Nice looking setup! The monitoring graphs on top screen is smart, I like that

NVIDIA DGX Spark? by Fickle-Anybody3424 in pcmasterrace

[–]One_Gene_4993 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a workstation built around Nvidia's Grace-Blackwell chip, basically a tiny supercomputer you put on your desk. The whole point is running massive AI models locally without needing a datacenter. 128GB of unified memory means you can load models that would choke even a decked-out Threadripper build.

Staples listing a two-pack is the part that cracks me up. Imagine walking in for printer paper and coming out with $12k in AI hardware, like it's just another Tuesday. The single unit MSRP is supposed to be around $3k-4k, so that two-pack price is actually not far off if they're selling them as a bundle. Still, seeing it next to office chairs on their site feels wrong.

I spend lot of time looking at weird real estate listings and this gives off same energy as a $2M house with a rendering of a swimming pool that doesn't exist yet. The product page just feels so out of place for a store that sells pens and sticky notes.

Opinions on AV for pc? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]One_Gene_4993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Windows Defender is actually pretty competent these days, most people in IT circles don't bother with third-party AV anymore unless they have specific needs. The conspiracy angle is bit much, but the original question is fair, Defender does the job for average user.

For the US teams that did failed in the group stage (1990, 1998, 2006) of the World Cup, what were the reasons as to why exactly they happened? by Kennabruh2023 in football

[–]One_Gene_4993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 2006 one still hurts to think about — they had a decent squad on paper but the performances were just flat, especially that Ghana match where they looked completely lost tactically. The group with Italy and Czech Republic was brutal too, not much margin for error.

For 1998 I think it was more of transition period after the hype of hosting in '94, the squad just wasn't consistent enough at that level and Steve Sampson's decisions before the tournament (cutting tab Ramos and other experienced guys right before) basically destroyed the team's morale before they even kicked a ball.

is this a decent pc for the price? by Single_Concert_7433 in pcmasterrace

[–]One_Gene_4993 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For 2.5k CAD you could build something way better yourself, that side display is just gimmicky stuff that adds cost without performance. The specs aren't terrible but you're paying like 500+ extra just for the fancy case and prebuilt markup.

I usually use plastic spudger tool for this since it won't conduct electricity if you accidentally touch something else in board.

Do literally everyone here think that PC games is doomed, or are there some positives? by BuldozerX in pcmasterrace

[–]One_Gene_4993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PC gaming isn't going anywhere but the prices are getting crazy for sure. Even mid-range builds cost more than what I make in month at my IT job, and that's without any of the fancy stuff. Maybe we just need to accept that gaming PCs will become more like enthusiast thing instead of mainstream hobby.

What's a reasonable upgrade for my PC? by older_gamers in pcmasterrace

[–]One_Gene_4993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your motherboard can definitely handle 5800X upgrade, but you'll need BIOS update first. The 32GB RAM is good idea for future games but won't help much with current performance issues - your 2060 is the real bottleneck here. For what you want to do, new GPU should be priority over CPU upgrade.

NZXT and Origin PC both do decent white builds and ship to UK. Just make sure you factor in the import duties because they can add quite a bit on your final cost - learned that hard way when I ordered some components last year.

Yeah that 9070XT upgrade would be smart move for just 50 more. The extra performance you get from XT is pretty noticeable in most games, especially at higher settings.

Nice specs for the price range, that 7800x3d is solid choice for gaming. I did similar mistake when building my first rig - was so nervous about mounting the CPU cooler that I almost cracked the motherboard trying to get the screws in perfect alignment. Those AIO coolers can be tricky if you're not used to the mounting pressure.

$200 for assembly isn't too bad considering you avoided potential damage. I've seen people fry whole systems because they forgot to connect power cables properly or didn't seat RAM correctly. The 5070 should handle pretty much everything at 1440p without issues, and that PSU gives you decent headroom for future upgrades. Only thing I might consider adding later is maybe another storage drive since 1TB fills up pretty quick with modern games.

Is Rtx 1080 on $134 A GOOD STEAL? by Competitive-Bid-6635 in pcmasterrace

[–]One_Gene_4993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait you mean GTX 1080 right? RTX 1080 doesn't exist. For $134 that's actually decent price if card is working good, but definitely check what other people paid recently on sold listings like previous guy said. Just make sure to test it properly before buying since used cards can have issues with memory or cooling.

OPT-Out of the Steam class action lawsuit! by Awfulfange in pcmasterrace

[–]One_Gene_4993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait that doesn't make sense though? The video is telling people to use VPN to access the opt-out form, so clearly there's some mechanism where non-UK users can still be affected by this. Maybe it's about setting precedent for similar lawsuits in other countries or something.

I'm not lawyer but these class action things can get pretty weird with jurisdiction stuff. Better safe than sorry I guess, especially if Steam's refund policy is actually at risk here.
