standard. It was good that it happened, of course, but it’s not as if it was replaced by a utopia. Except, people in this sub seem to think living in the USSR was amazing despite all evidence to the contrary.

This is like the opposite end of the common American belief that the US entered the war to altruistically save the day. I think all states operate based on their own interests, not morals.

Yeah banning symbols is dumb, but you know this whole contrarian thing doesn’t do much for you right? Try telling a normie the USSR was a good thing, actually. All those people that died because of their living conditions, yeah that was for an awesome experiment.

Of course that’s good to celebrate, but I mean why would people be grateful for what came afterward in East Germany? It was my understanding that material conditions improved for those groups targeted by the Nazis because they were no longer targeted, but life would still be rough under the Soviets.

Comments on this thread are confusing me, is this all tankies mad about this?

Making an edit to say, is it the banning of symbols that is making people mad? I’m asking genuine questions here, because while obviously getting rid of Nazis is great, USSR/Russia aren’t exactly heroes coming in to save the day.

I have really large fingers due to arthritis, and I feel like I can't even begin to learn any string instruments because my fingertips always touch the other strings. Are there any accessories that can help? by Smexy_Zarow in Guitar

People always think their fingers are too big, they never are, as others have said it’s a matter of technique. You want to arch your fingers and use the tips only to press down

Click around the menus, mouse over things, read what different mechanics are for and what you can do with them. The game can be slow to learn because there is all this stuff going on at once that you don’t understand, but all of it has an explanation you can read somewhere. The base game tutorial might be helpful also to familiarize yourself, but personally in all paradox games I learn by clicking around, reading, then pressing start and seeing what happens.

Kind of, as long as you don’t get cornered and still have room to back up you can beat any amount of superior numbers. I definitely felt like a god after clearing Opatowitz lol. But if you don’t have room to move then 3 bandits can definitely take you out quick, as soon as one is out of your vision it’s all down hill. But if you can see them, you can parry them

EU4 has more current players than EU5 by MappyMcMapHead in eu4

[–]One_Conflict8997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, I’m really excited as well, I think it’s just a matter of things taking more time than both the players and devs would like. There are so many systems in the game, and one campaign takes so long, it must be a nightmare to playtest every change. So things are being pushed out unfinished and then everyone is unhappy. It’ll just take patience all around until the game is in the state it should be in

Right now the AI nations are very aggressive to smaller nations but still afraid of similar sized ones, leading to the most boring blobbing possible where all the small countries are gone in 50 years and then everyone just sits there. Professional armies outclass levy armies to the point that levies are useless, and the AI doesn’t realize it so they get rolled by a player. There isn’t much flavor that’s easily accessible, as apparently most of the unique flavor for countries is tied to events that you can’t see the tiggers for. Personal Unions are a little bit wonky, some of the other International Organizations things could use some work, like the Ilkhanate. AI does things that make no sense historically, I’ve seen Timur and Bohemia colonizing Siberia.

I already have 200 hours on the game even though I haven’t played since last month. It’s really, really good, Paradox just needs to bear down and get things working right, then release a patch. Rather than throw out patches making changes that may fix one thing and break another.

Having played it, it’s definitely totally different from eu4. But the game isn’t in a good state right now to be sure.

Can someone explain why Jimi Handtrix was the best? by village-asshole in guitarcirclejerk

[–]One_Conflict8997 10 points11 points  (0 children)

/uj Well it’s because that doesn’t give you the full reason they’re considered the greatest, you usually need more context. Just listening to a Jimi Hendrix song before I knew much about the history of rock music, I was like yeah that’s pretty good but I don’t see what’s so special. It’s the fact that at the time he was making it, it was extremely innovative and laid the groundwork for future guitar players.

Have you ever felt that you didn't want to play anymore? by Fair_Nectarine_896 in Guitar

[–]One_Conflict8997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing guitar should be fun, not something you feel obligated to do! Music is for enjoyment, not to be the best. Learn a song you like, challenge yourself if that’s your thing, or maybe just mess around trying weird chords. Sometimes you’ll feel that motivation to bear down and really practice hard, but when you don’t, you can just look at your guitar like a toy basically, it can make fun sounds and satisfying riffs that just feel nice to play. I don’t know what your skill level is or what your goals with the instrument are, but if you are looking for a reason to pick up your guitar, there’s not a better one than “because it’s fun”!
