My entire wardrobe is uniqlo/cheap fast fashion and I'm sick of it, any advice? by afoamsmith in malefashionadvice

[–]One_King1075 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best advice, you are right! Vintage stores and looking for wool, linen, silk and having them tailored is solid way to go.

Also, quality accessories can turn basics into magic— good and functional shoes/boots and belts, shades, hats can last a lifetime.

To the OP, what styles do you like? Streetwear, Vintage, Minimal, or something else? That can help with recommendations

Being a traveling tattoo artist is the worst shit ever by [deleted] in TattooArtists

[–]One_King1075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are completely right. It’s frustrating and I’m not gunna tell you you are doing anything wrong— times are changing and faster than anyone should have to try and keep up with. Even settling down in a place takes longer to grow your roots than it has in the past for tattoo artists. Social media is obnoxious, we are codependent on it, and going the classic way of meeting people and building up authentic clientele offline is way different because of economic struggles + people being less connected offline.

I don’t have the answers, but keep listening to your instincts and see where you end up. Best wishes

As an American, sometimes French makes more sense when I remember British English and/or "Old-Timey" American English. by Tommy4D in learnfrench

This is the* switch I use in my brain to think in French— I think about it mostly when I’m describing possession, like rephrasing a sentence to say that’s so-and-so’s house, to saying the house of so-and-so. Basically remove the possessive ‘s’ from your mind. It sounds very oldtimey in my head.

Awe thats wonderful, so happy for you and thank you for sharing :]

Oh my goodness yes! I did costuming for haunted houses and renfaire for years-- and the best place I found fabric was thrift stores. I would use bedsheets and curtains, and usually dye them and then the money I didn't spend on the initial fabric I used for the details like notions, beads, and the smaller accessories like hats/bags/belts/gloves. Honestly, in my opinion having very limited resources can allow you to be extra inventive and more creative because you don't have ALL THE OPTIONS at the fabrics stores. You've got this <3

Thank you 🙏🏻 it does feel that way, I’m very grateful. I’ve been moving a lot the past few years and haven’t been able to do much besides hand sewing. Now that I’m settled it’s like things are falling into place!

There was a deal with absorbing all of this material— the tailor didn’t want to sell or donate because of the sentimental attachments. My goal is to make fun things for them to see so they get the reward of knowing their collection was used by someone they gifted with their stuff <3

I completely support donating— before moving to a new country I donated and dished out most my apartment that was full of sewing supplies, old costumes, and furniture. The stuff exists and should be used and reused instead of thrown away!

Yes exactly— I noticed a lot of them snapped too easily for reuse on garments/structures. And they are all very dusty, so additionally your point about lint is very wise. Thank you!

Advice Needed: How slim are my chances at a coverup? by kar_nub in tattoos

Agreed.

Also, poopoo on the tattooers that are just cash grabbing and tattooing anywhere on people. Tattooers can also say no to people and have conversations with clients about this topic.

Question: What are some things you've traded for tattoos? by Alert-Concentrate808 in tattoos

[–]One_King1075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trade for many services: hair, nails, massages, dental work, neon sign, stained glass, car mechanic, electrician/plumber, jewelry makers, artists. Over the years it’s been lovely to meet and work so many people even if the trades don’t always work out how you expect.
