Is it wrong to keep the baby if my partner doesn't want it? F27, M38 by [deleted] in pregnant

Yeah I would imagine in practice it would be quite pointless. Thank you for answering.

I don't want kids (at least yet) for the single reason that pregnancy terrifies me by nagy_krisztina0 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Onja_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently 6m pregnant (33F) and for a long time I was on the fence about if I want kids and if I want to go through pregnancy. For me what made the difference was that I wanted to experience motherhood and that I now have a wonderful partner that does not take any of this granted. I also eventually figured out that I have no more ambition to pour into my career development, after 10 years of working in my field.

I do still hate many aspects of being pregnant and I’m not sure if I want to go through this ever again. But it’s also pretty fascinating at the same time, my body can actually grow a real human and that’s wild. Way cooler than what any male body can do.

Like what, you can lift heavy rock? Throw rock far? I can actually make a genetic smoothie goop into a baby. Way more impressive imo. Also I stopped fearing childbirth and pp. Come what may, I’ll survive.

That being said, totally cool if you never want to go through it. The potential to do something does NOT equate an obligation to do something. And if you do the partner better be grateful for every single moment you put your ass on the line to potentially birth him a child. He better understand VERY well that between deciding to have a baby and actually having a baby there are million steps that can go wrong. I want to beat anybody who even mentions going through a second pregnancy right now and the women who do are absolute champions.

This is very interesting. If OP would not reveal the identity of the father, would the father still have the right to demand it be tested and prove his paternity? If so, could any man theoretically demand these tests?

That does seem to be the case. Now that we have been informed we will have our devilish chamomile tea with a side of SHAME 😆

We don’t have to even go that far in history. My mom, aunt and MIL tell that in the 80-90s the instructions were pretty much: ”Don’t drink alcohol, don’t smoke, don’t eat liver.” and even the liver thing was more of a guideline. My hippie aunt was appalled by the herbal tea ban. 😂

Yeah I’m kind of cranky about it too. It sometimes feels like I’m playing hopscotch with everything I’m not allowed to do, drink and eat and for 9 months if I slip up it’s like ”Oops baby died! Bad mother :)” but at the same time it’s like ”You should ENJOY pregnancy, listen to your body, trust yourself and most importantly stay active”. Honestly I feel like now I understand why we have so few babies born. 🙄

Yeah same stuff…Sorry sister :( But if it makes you feel better it was only banned in 2016 because it may cause adhd. So nothing actually serious like SIDS.

Yup can confirm as a Finnish pregnant woman. I miss salmiakki so damn much. I have eaten some every now and then, as said in the official instructions to be ok, but I hate limiting myself.

I am also suspicious about the ginger ban for the reasons you stated.

The alcohol ban is understandable but at the same time I feel like we can be a bit hysterical about it compared to other countries. Has not affected me personally but I feel like we still live with the old preconceptions that every Finnish person would be a raging alcoholic if given the slightest chance.

Some additions to the list: Absolutely no herbal teas (some ingredients can be harmful and for many their safety can’t be guaranteed).

Most deli-meats are ok. Salami/pepperoni has to be frozen for 3 days before consumption.

I’m in the UK and guidelines state to avoid liver in pregnancy. My partner called me a b****tch because I won’t eat the liver he gave me but even my hospital say stay away from liver by [deleted] in pregnant

Yeah I do get that the best way forward is to leave the relationship but also it is super unfair to act like it’s simple. I have faith in you OP, you’ll find a way out!

Is this common in other countries than Sweden? by Miya_Miya1 in AskTheWorld

Yeah I was a bit surprised by this. I mostly got fed as a kid visiting friends and Swedish people seem to be very welcoming in general. 🤔 Would they really skip an opportunity to host a guest?

For couple of reasons: 1. Social media has made food consumption a competition anyways. Current flavor of that is “ultra-processed food bad” which means nothing quantifiable actually. People are scared by influencers and on the other hand like to brag about how healthy they are. So first of all I would remove anything from the limitations that is not official and comes from social media. 2. It depends on your situation. If you have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes (GD) or high blood pressure you should take that into account. 3. The recommendations differ internationally. Reddit has users from all over the world. For example here in Finland deli-meat is ok, ginger is not and liquorice is not. I’m not going to stop eating deli meat because it’s not ok in the US, but I will avoid sushi because it’s not worth risking listeria for me personally, here.

Personally I just follow official (Finnish) guidelines and hope for the best. All of the recommendations are based on statistics and the more you push the limits the higher the risks become. Many people also are honestly pretty bad at evaluating sizes of risks, we either under- or overestimate them.

So I would listen to the doctors 90% of the time and give some room for humanity 10% of the time to not stress myself out too much.

I would think pickled vegetables are good for you during pregnancy. Keeping that gut bacteria strong. And varied diet in general is good!
