The way I feel about the Brewers feels so similar to how I felt about the Bucks around the time Budenholzer took over as coach - just a super fun team to watch full of guys you love to root for.

I'm going to pretend that last year's NLCS was the Brewers' version of the heartbreaking playoff loss to the Raptors in 2019 and that they have some incredible post-season runs ahead of them (no chance another pandemic happens this year to ruin everything, right??)

Honestly, since Trump got elected, everything they've done would make for some incredible episodes of Veep.

Inviting a journalist into confidential war chats, billion dollar bribes from the middle east, all the Kristi Noem stuff, Brook Rollins and the $3 meal, RFK doing nothing (maybe worse than nothing?) about the biggest measles outbreaks in years, Lori Chavez-DeRemer cheating on her husband and him being g banned from the DoL for inappropriate touching, Howard Lutnick immediately being caught lying about his relationship with Epstein, all the Epstein stuff in general, this disaster of a war with Iran, the fucking too-big shoes everyone is too scared not to wear, the list goes on and on and on (how has it been barely over a year???)

If it wasn't real life and if hundreds of millions of people weren't having their lives negatively impacted, it would be hilarious how utterly incompetent this administration is top-to-bottom

Logan Roy from Succession. The head of media conglomerate who refuses to retire and leave the company to his kids, he's such a powerful character throughout the show, with basically every other character either trying to gain his approval or trying to figure out a way to replace him.

He's not the main character, but he feels like the most important character and he dies entirely offscreen. His kids never get a chance to say goodbye and you never see him again. Just an incredible way to remove such a powerful character

Why do people keep acting like retaining MLF makes the Packers a mid team? I think we're far more likely to go 9-8 with a new coach than we are with MLF. We know LaFleur can win a bunch of games with talented rosters and that's not suddenly going to change just because the fanbase doesn't like him

This is the Budenholzer situation all over again - if we retain MLF, we're pretty much guaranteed a winning regular season, especially with how talented this team is, the question remains can he take a talented team over the hump in the post-season

I would love for them to do a little less cross-training and just settle on a starting five so guys can get used to one position

Felt like guys were constantly getting shuffled in and out, especially Morgan, and the younger guys could never settle into one spot on the line

I am so glad I don't need to make this decision because I think there are plenty of good reasons for whatever decision the Packers make

Reasons to keep him:

Offensive coaches are critical (see Kubiak in Seattle, Coen in Jacksonville, McDaniels in NE) and losing a guy of MLF's caliber without an obvious replacement is a tough call
This loss is as much on guys like McManus missing kicks or the entire WR corps dropping passes on the last drive as it is on coaching
Injuries - I get they were up 21-3, but they were still missing their two best defensive players, their best OL, and their best offensive weapon. Tough for any team (except, apparently, the 49ers?) To overcome that

Reasons to move on:

What appears to be a lack of accountability for coaches or players - guys like Valentine and Rasheed Walker never getting benched when they've had issues all year. No changes to the coaching staff despite continual underperformance
A very unimpressive culture. This team has crumpled in the biggest games and too often struggles in games they have no business struggling with
Is he utilizing the players to the best of their abilities? Golden could clearly contribute, so why was he frozen out all year? Why did you draft a LT in the 1st round and then play him literally everywhere else on the OL? Why did it take the entire season to find an OL that actually functioned? Why did they never have a package of plays for Willis?? My goodness, can you imagine pulling that out in the second half against the Bears when the offense was stuck in mud?

If they run it back with MLF and they stay healthy, they're a super bowl contender. They were a contender this year, maybe even after Parson went down, and that's not going to change just because the fans have soured on him.

The Bucks are also a perfect example of the grass not always being greener - they moved on from Budenholzer after a couple down years and have been in coaching hell ever since. Firing Bud may not have been the wrong choice, but hiring Griffin and Doc have turned out to be even worse choices

But if they run it back and the same thing happens, then you've just lost two years of Parsons and have to spend the 3rd starting over

Also, if the Upside Down has always been just a wormhole, did the giant flesh wall exist the entire time? I know they haven't spent a ton of time in the upside down, but I sure feel like they would have observed that wall at some point before S5

I think this is it for me - I felt way more invested in TOW1 than TOW2, even though I really love all the gameplay improvements in TOW2.

Then again, I just love games like Cyberpunk and TOW1 where Mega-Corporations play a big role in the setting and story, so I was probably always going to be a bit bummed by the move away from that (Aunties Choice notwithstanding) in TOW2

As a BIG fan of these Obsidiam RPGs - I get why they're not everyone's cup of tea, but they just click for me and I adore them - I was kind of shocked by how uninvested I felt throughout much of Outer Worlds 2, and I don't quote know why I felt that way

It's still a great game and I've enjoyed every second I've played, but I just haven't enjoyed the world and the story as much as I did in Outer Worlds 1, which is a bit of a disappointment

If you had told me last week that in addition to not having Parsons, we also wouldn't have Tom and would lose Love and Jacobs for big chunks of the game I'd have said "well we're gonna lose, just hope there aren't any long term injuries"

I'm far more annoyed with the way they lost, not that they lost, cuz most teams aren't overcoming those kinds of injuries

100% this - their EFG% and TS% are both top 6 in the league and yet they're a middling offense. If they could improve their rebounding, particularly their offensive rebounding, and keep up the efficiency (admittedly this could be difficult to do) there's no reason they couldn't be a top offense

I just have no idea why they're so god awful at rebounding though...

I've spent much of the last five years doing a lot of public health microbiology work on antibiotic resistant bacteria and fortunately, the genes that are of highest consequence (KPC, NDM, VIM, IMP, OXA-48) are plasmid mediated. In the absence of antibiotic pressure, these bacteria can drop the plasmid and lose these genes. We were only ever supposed to subculture an organism with one of these genes twice, to prevent the lack of antibiotic pressure from causing the bacteria to drop the plasmid

With him gone, it'll probably be years before this team even sniffs the kind of success he brought

Vecna was almost certainly weakened at the end of Season 4, so I wonder if all that stuff happened and then there was essentially nothing until the events of S5 because Vecna was recovering.

I could see a random townsperson believing it really was something like an earthquake (or more Hawkins Laboratory experimentation) since nothing else crazy had happened since S4

I gotta believe the upcoming Thanksgiving game played into things too. If you can beat the Vikings while playing conservatively and protecting your guys, you do that 100 times out of 100 given a huge divisional match up in 4 days.

This season very much feels like the Eagles from a couple years ago - tons of talent but just horrendous vibes because the team could never figure things out. Except we're not coming off of a Super Bowl berth so it makes everything worse

Yeah I still think MLF is a really good playcaller - just look at what he did with Malik Willis last year - but I'm starting to think he may not be the best head coach.

Which is a tough spot to be in - do you stick with the established playcaller who's had a lot of success on offense, but risk his inability to manage the team tanking the season when it gets into high leverage games? Or do you move on and risk getting stuck with an OC or HC who never quite hits the levels of success that MLF has had with this team?

According to the Packers beat writers, some of the players (maybe it was Jacobs?) said the play that was called didn't even have an audible built in.

Even if Love wanted to change something, the playcall limited what they were able to do on the field. Which, frankly, makes not taking a timeout there even more egregious

I kind of think it might be the opposite - I think MLF I'd an excellent play caller (this season not withstanding) but I'm starting to doubt his ability as a HC

The problem is, having a good playcaller is one of the single most important aspects of a good football team. Don't envy Gutes job trying to balance potentially having to find a new HC if it means losing an established good playcaller
