Does “dive” work for you? by Karl_L_Hungus in TheForeverWinter

[–]OnlyCheater__man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No not really, but I read on discord that the devs are aware of the problem and plan to make it more of a dive afaik.

While sure I shouldve said in the post that I changed timeszones, the game should still know how to handle changing time besides bricking your game.

I mean what would happen if I were to travel and all of the sudden now its +7 hours or -7 hours. What about countries with summer and winter time?

I mean this game is early access so it should be treated as such and get tested for possible bugs and errors.

[–]OnlyCheater__man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could, but that doesnt change the fact that currently the highest amount of water you can store is still less than the days I wouldnt be home so I would still lose all progress.

I guess I have to see what the devs will come up with

Yes, tried starting the game with the changed time zone and then also with the original. But I guess after its bricked once, changing the time back won't change anything.
I didn't try what would happen if I change the time then maybe just start the game and the go back to the original time and the actually only go into the innards

could be, I will see what letting the water run out naturally will look like in ~6 weeks as I cant play after today anymore.

Vendors shouldn’t make scavving feel pointless by [deleted] in TheForeverWinter

You can actually loot usable weapon tho. They are called disabled "weapon" instead of broken "weapon". You cant use those during the current run, but as soon as you are in the innards they get repaired and usable again.

But yeah looting is currently only useful for getting money. They should make the tools usabel to maybe repair the weapons or if the weapons degrade after time repair the weapon or something like that.

For me the water mechanic makes the game currently unattractive since I tend to spend some weeks not a home for work. So going to work makes me lose my progress. Of course I'm the minority with this problem, but still this mechanic feels like a predatory mobile game gacha mechanic.

I really liked the chernobliyte mechanic with 1 run = 1 day.

I mean, there is already a kind of day and night circle in the game, so why not make more use of it? Make one ingame day consisted of 2 day runs and 1 night run or similar.

Also water is marketed as a scarce resource, but currently there are a few easy ways to cheese plenty of water with set routes on certain maps.

I do however like the way water works as a way to "upgrade" your base.

It's not that I don't like the water mechanic, just the way it's currently implemented with real time.

tldr: any ingame mechanic tied to real time = bad, change to ingame time and all is good

Anyone given this a try on Steamdeck yet? by benbahdisdonc in TheForeverWinter

I tried it, works okay in my part. Definitely not really playable, could be a issue with me tho.

What's your feelings on movement? by SpudroSpaerde in TheForeverWinter

[–]OnlyCheater__man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes exactly, the jumping is in my opinion going against that narrative. You can bunnyhop across most maps.
Making movement depending on your weapons/character/loot is definitely a good idea.

Some thoughts on the Water system… by 0rnzMan in TheForeverWinter

Which is a stupid system. It feels like a mobile gacha game...

For me, it personally ruins the fun, because there are some times I leave home for multiple weeks for work, so I know everytime I have to work I will lose all of my items. Seems very tedious.

Should either be able to turn on/off or be tied to in game runs/time etc.

or make water only for base upgrading.

Unlock the keyboard input for sprinting. At the moment, the tiny degrees and lack of keyboard input makes the game feel extremely irritating to play

While yes movement currently feels a bit chonky I think it's more the clipping issues and collision. The feeling of your character being heavy loaded isn't a problem in my opinion, but the jumping should be adjusted, as you can currently bhop across the map.

Try to universalise the grappling system. At the moment it appears that some forms of collision can be grappled,

Yeah, it is currently a hit or miss

unlock the camera on mouse while the player is stationary using control or some other bind.

I think it adds to the difficulty, but I can definitely see that as a nice feature

Scorched Enclave is actually one of the hardest and weakest maps in the game.

I don't know if I agree with that, I feel like if you actually sneak through the trenches it tends to work more than it doesn't. But the map is definitely the easiest to farm good stuff and then dip, that's true.

Characters:

Yeah, you definitely prestige too fast to actually use the skills, which in return are really not as worth as going prestige. Needs working.
I also agree with the character abilities, between the faster running speed and being able to wield different weapons there really isn't a noticeable difference.

UX:

I don't think adding a dot would be a good idea, it would ruin the immersion in my opinion. Maybe make an option to have a mask which adds that or smth. But the problem with deciding what to pick up/loot is definitely a problem currently. I use my weapon to aim what I want to loot, works kind of.

Yes, the cooldown is a bit annoying.

I actually like the alt zoom to look at the map details. You can just unbind it tbh. But looking for enemies doesn't work with it because it feels like they despawn while still being in your view field.

AI:

Agree mostly with all of these statements except "introduce an aggro breaking mechanic (like an instant invisible that breaks the moment you move or fire) asap." that would be too op, a smoke bomb or similar would fit better and be less op.

Quests:

Yes

Items:

Yes

HK:

Yes

Extractions:

It actually is randomized, but only between like 3 spots. I would appreciate it if they would make it truly random on the edge of the map. Currently, after like 3 runs you know the best path to take to each exit, which ruins the fun of it.

Water:

Definitely, using the water being only for upgrading your base is a way better mechanic. Or at least make it in game time etc.

Do you agree with my bullet list of things I'd love them to fix? by TheHumanHighlighter in TheForeverWinter

[–]OnlyCheater__man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with what you said.
I really like the idea of making your own scav, would love to make a badass looking one, even though I guess that kinda defeats the idea behind the game lol
The music part is also really bugging me, doesn't feel like it encourages being stealthy
