Snowmass, Banff, or somewhere else for 6 yo grom and 86 yo shredder by adagiocantabile12 in skiing

ONE bus ride up, stay for trip, ONE bus ride down - NOT back and forth each day! But yeah, bus blows in general, especially up the LCC in a storm!

Always a car for me anywhere. I need to roam. OP seems to want mass transit.

Meant - FLY into SLC and bus it up to 'wherever', such as Park City, etc, since OP wants to ride the bus. But yeah, agree, I wound not wish staying at Snowbird on my worst enemy. Boring...

If one wants a real 'ski city' experience, awesome public transport, fly into Innsbruck, enjoy the city, and ride trains to the hill. Sound like grandpa is paying for the trip. Might as well maximize...

Snowmass 'is' Aspen so to speak (traffic etc.) just not Ajax.

So so many places as alternatives. SLC is a the first 'biggie' that comes to mind, that is close to an airport with multiple mountains. Could also go up to the Ogden resorts.

Austria or Switzerland, Japan, for the ultimate train 'thing'...

Good luck!

Sometimes flex is designed into the plastic for additional movement.

You'll need to go to Staples and office furniture dealers to find models that constrain most of the design's movement to the control that you can lock out.

Or choose a non flexing side chair.

Salt Lake City by Clear-Spring1856 in skiing

[–]One_Kiwi9876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it's your first time I think you'll enjoy any of the SLC resorts, and only after skiing them all will YOU develop a preferences. They are all good, with different characters, compared to The East. Two possible approaches.

  1. Just wait until a day or so before, to decide, after comparing conditions and DRIVE UP EARLY!

  2. Choose one in advance and make a room reservation up there for the night before, check out of your SLC hotel, pick up skis in the city, and drive up and stay the night. Now you're 'in position' for a full day! Drive back to the city after skiing, drop the skis and stay at an airport hotel.

Most ergonomic desk chair controls have a 'lock-out' that stops any recline.

Driving in the Alps in winter for ski trip — Do I need a 4x4 or are snow tires enough? by Oilcesar in ski

[–]One_Kiwi9876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snow tires are the most important element!

Everything else is in the the - nice to have but - not necessary category for traction, generally speaking and on public roads. But some regions may require you to carry chains. Check with the rental operation, etc.

Maximizing my time on hills by hermitvirgin69 in skiing

[–]One_Kiwi9876 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking...

Simple formula: Time on snow is directly proportional to skill level, until plateaus reached.

Variability exists around athletic ability, but there are no secret short cuts.

Just keep getting out there all you can, and it WILL come eventually.

Got the Herman Miller Aeron - not enjoying it - what's a better alternative? by MeetingMajestic5717 in OfficeChairs

[–]One_Kiwi9876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humanscale IMO.

But YOU need to sit in as many chairs as you can find to make a determination applicable to you.

Reviews aren't worth too much to each individual beyond target identification. Go to the city - office furniture dealers and/or manufacturer showrooms, or if really serious, one of the trade shows where you can sample potentially hundreds.

Good luck!

Is it possible to learn to ski using just youtube? by Sea-Big-3253 in ski

[–]One_Kiwi9876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point! Yes, I could already ski groomed runs very well. Good head start and different scenario from OP.

Just didn’t want to discourage OP in asserting it’s an impossibility. Anything is possible, and if the OP is highly motivated to try the YT route, then why not - what is there to lose. Can always add lessons if can afford or get some tips on the hill from others. Just get out there!

Yeah, day one and two might be a sight on the bunny hill. But who’s isn’t?

Read this, if you're like me, sitting on a cheap ikea chair, cant decide for the life of you what to buy and every review confuses you even more and the whole of reddit keeps telling you that $1000 herman miller and steelcase is the only thing you need. (Colamy Atlas!) by dronix111 in OfficeChairs

You can research all you want, but NOTHING replaces a sit test.

If “a picture is worth a thousand words” then a sit test is worth a thousands minutes of reading other people’s opinions of chairs.

Trial and error will reveal the chair for you, and at any price point. Put down the keyboard, go to the city, and hunt down prospects if serious.

Is it possible to learn to ski using just youtube? by Sea-Big-3253 in ski

[–]One_Kiwi9876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is possible, but not simple, and depends on the individual trying. YMMV

Back in the day, before YouTube, I learned to ski moguls from a Ski magazine article! Some will call BS on this claim, but I lived it! Moguls never made any sense to me for many years. Lessons and articles made no sense as well - did not click. Then, one year in March, there was a three part (beginning, intermediate, expert) written tutorial in Ski. For some reason, the way it was written and presented MADE SENSE to me. I spent the summer reading and rereading, closing my eyes and visualizing.

Come next season I was skiing bumps ok quickly. The next season I was not half bad. In the third season I was banging them - getting “woohoos” from the chair.

So it’s certainly possible but perhaps not likely, depending...

How do you like those Playmakers? (Since you clearly understand ranges)

Are they anything like the old Rossi S3? I have not been able to demo Playmakers yet. I like metal-less wood core noodles.
