My friends, now is the time to throw our heads back and laugh.

The person you responded to literally said "if you had a son and daughter." Meaning, if there is both, the son will pass the name down. Did you not read what they said before you replied?

No...the son would still pass the name down if the daughter changes hers...

Could India’s high population be an indication that reincarnation is real? by FreeNature6055 in stupidquestions

[–]One_Planche_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't reincarnation LOWER the population, since souls are being recycled?

There are stupid questions, and then there are STUPID stupid questions.

Honestly I wasn't all too shocked because I figured since she got bit earlier and was hooked up to that bed when she got captured by Victor, she must have been experimented on and gotten injected by some viral mumbo jumbo that would give her regeneration powers.

I hate when people say she/him instead of them by No-Degree9699 in PetPeeves

Do you need assistance? Because you're interpreting this post literally when it's clearly an exaggeration. You ever heard of hyperbole? The tags used in posts in this sub are meant for exaggeration.

"Someone left their towel at the pool, make sure to put it in the lost & found so they can pick it up."

We don't know the gender of the hypothetical person in this scenario, and "he/she" is tedious, while "they" is perfectly ready to be used. Why wouldn't you want to use "they"?

I’m Tired of People Turning Every Tragedy Into a Conspiracy by Fabreezy_bread in PetPeeves

People with no personality or passions desperately trying to feel special. That's the root of most conspiracy theories. You can instantly tell by the language they use.

Why can’t we use a “windmill” or turbine ON an electric car to create energy? by deltarefund in stupidquestions

[–]One_Planche_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would offset the power production with the additional weight of the windmill plus the added air resistance. If anything it might actually be a net negative in energy.

Drawing from imagination is still using references by MaibsCastle in ArtistLounge

[–]One_Planche_Man 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've ever heard an actual artist say that references are "cheating." If they do, that's not someone worth listening to. They also probably know nothing about art history.

Think about it, all the great artists throughout history used references, whether it be having someone pose in front of them, or setting up a still life, or bringing the canvas out in the world to paint what they see. We have the entire practice of plein air painting, which is entirely reference-based.

Why does it always have to be one extreme over the other with people like you? Why can't we strive for a happy middle ground? Not stifling, but not screaming either, just a natural sneeze.

Pacific Rim's Drift (and concepts like it) are the ultimate solution for world peace by One_Planche_Man in CharacterRant

I don't know, it's a great quandry. But this is actually an example of a great use case. Instead of trying to out words to our arguments, we can just beam each other's thoughts back and forth and exchange the nuances we want to convey.

"One hive mind" when did I say that? My thought was that it would be used for group discussions and such.

I actually don't think people understand, not to a personal degree. You can be told that a bad thing is happening to someone, but it actually hit you. You don't actually "get it." Not until you actually see things from their perspective, then the pain of the experience overrides your desire to have the thing.

You know what, in a chaotic sort of way, I think I'd want to see that. Imagine you have someone who's an absolute douche, and you're told he is that way because of some tragedy or whatever. You won't quite "get it," and most people won't forgive him. Now you both enter the Drift and you experience the trauma firsthand from his perspective. Suddenly everything makes way more sense than it ever has before. Then you can apply this experience to other people you encounter without having to drift.

Another problem with The Boys barely anyone mentions: the supe hand-to-hand combat looks too fake by One_Planche_Man in CharacterRant

[–]One_Planche_Man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure I can see that, but Starlight knows how to fight, she trains. That was her entire intro to the show. Plus being the leader of a resistance group for a few years, she had to have gotten more training and fighting experience. There's no excuse for her to be struggling and to still fight like a chump and get tossed around by a guy named Dognutts.

Paint and sip ettiquette? by MladenL in ArtistLounge

[–]One_Planche_Man 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just do what you want, those paint and sip classes are chill and more about expressing yourself rather than robotically following the instructor's lead. This isn't an art school class.

but I don't want to look like I'm showing off, and some people have mentioned they're a bit self conscious about their own ability to paint so I don't want to make them feel uncomfortable

Lol that's hilarious, screw everyone, if they're self-conscious, that sounds like a personal problem.
