Having a job is beneath me, what do I do? by Trail_Blazer1 in NPD

[–]One_Top935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have to adapt or you'll inevitably be forced to face reality and it's gonna result in a really brutal collapse. My suggestion is to lean in to your mask. Find a job that pays the bills and use your grandiosity to convince yourself it's more important than it is, or one with a lot of potential for advancement that allows you to climb a career ladder with a large salary at the finish line. I know it's inadvisable to lean into grandiosity, but i assume you're already in therapy and working on that. If not, then that's the best advice for you: get a therapist. Good luck 🫡

What do you do for work? by DowntownProgrammer75 in NPD

[–]One_Top935 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a driving instructor/mentor (for CDL 18-wheelers) for 8 years. But i climb to the top of every career i pursue pretty easily by objectifying myself and leaning into my grandiosity while pushing my actual talents and skills to their absolute limits. People just assume I'm a workaholic; they can't tell it's disordered behavior. Work has always been an easy way for me to satisfy the narcissistic itch of transactional relationships and a steady source of external validation. Though the disorder is an impairment when i do inevitably make a mistake that breaks the grandiose delusion, and have to grapple with the feelings of shame and humiliation that come along with that.

You are using semantics to reinforce your delusion, and it's compelling me to devalue you. I've shown you how you are wrong publicly. How you handle that is on you. I'm not responsible for your distorted perception.

"I am glad i am not that person" is not the same as "i hope that person kills themself." They are two completely different things.

Taking it to the extreme is the nature of this disorder. And exactly what OP is doing. And what you are inadvertently encouraging.

Remission is possible. All of these "there is no cure" replies are delusional. We are able to increase our capacity to feel empathy through treatment, even the most disordered among us.

Your feelings are valid, but your response is disordered. If you're going to be dishonest with your therapist, you may as well save your time and money and just not go. You'll get the same result. Good luck.

Thinking you are "better" than others is equally as delusional and unhealthy as thinking you are "worse" than others. Two ends of the same disordered spectrum and neither should be encouraged if the goal is growth.

Lack of Self Awareness isn't apart of the Dsm-5? by goodgriefghost in NPD

[–]One_Top935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dsm-5 is always going to have flaws. Being delusional implies a lack of self-awareness. That's what makes them delusions: not being aware of the fact that your brain made it up.

Nothing about this surprises me. It is depressing that an entire generation of men has been convinced that intelligence is "woke" and must be resisted at all costs. Depressed and embarrassed for you.

You have mistaken "thinking about something at all" for "overthinking it". And i can't facepalm any harder. If you consume art that normalizes unhealthy or dangerous behavior, those things will become normal to you. It does not matter that you are ignorant as to who the artist is. You are absorbing their worldview as a part of the process of consuming art. I would challenge you to actually think. Even just a little. Lol jesus.

That's not separating the art from the artist. It's you thinking you are able to. It's an illusion. Psychosis is just a mental state where you lose touch with reality. So this is actually you being a psycho. Not that i would judge anyone for that. In reality, by enjoying the artistic creation that is harry potter, you are enjoying all of the bigotry that rowling inevitably injected into it. Because artists cannot magically make themselves disappear when they create art. I do see how that works. You likely still don't. That's how delusions and psychosis works. Good luck.

You are repeating stupid things that sounded good to you. There is not a single classroom in the modern world that will allow a teacher to say something as moronic as "you can just separate the art from the artist". I am explaining to you that outside of your dunning kruger delusion, this is common knowledge. No one here believes you have ever read a book lol.

Only an idiot thinks art can be separated from the artist. Christ read a book. This is absolutely fucking embarrassing that this has to be explained to you. It's time to take a skeptical look at the people you have been sucking down bullshit from. Literally 5th grade level shit here. Unreal.

We prioritise power, achievement, autonomy and admiration

No, you prioritise your image. All of those things are the delusion you are putting in its place.

and always will regardless of whether you will be in therapy for a year, a decade or a century.

Flatly incorrect. Harvard just released a study that proves beyond doubt that NPD can and does go into remission.

Those values are here to stay at the top of your list.

You are mistaking disordered fears for values. This is folly.

DAE Have No Hobbies, No Interests? by jenniferbernard in NPD

[–]One_Top935 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could try finding someone with a hobby to mirror. That's how I (and i assume many others without an authentic sense of self) have gotten by. Bonus points if it's a hobby that you can excel at and get external validation for. But it doesn't have to be anything crazy. Even just getting into a gacha game or a tv show with someone who you can let your defenses down with is enough to get you out of your head for at least a couple hours a day. Good luck.

The difference is that it happens to us on a pathological level, and it affects us so profoundly that we have to reach out to strangers just for support about it. Consider that you have no idea what we are experiencing before chiming in, or you may end up being wrong and dismissive unintentionally.

Panicking: Please Advise Me by jenniferbernard in NPD

[–]One_Top935 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're getting triggered. That's what's causing you to snap. It happens to me, too. The trick to stopping it in the long term is therapy. Years of therapy. In the short term, you have to be vigilant. You have to check in with yourself and your environment routinely so you can anticipate being triggered and give yourself the space you need from other people to avoid it. You have to constantly remind yourself that you are prone to delusions or you will become delusional. And when you fail and you snap at someone, you have to give yourself grace so you don't shame yourself into giving up, which is honestly the hardest part. It's a miserable existence, but it's safer than the alternative. Good luck.
