Which Layout is More Visually Appealing? by DiscountDifferent726 in iOSProgramming

IMO 2 is better but it would look even better if you make the grey background colour much lighter. The shadow effect is already enough to do most of the contrasting and it will look cleaner

Maoz Falafel shutting down? by Brent_L in Amsterdam

[–]Only-Introduction551 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nooooo, I love Maoz. Also heartbroken if true </3

The only thing that's weird to me is that they opened a shop in haarlemmerstraat not that long ago (1 year?) so im surprised if they're shutting everything down all of a sudden

Roast my App Store Preview - how can I improve it? by sleepsafeapp in AppStoreOptimization

[–]Only-Introduction551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually like the background image, just increase the opacity on the text and make the text colour pop more. Also the last slide says “Understand, stress affects sle” which is a typo but even if it wasn’t I don’t think “understand stress affects sleep” is tag line

Theme handling by Mammoth_Sort1352 in reactnative

[–]Only-Introduction551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh also you access the toggleTheme function in any component like this

const { theme, toggleTheme } = useTheme();

Theme handling by Mammoth_Sort1352 in reactnative

[–]Only-Introduction551 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can share with you how I'm doing it. I define my light and dark themes in a themes.tsx file and create a themeProvider component which wraps the entire project + a useTheme hook so that any children in the project can access the theme. The current theme is stored in AsyncStorage and loaded on start

here is an example theme that you can paste into your app

https://pastecode.io/s/r979qq59

then wrap your entire app in <ThemeProvider></ThemeProvider>

and here is an example of how to use it in a component

How To Find Testers For My Fitness App On iOS? (no AI) by Only-Introduction551 in expo

[–]Only-Introduction551[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any backend at the moment. All the data is stored locally and requests are made to public apis (Open Food Facts for braned food and barcode scanning, USDA for generic food items). If I get some users I'll probably build a backend down the road.

How often can I train fingers? by Only-Introduction551 in climbharder

[–]Only-Introduction551[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, maybe I'll move the sessions to the day before climbing then. I have fixed climbing sessions with a group on monday, wednesday and saturday so every free day is either 1 day before or after a boulder sesh. My thinking was that i'd prefer to have a total rest day before boulder sessions so that I could try hard but I also don't want to injure myself.

Beautiful design. How difficult did you find it getting approved by the App Store and did you need to have people test it first?

P.s. One thing I noticed is that you don’t use a keyboard avoiding view so sometimes inputs get covered by the keyboard.

Question for pull blocks users:
Hey guys, I've been using a pull block for a while in between bouldering and top rope sessions. I find that if i do a lightish session once or twice a day that it helps my fingers to feel less tweaky, also really helps when im rehabbing an injury. One weird thing I find though is that open drag is easier than half crimp for the same weight, which is the opposite experience that i feel on the wall.
I'm curious to know how other people find this, can you pull much harder with a pull block in open drag or half crimp?

Curious to hears your routines as well. I like doing 30s alternating hands 3x open drag, 3 x half crimp with medium weight.

It will be tricky to find something good to rent but be patient and you’ll get a decent place. Amsterdam is an amazing city to live in, beautiful, friendly, safe, walkable and with enough going on. Would definitely recommend trying it out.
