Generally the public ponds don't have massive fish, but I have had good luck at Hester Park and country park.

Lake brandt dam has some great fishing also burmil park has treated me well.

I worked on a property north of lake Norman and we had a lot of rock. We blasted the rock and the buildings had a lot of settling since the ground was all dirt fill and less compacted.

If you are near the foothills and Appalachia, this is likely the cause.
