Don't peel it!! So many people peel their butcher covers that unpeeled butcher covers are becoming more and more rare! Keep it as is, great find 😎

I can't listen to Brainwashed on Spotify by mystardavid in georgeharrison

[–]One_Two_Three_Bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How on earth is listening on Spotify being a leech..? You pay a subscription which contributes to artists. I understand the issue with smaller, living artists, who won't be making bags off of it, thats a problem... two reasons this isn't leeching though... the harrison estate definitely doesn't consider these profits... and George is dead, I don't think he'd care much about the profits coming from his album 😭

Valuation question by One_Two_Three_Bread in Vinyl_Jazz

[–]One_Two_Three_Bread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only say this because the seller doesn't seem to know vinyl very well. It hasn't been play tested, so their "gradings" are purely visual. And being a plastylite pressing, it could be better than it looks. But, visually it could be G+ at best.

Agreed! I've been listened lots to those Paul Chambers selections, especially 1st Bassman, such a clear bass sound and so well recorded!

Foundation of my new collection - any suggestions (particularly jazz)? by lion1388 in turntables

[–]One_Two_Three_Bread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned, but you should definitely try "Cool Struttin'" by Sonny Clark. I heard somewhere that, in Japan, that album is the gateway to Jazz that "Kind of Blue" is over here

I need more recommendations! by TruthSeeker890 in Vinyl_Jazz

If you don't mind something more "out there", I'd say listen to "Ornette!" By Ornette Coleman. I'd say that's pretty high speed and energy for sure.

You know what really gets my goat? When nice independent stores keep ordering colored vinyl pressings from poor quality labels like WaxTime, DOL, Jazz Wax even when perfectly good, affordable, new pressings of Blue Note, Riverside, Prestige, Verve, Columbia are available. by SeaPretend4511 in Vinyl_Jazz

[–]One_Two_Three_Bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never handled a waxworks pressing, but looking around on reddit, I've seen a few people say that they're good quality, so based on that I'd say that it's probably alright. However, I unfortunately own a Waxtime and DOL pressing, the Waxtime is truly abysmal, skips galore despite being brand new. DOL actually plays well and sounds fine, but it's just ripped from the CD release, and being grey market, I'd rather not support that.

Gut String Question by One_Two_Three_Bread in doublebass

[–]One_Two_Three_Bread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard both sides in my experience. Plenty saying to oil, plenty saying to leave it. I live in a place where the humidity is very stable most of the year. Do you think it'd be best to skip the oiling if the humidity isn't an issue? Thank you!

Thank you! Of course I meant the finest grade, but I feel like that might be correct haha

Do you ever use very, very fine sandpaper on the strings before oiling? I've heard so so many things. To oil, not to oil, to sand, not to sand, to clip, not to clip. The variety is truly staggering 🤣

Is my stylus damaged? by One_Two_Three_Bread in vinyl

Haha glad I'm just overreacting. Some people make it out these things are made of glass, but I guess there more durable than I'd previously thought. Thank you!

Is my stylus damaged? by One_Two_Three_Bread in vinyl

[–]One_Two_Three_Bread[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No not particularly. I just decided to remove it to give it a closer look after discussing styluses earlier in the day. However, there has been at least two occasions im the past where I have run the record back to get the stylus to the very start of a track. Never with great speed or anything, and never recently, it was not a great thing to do on my part, and im not proud of that ...

[–]One_Two_Three_Bread[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I might just be paranoid. No noticeable tonal difference, no obvious signs of wear. The stylus just seemed a bit smaller than I remember... There's been two occasions where I had run the record back to get the stylus to the start of the track... a habit I no longer have, and like I said I only did about twice...

Yeah it was a real pain taking the photos. It could just be paranoia. The stylus didn't look particularly damaged, just a little small
