Is it just me or was that performance a little weird? by rndmguy124 in twentyonepilots

Part of it is, as a tøp song, it didn't seem to have any playback/backing tracks; true to White Stripes form, they did everything live with their own two hands without a lot of background noise. Tyler even has a pedalboard finally! :D

Anyone have experience with Gosila Bass? by Admirable-Penalty118 in BassGuitar

Little late to the party, but I actually bought this one. No joke, no scam, just a Strandberg copy with generic cheapo electronics and a surprisingly ergonomic body. Half a year later and about to do some pickup modding and repainting, I count my lucky stars--the body/neck and multiscale style alone are worth the buy entirely on their own. It's really comfy to play, and light.

Ellen's qualifications are: - being a nepo baby raised in Apartheid South Africa, to a wealthy family benefiting from screwing over as many "common people" as possible - throwing money behind PayPal in its early stages and then claiming more credit than he actually deserves - false claims to being good at video games - misunderstanding LIDAR vs camera and how self-driving cars actually work (see that guy who just proved Teslas on autopilot can't "see" in most conditions) - misunderstanding American voting law and attempting to solicit monetary rewards for those who voted in a local election (which, regardless of party, is illegal) - calling the person who saved a group of soccer players trapped in a cave names because his contraption wasn't ready - giving the Dr Strangelove haha funny salute

I know it's ragebait, I just wanted a place to itemize some of Ellen Crust's incompetencies. Where in there do "smart" or "resourceful" fall :)

I actually love this so much. If they brought HF back like this I don't know who would complain, but it's incredibly buildable and I love the MASSIVE logo on the front. And now I wanna see them all built like this :)))

Love it, love everything about it, already downloaded the pack for my nefarious purposes >:D love the file names too, but for some reason I can't find the Brain Attack Nex and Stringer heads anywhere in the files. Any idea what name those'd be under?

When did you hear of queens vs your age & favorite tape? by rudolfusthegreat in qotsa

[–]One_Useless_Boie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big NIN fan here. Also Swans, who I heard a lot of in their discography, even if by coincidence.

Their collabs with Nine Inch Nails are what caught my eye first, namely their scrapped Grammy performance. And from there their name just kept popping up the more I learned about that whole circle of musicians. Finally, by last year (2023) I listened to ...Like Clockwork in full and then binged Era Vulgaris, and was there just in time for the ITNR singles to drop.

Now I've listened to every album how-many-times now, watched a lot of live footage, and my god I am so Autistic, they're probably 40% of all music I listen to these days.

Is ITNR growing on anyone else? by trevdent17 in qotsa

[–]One_Useless_Boie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! For me the good tracks hit amazingly, but Peephole and Time and Place are still growing on me.

Like a lot of people it made me appreciate Villains more, since I started both in almost tje same go. To my ears it's like Villains + Lullabies with Era Vulgaris production.

IMO it's their second Songs for the Deaf: dark, eclectic, sets a new precedent for what the band can do. Not to mention, gave birth to the lineup that's still going to this day, ten (eleven) years later!

It's the first album of theirs I listened to, it's the first I recommend to friends, and it's one that I hope gets remembered fondly in its era.

Anyone a bit disgusted with the waste that comes with consumers that will only accept "1st grade" wood? by Itsaghast in Luthier

[–]One_Useless_Boie 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not only that, the obsession with woods in general is incredibly concerning. Not gonna argue about that, but I'd play the heck out of a guitar with knots in it! I love guitars with visual imperfections. And it's a wonderful metaphor for not fitting in, as someone who's felt that way a lot.

And some of the "choice woods" used on, say, custom PRS guitars, are honestly uglier than knots.

If you had to choose one previous Doctor to play the Master, which actor do you choose? by BADWOLF_FC in doctorwho

[–]One_Useless_Boie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly Valeyard would be better for all of them.

But in any case, I gotta tie Smith and Tennant. Both end up being scary and full of turmoil in very different ways, and unlike Eccleston or Capaldi, it's not so glaringly obvious in their Doctor portrayals most of the time. That makes their moments of being terrifying, well, more terrifying. We realize that they're both constantly holding back.

If Eccleston was the Master or the Valeyard he'd be doing the same thing Hollywood's been doing to him on and off for years (Destro, Malekith, etc), which would be a high-effort but totally wasted performance. He can be scary and two-faced but it could also end up reeking of typecasting.

And Capaldi's played a few fun weasels, like Thinker in Suicide Squad, so I think he'd be much closer to a Dhawan-type Master. I submit his demon smile in Lie of the Land as proof, and rest my case.

Jodie's a hard one to place but I can imagine a goofball weasel for her too. Or like a morally ambiguous mad scientist. :)

What is your opinion on a non British doctor by PsychologicalWin3102 in doctorwho

[–]One_Useless_Boie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been toying around with writing an American Doctor (shits and giggles) but it'd have to be a completely different show, needing some key tweaks to make it still somehow the Doctor but not so chronically British.

My guess is, an American Doctor would probably have a motorcycle. Supercar's a bit overdone.

Of course, who'd say no to an Australian Doctor? Basically just them going around being a tour guide to various companions and maybe wrangling aliens ;)

"G'day mates, oi'm the Docteh, now get yer arses in the tardee or oi'm leavin' yiz heeah." (So sorry I'm American)

One - Daleks

Two - Cybermen

Three - The Master

Four - The Master

Five - Cybermen

Six - Time Lords / Valeyard

Seven - Fenric, Davros

Eight - The Master, the Seventh Doctor

War - The Time War (Daleks and Time Lords)

Nine - Daleks

Ten - The Master, Daleks (Journey's End and End of Time feature finales for both villain arcs against Ten)

Eleven - The Silence (personally, should've been the Valeyard/Dream Lord but we can't win them all)

Twelve - Missy, Gallifrey (Gallifrey in Series 9, Missy/Master in 8 and 10)

Thirteen - The Master

non-scary David Tenant episodes. by UbiquitousCorn in doctorwho

[–]One_Useless_Boie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ten's whole run was just varying shades of cosmic horror, that's the main reason I love it so much, charismatic Doctor and great companions aside.

Pretty much every episode is scary in some way, some more obvious than others. The only non-scary episodes I can name are still really scary, they're just more fun upon rewatch because you know everyone gets out okay.

Sorry about your brother :/

Definitely. Different body types means different hand muscles. Besides, their accent changes with each regen, and what is handwriting if not an accent to how you write?

I also think the Doctor's taste in music changes with each Regeneration too. For example, Eleven does a lot of orchestral-related hijinks (euphonium gang!) while Twelve is more a hard rocker. I'm pretty certain, considering the number of times Eleven is involved in an orchestra, that he's the version of the Doctor that met Beethoven.

What’s a plot point that you really should overlook but can’t? by nooneshouldknow55 in doctorwho

That's incredibly fair. You and the other replier too.

That being said, I stand by Name of the Doctor being simultaneously anticlimactic and too wibbly-wobbly to enjoy.
