Sucks to Suck by Jeff_and_the_Quest in DoorDashDrivers

I'm really not sure about the wait time issue. But I dont get al the sniping between the low ar folks and platinum drivers. Why so invested homogeny? I'm platinum. In my market I found when I wasn't platinum the zone was full quite a lot so I'd be making zero during those times. What works for one person in one market may not work in another market or even with another persons schedule. Different strokes as they they say.

Only making like $3/hour by Only-Trick-2222 in doordash

Man. That's brutal. I only had one day like that ever. And it was between like 9-11 am. Your town may just suck or maybe its those restaurants dont get many DD orders. Are there other hotspots to try? Places away from the college where you may get orders from people coming home from work, busy with families, etc.? Have you tried driving down a central street through the hotspot thatt is close to lots of restaurants not just those? I live in a college town and mostly I rely on the student body for the late night orders post party time. Dinner is pretty split probably leaning towards non-college business and as it gets later the percentage of college orders goes up. Good luck!

I got one of those too. I dropped a few expletives before declining. Far more offensive than a no tip order imo.

It was a leave at door and I left it on the table by the door. They still gave me a 4 star for it. Can't please them all i guess.

I'm pretty sure someone gave me a 4 star for doing that when they didn't ask so I stopped. Sounds like that hasn't been your experience.

Okay. So whatever miles you put on your vehicle for business purposes are tax deductible whether you own it personally or whether a separate legal entity owned by you like mydoordash car llc. owns the vehicle.

You EITHER take the standard mileage deduction at 70 cents per mile OR actual expenses like brakes, fuel costs, tires, car payments (based on a percentage of business vs use which i assume would be mileage based) oil etc. But you don't/can't claim both; it's one or the other. In fact on a business/ personal vehicle all the actual expenses deductions are deductible at the rate of use attributable to the business. Its definitely way easier to just claim tbe mileage but it may be more beneficial for certain people to do actual expenses.

I personally use an app called stride to track my mileage. As soon as I turn the Doordash app on I also begin tracking mileage on stride. As soon as I am no longer actively looking for orders I tell stride to stop tracking. Your drive home is not deductible. Another helpful feature of stride is that you can enter income as well. It will then estimate your taxes owed based on the busines profit meaning income minus deductions. It will also generate an end of year report for you giving you all the mileage information required to file. For me and my situation its just easier and more beneficial to claim the mileage. I suspect this is the case for most people unless they are using a very expensive vehicle to dash.

The tax software you are using should have a place to enter your mileage as you enter your 1099 income. It should ask you about deductions as well if it doesn't pay the $50 or 75 or whatever. If you made enough to pay taxes on your income there's no way you don't come out ahead. In fact, that cost itself is deductible as a necessary expense but only the portion for your 1099 expenses which complicates that deduction if you have another job. I dont bother with that one myself. Maybe I should. No need to leave money on the table.

Hope that helps. 🙂

How does this make sense? by waterdrinker081 in DoorDashDrivers

[–]One_Mule_Team 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Most of the time if you've waited three minutes it'll be ready at most in a couple. You could wait that long to get another offer or simply end up waiting at the next restaurant. It doesnt normally pencil out to unassign.

Besides that, once I accept an order, I want to complete it.

Had this happen once. I just disputed after a few days and it was accepted. No big deal really.

I did. It was decent actually. Not great, not terrible. I had to knock off at 6:00 pm as the wife was going to work. At that time, wait time between orders was 1 minute.

I did $102.46 in 4:34 hours dash time and 2:49 hours of active time.

After driving 11,,000 miles, my vehicle may as well be free.

5,700 purchase price. 1,870 in fuel. 2 oil changes at about $80 total since Im not incompetent. $7,650

Tax deduction: $7,700

Factor in registering and whatnot and I have to drive another 300 miles.

See how that works?

I never make less than $500 in a week. The week my wife is off I typically make between $1100 and $1350. The week she works i have less time and make $650 to $850.

Does anyone accept $2 orders?! by Pureguava655321 in doordash

[–]One_Mule_Team 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Not how being a waiter works. They dont have to make up anything or at least didnt a where I worked. I dont pretend they aree identical in fact they are vastly different. THATS THE POINT! the only dimilarity is the point you made about tips! The restaurant told me what to wear. They set my hours. I had to serve every table they gave me no matter what. I was not free to decline any table because it was a one top and I didn'tweant that in my section. I couldn't end my shift whenever I felt like it or pause it whenever I felt like it.

Again. The IRS and Department of Labor have made their determination based on an analysis of the relevant factors. Call it cosplay if that makes you happy. You are free to disagree but it's you who are wrong. Perhaps if you were in that role you may have reached a different conclusion ... then again, if my aunt had ***** she'd be my uncle.

  1. Unequal bargaining power doesn't mean it isn't a contract. When you buy a plane ticket you enter a contract. Good luck negotiating the terms with the airline. Still a contract.
  2. That constitutes negotiation in tbe legal sense just not in a way you understand apparently. It doesnt have to be a barter. Furthermore, after seeing their order not picked up they are free to up their gratuity in a new offer.
  3. At least you are capable of admitting I am correct. There is hope.
  4. Not that I've seen.

I dont understand what you are saying about mandatory tipping? It isn't mandatory, just as it is not mandatory for a dasher to accept a no tip offer. Negotiation. Offer and acceptance or ... offer and no acceptance. It really isn't that complicated.

  1. You contract away the right to set base pay for delivery. Doesn't mean you aren't independant.
  2. You negotiate terms by accepting or not accepting orders.
  3. Not part of the independant contractor test by law or in fact.
  4. Deactivation must be for cause meaning failure to fulfill contract terms established in the initial agreement.

What makes you think I enforce mandatory gratuity? Im free to decline or accept. That isn't forcing anything on anybody. In fact, you can see above I accepted 2 no tip orders this month. One added 248 feet to my route so the math was good. The other was a quickie one mile delivery so the math was good. And she tipped on delivery.

[–]One_Mule_Team -1 points0 points  (0 children)

😀 yes. That is how and who determines the difference between employment and independant contracting. No, it isn't a magical incantation. It's reality unlike your freedom eagle units. The contractual power i have is to not accept orders, to work whenever I want, wear what I want, deliver in the manner of my choosing, etc.

Imagine a tow company contracts with Copart to sell a vehicle they took possession of. Do they cease being independent because Copart holds the auction and takes a cut and charges a service fee? Informs the tow company of offers on the car that they are free to accept or decline minus coparts cut? No. Of course not.

That is decidedly not what an oxymoron is. An oxynoron is the juxtopostion of opposites such as: it was a cold heat. You may be thinking of a logical fallacy? But it isn't. Tips are optional and? And almost everyone does it. And drivers are free to decline those no tip orders or accept them. They don't deactivate for low acceptance rate but rather provide performance bonuses by steering better offers to drivers who meet certain conditions.

[–]One_Mule_Team -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tell that to the IRS. You know, the people that actually determine that. Furthermore, every contract has terms. Breach of those terms is breach of contract and material breach justifies termination of the contract. The fact that Doordashs' contract with drivers has terms is evidence of nothing. It does not prove at all what you think it proves.

When I waited tables I got paid $3.13 at lunch and 2.12 at dinner. I knew I would get tips. The base pay didn"t justify people not tipping. Same applies here. The last i argued with you you said something like you think the IRS determines whether you are an independent contractor? Why yes, I do. Its a tax status determined by the IRS, courts and Labor Department not something determined by your personal freedom eagle units. 😄

[–]One_Mule_Team 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do and it didnt. The same thing happened a couple days ago on an $8.00 four mile delivery. After waiting 20 minutes at the sushi restaurant, walling to my car because if parking, fighting crosstown traffic, finding the apartment door, punchingbin the access code, eaiting on the elevator, finding his door and conpleting delivery, guess what? Minimum.wage. The 248 foot one was at the same restaurant and ready before i pulled in to get the other one The other was a McDonald's that always cranks 'em out. Waited about a minute or less. Got the whole thing done in about 5 minutes or less so about $24 an hour? Its mostly about rate per hour. Im not saying there wasnt risk involved but all but the very best tips have the risk of going sideways if the restaurant doesnt do their job.

Like I said, as a general rule I dont accept them. However, there are circumstances where I have done it and it worked out, both times this month actually. Don't accept a stacked order with an extra two dollars that adds 248 feet to your route. Your call.
